The depth of field on the 2nd leg is incredible. All world champions in classical races, except the retired Veerpalu and Estil, took part. There were the 2003 champion Teichmann, the 2007 champion Hjelmeset, the 2011 champion Heikinen and the 2013 champion Olsson + the 2005 skiathlon champion Vittoz. They were all overtaken by Bauer who always remained silver in his big races.
There is much ado about Northug. But have you noticed how Lukas Bauer pushed the Czech relay from the chase (36 s gap) into the leading group, in spite of the fact that such superb skiers like Vitoz, Teichmann, Olsson or Hjelmeset were running there? Without Lukas there would be no bronze medal for us.

64fairlane359! ... Well, Hellner is a guy as if he had gone to his max all the way he would´ve won with 1 minute at least before Northug .. Just check the skiathlon here in Vancouver and the sprintfinal in "Holmenkollen 2011" - Northug is a fast sprinter but Hellner is a rocket in the case of sprint riots !!!

All the four Canadians had been among the first 15 in Skiathlon and could feel the support of the home crowd so they certainly had the shot of achieving a medal in relay. Unfortunately, Kershaw had a bad day, losing almost half a minute on the first leg, even though he completely dominated the first leg one year earlier in Liberec.

Lars is exhausted! He did his best. Well done. And Petter was amazing as well, all honour to him, and he should be proud of the results after all. How many skiers are able to catch up when they're a half minute behind, on only 10K?

Let's be fair, Olsson sprinted away a lead on the 2nd lap and Södergren on the 3rd despite being caught up. The only reason Sweden didn't run away completely with this is because a group of guys go faster than the lonewolf. It's really hard to create gaps and run away with them like this, especially on the men's side.
Well At The Last end of the race Hellner did go about 20 seconds faster than Northug MASTERTACTIC from a MASTER TEAM - and SWEDEN were also OLYMPIC CHAMPION`S in "2014

Rightly said. You have to remember that when skiers get into groups they tend to give ways to each other resulting in a much slower pace, but Bauer took advantage of that and so it was a spectacular run by him. A well-deseved bronze for the Czechs I think who demonstrated magnificent team effort, whereas France paid the price for the unfortunate fall at the beginning.
masaXXIII And look also at Poltaranin´s feat: reducing the split from 38 to 27 s. against Olsson (!) and kicking Hjelmeset´s ass (starting 36 s. behind him and overtaking him by another 6 s.)

I don't think the French were doomed by that fall down.. that french guy took a calculated risk going down the hill so recklessly, and it paid off to some extent because he still did well. Problem was that the French got used to the pack... just like you described... and didn't have the mental energy left to battle random norway dude coming up from the back.

Petter is fantastic! Unfortunately, there was no gold chances after big problems for Hjelmeset, but he did his job perfectly.
I don't know why Petter's finish is missing in most of live coverages but my own version is: Northug's finish is missing because violence is prohibited on TV.

As if nothing changed between Vancouver and Sochi! Gaillard and Jauhojärvi dominating the first leg, the unlucky French falling down in both cases. Sundby not in his best form, leaving Northug with the tantalising task of catching up a huge split. Great Bauer on the second leg, the unbeatable Swedes. That is called "repetition of history"!

I don´t get it how in the 2nd classic leg Heikinen didn´t catch up with the rest of the field and one year later he became world champion over 15 km classic.
Competing at the highest level, no matter the talent or training background, you also need to reach your peak on that special day. Or maybe his skis just sucked.

Yes, very impressive. But Hellner was clearly in control at the end. He could've won with 40 seconds maybe had he really wanted to.
I'm taking nothing away from Hellner. Great race by the Swedes. Just saying amazing individual effort by the thug.

No not at all. There is a HUGE difference between doing something stupid and doing something ILLEGAL. Ofc Ive done lots of stupid things when Ive been drunk, but Ive never broken the law. Im sorry but I dont drive, no matter how drunk I get, I dont punch ppl and I definately dont flee crime scenes.

How can you say that he sucks when he took his team to a silver medal when their team was hopeless far behind after 3 legs? You know as well as me that everything worked perfectly for Sweden this day, and they were best this day, while Hjelmeseth on the second leg had hopeless skis. But I also know that if Northug had been able to start right after Hellner (37 secs is a lot), he would have made swisstoast out of him in a sprint, and would he had sucked then?

Hellner won in 2011 because of an unexpected move and that Northug did one of his few bad tactical moves in championshipraces which made it possible for another swede to put poles in the wheel. So there wasn't enough distance left to make up for the bad tactical move. In the pursuit you mentioned Northug broke his pole and lost valuable time. So under normal circumstances Northug outperforms Hellner. Northug has total of 13 world championship titles, and 2 olympic golds. Hellner got 1 world championship title, but he has 3 olympic golds. So, Northug is one of the most successful crosscountryskiers ever.

What a crappy film! After nearly two hours (1:54:56) this video doesn't show the finiish! I presume Norway took silver.
He took advantage of some pretty bad and questionable tactics by France and Czech Republic. If they were more smart, they could have easily held Northug off. Northug had a good race but he was helped to that silver medal.
i wouldn't say Sweden was the best but its really nice oh and by the way i am from Iceland so i like you guys and to be fair I like all counterys so don't be offended
