  • "Rescheduling marijuana is one step that creates the conditions for creating the conditions, for maybe at some point, actually having a world where people could just smoke weed and be left alone. We are not there yet," argues Katherine Mangu-Ward

    This is haeppening for money/business reasons, not for the people and not because of the medicinal aspects. Everything in this world is run by economics and politics, nothing else.

    11:00 Another logical fallacy. The reason people who sell pot carry guns is because they don't want other people stealing their fucking money.

      Basically, I agree with you. Owning and keeping those is not a problem. Committing crimes with them is. We already have laws targeted against those crimes.

    Turning back control to the states would be the best thing across the board. Get rid of all these federal agencies and this may give people a great state for them to escape to. That's the purpose of a big country to me not this centralized crap.

  • @theprofessorfate6184

    All that really needs to be done is eliminate the ability of the DOJ , DEA, etc to act as agents of asset forfeiture. When you take the money out of business of busting people with weed you take away the incentive. They also need to make sure that no federal funding that goes to local police departments can be utilized for the enforcement or prosecution of crimes involving MJ. The money is the problem, always has been.

    • @bloodgain
      @bloodgain 25 днів тому +2

      Nah, that's not enough, because they still get tons of taxpayer funding. Why do you think every little town has a SWAT team now? It's not because they make a killing in asset forfeiture, it's because if you set up a special drug enforcement task force, you get federal funding and resources funneled to you.
      I agree with you that asset forfeiture is a problem, though. _Civil_ asset forfeiture needs to go away entirely; it's a clear violation of rights without due process.

    I'm a small 'l' libertarian and I've always wanted a complete de-scheduling of Cannabis. It is far less dangerous than codeine or anabolic steroids. BTW 'marijuana' is a racist term.

    • @VeniVidiVid
      @VeniVidiVid 26 днів тому

      🙄
      Agree with your perspective on cannabis. No need to bring in the null word racist into it. It no longer means anything.

    • @bloodgain
      @bloodgain 25 днів тому

      "Marijuana" is not a racist term. Stop repeating that. It's the Mexican word for it. Does it have a complicated history with racism and "othering"? Yes. But so does the word "queer" and now it's the fucking Q in LGBTQ. Language isn't static, and intent matters.
      Also, Santiago Ivan Guerra, professor of Southwest Studies at Colorado College, a verifiable expert in Mexican-American studies who has researched and spoken widely on Hispanic culture in relation to the Drug War says we shouldn't stop using the term. To do so would be unnecessary white-washing of its history. And many, many language, history, and culture experts agree with him that it is not a pejorative term in 2024.
      The only people making "marijuana" out to be a racist term are posturing left-wing politicians who care more about _looking_ woke than actually doing something. Debating over the terminology is a distraction from the fact that they aren't doing anything on a subject they're supposed to be the "pro" side on.

      If you dig deep enough into any word and are creative enough, you can find a way for every word to be "racist". Calling stuff racists means nothing any more.

    The main problem with drug use is people driving around under the influence. More accidents happen, more injuries and deaths. If there was a way to confine to a user’s residence, I’m totally cool with that. It’s just not practical.

      Right. Property owners also own the airspace within their property grounds, and have a vested interest in attracting as many customers as possible. Many customers don’t like the smell (or even small effects) of marijuana in the air.

      In Michigan, although public weed smoking is technically illegal, cops don't care. They have more important things to worry about. I wouldn't be surprised if weed smoking was put, almost on the same category as smoking nicotine, with the exception of certain industries.

    I was all for making weed legal until it pretty much became legal. Now I hate weed because people seem to think it’s ok to smoke it while driving and then come into my place of work and stink to high heaven. My eyes actually start watering a couple times a day a day. Talk to your fellow potheads and smoke it at home, put some perfume or cologne on or something. Because you stink and we talk about how much you stink for the next 30 min after you leave.

    As someone who works everyday in drug addiction treatment field, I go back and forth on this. There is no effective treatment for an addiction, the rates of recovery are extremely low, 2% to 20%. Leaving 80% of addicts stuck. Anything that allows more people to be exposed to the substances that contribute to addiction that we don’t have a cure for is not smart. Addicts are genetically predisposed to use, but none of us know which substances we could be susceptible to becoming addicted to. I think we should be moving away from substance use and not moving towards it.

      But you have, in my opinion, a more dangerous drug readily available for addicts that has been legal for decades and is responsible for so many tragic deaths every year. Modern society is always trying fix society through regulation and oversight, and it just can't be done no matter how stringent they get. And pot is nowhere near as impairing as alcohol can be, if not used with discretion. And let's face it, even when I was growing before any legal means to buy pot was available, anyone could get it if they wanted it, just like Prohibition.
