The flute theme you hear at the beginning comes from Schubert's "Ständchen" (serenade)
As you guessed correctly, classical music is a part of the character's (Ebenholz') background
An Arknights theme I'd love to see you discuss is "Stainless Heart", as I think you'd especially enjoy the percussion used in it.

What if I told you that the whole mash up with rock has a character implication? So yeah, shame that you don't know who Franz von Urtica is.
What the problem is
Its indeed a song that grows in you after you play the event story with his tragic story. There is a lot to hear from arknights and i end forgeting about them xD but maybe you could hear Awaken, Revealing, Thorns in You, Stainless Heart as someone said. Its a bit hard to pick because i feel they are more focused in the vocals rather than the instrument but aside of that all arknights songs are really great when you listen to them as a whole.
For Arknights stuff I think you would like, I would suggest Winter Absolution or Requiem.
I feel that when you leave a room for each instrument and let the other fill in the background aka don’t cram the sound in every frequency in at the same time, it create such a clarity and make music really shine.
I would recommend lullaby,Martyr,Lone trail loby theme and both the boss theme and stage theme for Hortus de Escapismo event
Arknights! Standchen is amazing, it's from one of my favorite events from the game.
Would definitely love to see more Arknights in the future. There are just so many good songs.
the entire country that this character is bring from is a Music-Magic focus German, there lot of reference toward classical music and musician.
their previous king "the Witch King" can use song to cause mass horrifying effect on massive battlefield.
The tone will forever be empty without the warming, radiant cello.

Ständchen was composed in 1826.
So basically, what you liked was the classical composition, and didn't like how they fused it with the more modern style later on.

I love how the vocalist just instantly reminded me of Kamelot's early days the first time I heard this.
the first couple of bars of this song are literally just Schuberts Ständchen. They even share the name :)
Sometimes I wonder how anime shows and games have better music than movies. Even music not associated with games, tv shows and movies. It's amazing how many great compositions wouldn't be known otherwise.
I don’t know literally anything about arknights but I do know Mili and that she did a song for arknights very recently, the song is heartbreaking and even though you arent a lyrics guy this song is emotional enough i believe it warrants a look.

The non classical part is plot relevant. The protagonist uses the drum to piss off the sounds in his mind

The mid section has influences from Phantom of the Opera, which is where the midi/guitar/percussion is coming from. Arknights compositions are in general known to combine genres, however.

Other commenters have said as much already, but there's such a variety in Arknights music that you could fall in love with like half the soundtrack. My personal favorite track is And Yet it Wanes, and I think you'd have a lot of fun with that one

I agree with not being fan of the drums. But dang is this a moody song and beginning is amazing to listen to. Not to mention that the singer performs good. One of my favourites from Arknights. Another what I can recommend from Arknights (if you like moody songs and russian singing) is Прощание, Hellagur's theme and Requiem.
