We have had our four SafeRacks for many many years. It’s a US. Veteran Owned company and we have had no issues. Plus, we live in earthquake country! SafeRacks is a long time company with a solid reputation, people and it’s well engineered. The Fleximounts product is straight from China…liability and customer support stop at the boarder.

I’ve said it before. SafeRacks is a great brand. I just think Fleximount is better. I’ve always gotten great support from them. So, I don’t think it stops at the border. I’ve needed support more from SafeRacks than Fleximount - but only when clients order through Costco. Every time support gives a canned answer, but their fulfillment team always delivers better than what customer service will promise, so I really appreciate that part of the SafeRacks team. I just wish fulfillment with Costco purchasing would be more consistently accurate.

At the :37 second mark, you state that the horizontal beam is not secured properly to the vertical post with hardware/bolts. First of all, I can see you didn't seat the two rivets on the horizontal beam into the holes on the vertical post. If you read the assembly instructions, it says you should USE A RUBBER MALLET to seat these rivets into their corresponding holes. In another statement, it says to assemble TWO provided screws per corner into the hole above the rivet to LOCK the beam/rivet into place. You must have had extra screws when you were finished, so weren't you curious as to where they came from? It's a good idea to check your hardware count against the assembly/contents sheet before assembly.

I use a rubber mallet every time. Sometimes it takes 100% power hits to wedge in and get loaded. Sometimes it just never seats all the way even after pounding away for a very long time. Sometimes they seat all the way with no problem. The two screws per corners does not work if they don’t seat all the way. Which in my experience is about half the time. The other half the time there is still a gap big enough to allow it to disengage all the way under the right circumstances. In an ideal situation , all the would work great, and it still would not be as well made as Fleximount. Do you work for SafeRacks?

@oGsluXon this is an unbiased review. Like many installation providers, I have dealer pricing agreements with many suppliers for a variety of garage organization products. My agreements are the same as everyone else gets.
My bias comes from experience, not sponsorship, compensation, or any form of agreement. I have installed thousands of overhead racks from 4 different brands. Mostly Fleximount and SafeRacks. In fact, I make more money installing SafeRacks than I do Fleximount. If anything, my pocket book says to promote SafeRacks.
Fleximount is my favorite for a few reasons. Easier to install for the DIYer, better engineered product, never have a problem with order accuracy (compared to about 20% inaccurate for SafeRacks customers who order directly from Costco, fulfilled by SafeRacks), and lastly - I think the overall strength, durability, and stability is just better.
Again, my bias is from experience, that is it. Making it 100% completely unbiased.

ProRack deals with the loose grates by using pins that screw into each side, holding them on tight.

How many inches do they hang down?

Good call to attention, I agree these are dangerous for a multitude of reasons. Last year they recalled 13000 of them due to bad hardware. I just had a bolt head sheer off on me and the entire rack fell injuring me but luckily not killing me or any nearby small children.
If I were to ever use them again I would only do so with additional thick chain and more additional mounting points for security and your own high quality bolts. Their design is questionable for how large the platform is. I had less than their max weight of 600 lbs when it fell.

Whoa! Did you end up reinforcing yours somehow? I am about to install mine, and thinking about adding a 2x4 to use as a header below the shelves for them to sit on. And in the front, adding some threaded rod.

I hired a local company and they’re installed their own rack and hardware which was higher rated and stronger and they mounted into the side wall as well as the ceiling which made the install much stronger. If I had installed that way with the original Costco hardware then it might’ve lasted, but hard to say.
