The entire video is inspired by The Garden of Earthly Delights by Heironymous Bosch. It's literally been taken and made into 3D sets. The birds, the "contraption" etc are all there. Plus all the other references you spotted. 🙂

I live in Europe and here Bach's Air is also used very often for funerals. So it took a little getting used to the first time I heard it. It's a beautiful video with all the references to the great art and the beautiful Red Velvet. And liked your reaction a lot!
In Italy, on the other hand, it has been used since 1995 as the theme song for Superquark, the most loved cultural TV program ever. It is really interesting how the use they make of music changes the perception of it...

The 'cracked egg' and strange animal scene strongly reminded me of Hieronymus Bosch.

I believe that the "classical" (or neoclassical) European setting is more important than the era. Apart from your references to paintings, which I fully agree with, I also find many references to literature (and films), such as The Secret Garden, the Blue Bird, Jane Austen's novels or the classics of the late nineteenth century... Every scene reminds me something, but sometimes I can't define what...
Fun fact: I came to know Red Velvet because IU's menager is an hardcore fan of them 😝 IU really pushed me hard into the Kpop world 😂
I have just learnt that I missed a MAJOR painting (and I feel like a fool) that thing at the end, and whole swathes of other stuff, like the owl and strawberries, are from Bosch’s “The Garden of Earthly Delights” *face palm* I could see it all and couldn’t bring to mind what I was missing - dang it!
Totally understand what you mean, so much is familiar, but just off enough to not make it completely obvious. I found lots of it to be a mash up of two paintings, or scenes with which we’re familiar, as well - like Ophelia in the beginning, the other two girls are water nymphs from a totally different painting. They’re messing with our heads on this one!
Also, I, too, have come to RV because of IU - well, because of Uaenas. I’ve listened to a lot of their stuff, but not really watched anything, but everyone was so enthusiastic about them, I though I better get on this comeback! 😄

Torsie, I'm sorry that you weren't able to enjoy Feel My Rhythm due to the sampling of Bach and your grandparents😭, but perhaps Feel My Rhythm may not be the best introduction into Red Velvet (both due to the uniqueness of the song itself & your own personal reasons T-T), but there are definitely other gems in their discography for you to discover, like Bad Boy or Psycho, which I feel you might like much more than Feel My Rhythm! Or even Peek A Boo! Red Velvet technically has two sides as their concept--Red side which is the poppier, the more unique side with tracks like Power Up, Dumb Dumb,, Russian Roulette etc. and their Velvet which is darker, jazzier, and a sultry--Psycho, Bad Boy, Peek A Boo! A little gander into their other discographies might make you enjoy them a little more too!
They're B-sides are also incredibly known to be very very very good as well! I personally recommend In My Dreams in this album as a beautiful song to give a listen to in your own time!
PS: Perhaps the crown is also familiar to you since its the same one that Taemin wore as well 🤭
Umm she has listened to redvelvet before we watched smcu with her and there she said she has watched rv before just haven't reacted to it.
The song has themes about time traveling so maybe that’s why there’s art from different periods referenced

Red Velvet to me means expect the unexpected, right when you think you have them figured out, they'll just come ip with something so... Them. I don't even know how to explain it. That's what they do, that is who they are, and I love them for it. This whole album was not at all what I expected, and I love it even more for it. On a side note, the song and the concept of it as SM very cryptically explained is about time travel, so maybe that explains all the different periods and the combination of modern and classic, I read somewhere that supposedly they travelled to the time Kwangya was made, so I was just... 🤯 The entire time.

AHHHHH OH MY GOODNESS YES YES!!! I am freaking out and shaking while commenting this, they went OFF during this Music Video it has to be one of my favorites already because WOW and the Visuals HOLY COW they have to be one of my favorites as well because everyone looks so Gorgeous legit this is everyone's era! Irene oh my Goodness looks so Stunning she is a freaking Goddess I kept pausing on her moments on screen because she was so Gorgeous and her Vocals/Rap is insane. Seulgi can STEP ON ME what the heck she looked like an evil goddess and I am here for it, her Vocals were crazy, and the way she ate that strawberry was not okay. Wendy is Bias wrecking me and I don't even have a Bias her Visuals and charisma is CRAZY, and her Vocals went OFF like during the bridge that was one of most beautiful notes I've heard. Joy is a legit Disney Princess (and I am right in the MV she is pricking her finger like Aurora) I keep saying it but it is so true the smile that she kept giving was adorable, and her Vocals oh my Goodness and her little English moments/Red Velvet moment Wow. And Yeri has been killing me as well her Rap has gotten even more INSANE her Vocals are so Gorgeous and sweet like cotton candy, and her Visuals are just STUNNING holy cow!! Again they went off on this one and the chorus is so beautiful and catchy, just everything was AMAZING! Anyways I can't wait for you to react to more Red Velvet such as more Music Videos, B - Sides, Live Performances, Covers, Dance Practices, Moments, and of course Ships! I can't wait for more Content from you and I hope that you are doing well and staying safe and healthy!

Also the hole concept including styles , sets reminde me of The Garden of Earthly Delights Hieronymus Bosch, it is an absolutely fascinating painting which has three panel , one of them is named hellscape which represents seulgi's dark style and weird animals and birds, also alot of those globes forms and the last shot are in this painting

Did you know that the black crown was originally custom made for Taemin? He used it in one of his photo shoots for his last come back Never Gonna Dance Again Act 2 albums I believe. She said (Seulgi) it was like she felt his energy.

Oh my gosh, I love love love that you had the pictures of the original artwork that was referenced in Red Velvet's amazing music video. It made it truly touching that the music they sampled reminding you of two very important ppl to you. Loved your detailed reaction to RV. I love Red Velvet myself but I did not love this song. Creative, Yes, The MV itself was beautiful but, the song did not meet the level of brilliance the MV reached. I found the whole song kind of generic in tune. the underlying piece of classical music was brilliant but as a whole I did not find it appealing. In other words, the visuals were brilliant but the song as a whole was underwhelming.
