Made this way more complicated than it needs to be. Also, 3/8 is on the small side, 1/2, 5/8 or 3/4 is preferred. Don't cut the chain, you'll need the entire length for any meaningful weight. Use nylon strapping instead of the o-rings. Make different lengths of straps and just use the chains to make up the distance of the range of motion for your various lifts. Just buy 2 chains, one whole chain for each end of the bar, and add the chain in successive loops to your snap links to increase the weight of your chain.
Hate to be the negative Nancy here but unfortunately sir you did it wrong. You should never hang the chain directly like that from the bar. You should have a smaller looped chain hanging off the bar and lay the chains through the loop of the smaller chain.

Why hook it on weights? Why not just lift chains themselfs? Need more weight? Add more chains!

U think bolt cutters would br able to cut through the 3/8 chains?
Yes, I do it at work all the time. Has to be a long handle set though. A small set won't do it.
