Just for reference for later, Garp is one of 2 people that Gold Roger considered his rivals. Him clapping Luffy here was with 18 restraints on. Even 1100 episodes in, and as a man well past his prime, Garp is hands down one of the most Freakishly strong characters in the entire series.
No Spoiler, just teasing notes: - Yes, Garp and Roger have history; - Yes, Shanks and Mihawk have history; - Yes, Shanks is a big name and we hardcore readers and watchers have still not the full story about him yet! But trust me: everytime he'll be back in the story it's going to be an hit! - Try to rewatch the Roger execution scene, you will now recognize some faces in the crowd and some other the cam indulge on.. and it's not just a coincidence... - Birds delivering newspapers... There's more there as well! - In episode 1, rewatch the scene when Shanks gives Luffy stitches, you'll be able to hear a tune in the background... That is more of an easter egg definitely!!! - season 2 is maybe even more important than season1 for setting the main lore! They have to be good with casting because we will meet endgame characters literally able to turn upside down the whole world of OP!

Arlong honestly was chasing a pipedream. He could have had all the maps in the world, but the moment he would have ran into someone like Garp or Mihawk or shanks or dozens of other big names he would have been turned into sushi. He really wasn't all that strong relative to the big names on the grandline, and tbh he should have known better than to believe that. He can be a big deal in east blue but once hes out amongst the big dogs he really wouldn't have been able to hang. That "Jinbei" that they mentioned in episode 7 that triggered him? Jinbei alone would have sonned him and arlong knew that, thats partially why he got so mad when they mentioend him lmao.
Manga/Anime Arlong probably knew this and that was why he was content being a backwater tyrant in the boonies. But show Arlong probably had the cajones and drive to wage some guerrilla tactics and get stronger bit by bit, pick the battles he could fight and work his way up. Probably get other fishmen to follow his cause. Not unlike Buggy's meteoric rise. It was probably for the best this more active Arlong got stomped when he did!

I love the live action, i think they did as well as they could considering the limitations....but the anime is so much better. They spend more time with everything, characters, plot, even the world building, and it makes everything hit so much harder because you get more emotionally invested. And if you really can't wait for season 2... Why wait at all? Theresa 1000+ episodes available for you to start TODAY. And i gotta say, you have picked up on a lot that most new fans missed, and know so much more than when you started, but its still the tip of the iceberg... You still know nothing.

Loved your reactions! As a fan of the original, I was fully ready to hate this show. Anime adaptions are almost always a disaster, One Piece is so wacky that it doesn't seem like it'd work in live action, and Netflix has been putting out a lot of stinkers lately. But man... this show is incredible. While a lot of the characterization and actual storylines are different than the source, it's clear the creators truly love and understand what makes One Piece special because it's fully present here!

I've been reading the manga and following the anime for years and I lvoed the live action a lot! I even think it imporves certain parts that are not shown that much in the manga like Coby&Helmeppo's development with Garp. Glad you enjoyed it so much, It was fun watching you rwact! As a fan of the original, I was fully ready to hate this show. Anime adaptions are almost always a disaster, One Piece is so wacky that it doesn't seem like it'd work in live action, and Netflix has been putting out a lot of stinkers lately.
But man... this show is incredible. While a lot of the characterization and actual storylines are different than the source, it's clear the creators truly love and understand what makes One Piece special because it's fully present here!
I had that feeling too! Feels like they really driving our connection to the characters.

I gotta ask, are you interested in reacting to 'The Breathtaking World of One Piece' since S2 will still be a few years away. The breathtaking world is like a non-spoiler showcase [fan trailer] vid for the islands, places, cities, and environments that you can expect to see in the anime. If you're interested in knowing what challenges the showrunners have to fulfill for the epicness that is the One Piece world. ;)))) It is a tall order for them to make the rest of the seasons. Part of me hopes you'll watch the anime, as long as you have a filler guide you'll be fine. I really want you to see WHY Arlong has such a hatred for humans and to meet The First Son of the Sea. Just watch it in Japanese for your own sanity.

Garp is that lv 99 guy chilling in the lv 10 area to give tips to new players. Personally I like we get more of him here than the original although I would prefer the actor to be a little more relaxed in future seasons since Garp personality should not be that serious

I even think it imporves certain parts that are not shown that much in the manga like Coby&Helmeppo's development with Garp. Glad you enjoyed it so much, It was fun watching you rwact! While I enjoyed the Live Action, it really doesn't hold a candle to the original. The anime has some pacing issues, but I recommend you try it sometime and judge for yourself.
