looks like the squirrel was sitting on the wooden pole and ceramic insulator (you know those grey ribbed thingies connecting wires to the poles). also, as long as the squirrel is only touching the wire itself and no ground (or ground contact object), or not chew the wire, it's gonna be fine.
Did you know if a bird setting on a power line pecks at a tree limb, his legs and feet will get blown off. I've seen a lot of feet and legs still stuck to the lines. I was in line clearance (cutting trees away from power lines) for 23 years.
The very first line on any power line is the phone line, none electrical at all. So I knew he was safe. Main electrical box and electricity is always at the very top with 24 karat liquid gold to act as a conductor.
Telco or Catv, 6.6m strandvise and copper bond, that's what the squirrel is sitting on, power lines are higher on the pole, at least 48 inches above the highest communication cable on the pole, the 3 above the one the squirrel is sitting on are telco and / or catv too.
He couldn't get shocked, hes only on one leg of the system, same as a bird. Also the sound is a reaction to the cammer. Its alerting the other wildlife to a potential threat. This is usually the one that gets shot and eaten.
There are power lines, cable lines, and phone lines running off the "telephone poles" running behind my house. Seen a couple of squirrels get fried. It was NOT quiet. Also, the squirrels were obviously fried and they always fell to the ground.
That's called a common neutral. Everything above it is communication cable. Literally none of this is carrying high voltage right now and if that common was carrying energy it's already attached to ground. It's not going to burn this guy up.
Lol that’s not even a common neutral, that’s below the communications. That’s a guy wire or steel to either run communications across or backup a pole, absolutely no voltage in normal conditions. Can become energized if a live secondary leg or primary phase comes down and just lays on it, but those steels are supposed to be all grounder to either the system neutral which must be above communications and at least 26 feet from the ground or a driven ground which is a rod that goes deep into the ground.
I seen a squirrel get hit by lightening during a really bad storm. That sucker shot up in the sky like twenty feet. Then came down on all fours and ran fast to tell his folks about it. What happened- It was raining and wind like 40+, Lighting all over the place. Squirrel decided to jump out of a big tree on the road. He started running down the center of the street in a zigzag. People wonder how he could live. He was wet, The road was wet. And it was raining. So lightning went right around him. Was really cool the blue hue from the lightening hitting the road. The spread was about twenty feet across. We had tornados in that storm.
That’s what every squirrel sounds like. No high voltage here. We can’t even see above the communication lines. The squirrel is sitting on a spanguy or messenger line for comms.
For anyone wondering and want actual knowledge, this is telecommunications. The squirrel is laying on an older styled preform called an "automatic" hooked up to the eyenut thats on the bolt in the pole.
