It's not, you don't have much adjustability with them. Each loop is 6 inches long, that means you can only tighten or looses the hammock with 6 inch increments, a rope you can have infinite adjustments
To each their own :) I’m glad there are options out there for everyone to figure out their preferences :)
The straps have every adjustment you need for a hammack and way faster to get you're hammock up and down.. just because someone uses straps doesn't mean they can't tie knots for ropes. Straps and carabiners is the way to go and some snake skins for you're tarp and hammock for fast setup and takedown 👍🏻

Hammock straps aren't necessarily better for trees. This is an on going debate and it does depend on the tree the bark and the season but one of the reason straps can be not so great is because they're actually putting stress on a larger part of the tree and can damage more bark. "doesn't harm the tree" kinda does...
I would think they’re better than hooks. In your opinion, what do you think would be the best method in most cases?
Straps harm more. They grind hard on the bark. I would suggest placing sticks inbetween the tree and the strap.

yeah sticks or even some extra clothing between the tree and your straps or rope will help the health of the tree
Kinda not the best thing to use tho some good large strap have a metal piece that slide for better an simpler adjustment
