    The last two times I’ve been to Glasgow I went by train, it’s nice looking out the window at the scenery, plus it reminds me of my childhood visits to Dumbarton on a steam train, main years ago, I missed the train once I started driving there.

    The flight option would have taken somewhat longer if you had hold baggage, like a large suitcase, but would have made no difference to your train journey duration. Comparing costs I would probably opt for the train.

    This was a brilliant idea. I go to London for theatre and flew down for years until BA priced themselves skyward. I then started using the train and realised the difference is usually under an hour. Don’t forget, also, that if a train is over an hour late, you get a fare refund.
    The train is always cheaper and less stressful as well.
    Again, well done.

    Fascinating via easyJet here in Inverness it's a no brainer the plane is way faster than the train and way cheaper as well. 4hrs from my house near the airport to the centre of London via Gatwick and the Gatwick-London Bridge train.

    You are a star! I love watching your videos. First I saw those from my country - Poland and now from the UK that I visited in July this year and absolutely loved it. It was a 12-day tour by coach (directly from Poland, to the Channel border, and by ferry to Dover). I saw a few places in England, Scotland and Wales. The little towns and big cities. I odored the terraced houses (old and new style) and the bay windows, lots of flowers, river boats houses, cliffs, greenery, fish and chips, different accents, students in school uniforms, and ... the clouds which are completely different from the ones I have here. And the palm trees! Your country has it all.✈Next time I'll go on my own and concentrate on the coastline from North Cornwall to Seven Sisters cliffs.

    What a fascinating concept Scott, having a race against yourself on different modes of transport between two predetermined start
    and finish points. That train cancellation at the start was a bummer. But, hey, it could have been a plane cancellation that happened.
    I'd like to see more events like this. I agree with your wrap that the train journey being cheaper, and scenically more interesting, was
    the winner over all, despite getting the silver medal this time.

    • @davidspear9790
      @davidspear9790 2 роки тому

      Indeed. Planes don't offer such a frequent service as trains. The next flight may have been 2 hours plus later. Also, maybe he should have picked the fastest train from Glasgow to Euston which takes about 4 1/2 hours, to level the playing field a bit. May have cost more, but it was a speed challenge, not a value for money challenge.

    • @GabrielsReviews
      @GabrielsReviews 3 місяці тому

      @@davidspear9790 I think Planes Trains Everything picked the one closest to the flight departure time. There are usually a few even slower trains via Coventry . These are slower than the usual Trent Valley line services as they have standing time at BHM

    I travel to London several times a year, usually by train. The best way to beat the plane is to use the sleeper from Glasgow to Euston. New rolling stock has just been introduced and it's brilliant. I paid £150 for a single cabin with ensuite shower/toilet. Price includes breakfast either in cabin or lounge. A cheaper option is a reclining seat with lockable storage for £45. Well worth a try

    I've only just got around to properly watch this. One thing that struck me though is that many people will be doing this journey with luggage. You seem not to have taken into account that, in these cases , the air passenger would have the disadvantage of waiting around for the plane to be unloaded. Not sure how long that takes at Heathrow, but I've waited an hour at Manchester.

      I looked at the possibility of doing both on the one day, but it just wasn't possible (I was paranoid about delays etc.), so the flight portion was done first. If it hadn't been for the one hour Virgin trains delay, and the BA flight arriving 15 minutes early, it would have been very close indeed. I mentioned this to a Virgin trains sales manager, and she was pleased someone had actually proven the viability of rail over air.

      I dislike flying anyway, not to mention the airport fart-around when you just want to get going. Have to turn up hours early, join some epic queue to get felt up by some rude twat in a cheap suit and generally treated like a criminal, told what I can and cannot bring, then sit in an overpriced shopping mall until you're told the flight is cancelled or delayed because why not.
      Train is more civilised by a long shot. Haven't been on a plane since February 2014 and would be perfectly happy to never do so again.

    OK. How much did the train cost vs plane! Plane is easily far cheaper, never mind you didn't try Easyjet/ Ryanair and when can you rely on the train not being on strike/engineering works, cancelled at Christmas. cancelled at New Year, cancelled at Easter, cancelled at bank holidays, leaves/trees on line, wrong kind of snow, or hooligans/smelly/annoying folk on train? Train is ok if you are guaranteed a seat and genuinely timing city centre to city centre (how many are doing that) and your boss picks up the tab.
