    I had the 1.5L hybrid model from early 2015 (before the face lift). Nice car, very good price, quite spacious with lots of room for my 2 dogs in the back or loading space for any project you might do. I previously had a Volvo V70. The Volvo is much bigger, but I find the Fielder is more than sufficient for my purposes. Also, the Volvo give a feeling of quality in the interior that the Toyota just doesn't have. But the Volvo was constantly in the workshop with huge bills, while so far the Toyota has been humming along with no issues. The Fielder consumes about 1/3 of the petrol of the V70!
    I lost this Fielder in a head on collision with a BMW. Yes, the BMW won and there was much more damage on the Toyota, but the Toyota did what it's supposed to do, crumpled up, and protected me perfectly. The car was totaled and I didn't have a scratch. So I bought basically the same car again - 1.5L hybrid model from late 2015 (after the face lift). I like it just as well as the first one.
    One caveat, I like listening to music in the car, and the speakers in the Fielder are the worst I have ever heard. Worse than in a 1980s Fiat - my first car. On the positive side, replacing the speakers in the Toyota is no problem. The interior of this car is super easy to works on, unlike the Volvo where everything was bolted down in mysterious ways. Anyhow, if music is at all important to you, and upgrade of the stereo system might be in order. I installed a rear view camera in the process, which is a really nice addition.

      Hey man I have the 2013 import model fielder. May I say the stock interior speakers are phenomenal, I’m always getting compliments on my supposed aftermarket sound system. It is quite possible the atrocity of your speakers are a direct outcome of teenagers blasting music.

      @@Modaholic13 - May I suggest that a previous owner upgraded the speakers in your car. I have taken out the stock speakers in mine. Once I saw them, I was no longer surprised about the sound - or rather the lack thereof. It's too bad that I did not take a photo, but the magnet of the speaker is about the size of a penny, and weighs as much. There isn't a snowball's chance in hell that you can get decent mids out of that design, let alone any semblance of bass.

    Super helpful review when looking to purchase a used car. Practical and fair insights. We eventually purchased a 1.5L Manual "Corolla GX Wagon" (NZ New vs imported) for which I struggled to find any reviews until I learnt that the Fielder is basically the same car.

      Meaning the fielder is the newer improved version of the Corolla 1998 G Touring Wagon. Wow!
      We used to call it a Caldina in Uganda back in the day

    what i like about japanese cars is in the japanese market only, their cars are much packed with side mirrors that are shifted to the side of the door giving it more space and the usual japanese cars box but the design can withstand modern 2014 era upwards, and japanese cars all though not very fast but it is very neat and beautiful showing the image of Japan that prioritizes perfection like its good society

    As a Canadian, I wonder whether these wonderful Fielders just wash up on the beaches of New Zealand or are they imported officially?

      NZ has a large used imported Japanese car market. Many companies and used car dealers purchase cars, ship them to NZ, and then register them here. Used cars have to meet safety, economy, and emissions standards. Find out more here:

      Almost 60% of all vehicle registrations in New Zealand each year are used Japanese imports, according to Driven magazine. Largely because NZ is one of few other countries to drive on the left and we have a large demand for used cars. Australia also imports used cars from the Japanese market.

    Only weighs 1160kg, so the 1.8 in sports or manual mode should perform fairly well.

    This car is a waste of space. Even a Honda Fit has boot space almost like that... Honda Shuttle is way bigger.

    • @nzcarreviews2691
      @nzcarreviews2691  Рік тому +5

      I can't comment on the Honda Shuttle as we don't have them in New Zealand, but the Honda Fit has no way near that amount of space in the boot. The Fit is a hatchback and has about half a meter between the boot and the rear seats. This is a station wagon and has at least meter. My sister owns one and my grandfather owns one and they aren't even close!
