So I haven't seen many people here talk about this. But I think it's related to the "moment" when Ambessa made a decision about her life. She is pregnant of Mel, and fight as a soldier in a Noxian war (surely in a region called Ionia). And she as a "near death experience". In the runeterra lore, the Grimreaper as many faces, but most of the time a couple of Wold/Lamb that come to offer a swift death to those who accept it (the Lamb) or a nasty one if you want to fight against it (the Wolf). But in the end, it's always them that take you life (their name is Kindred). And in Noxus, since it's a faction of warmongers, they don't conceive the death to be something you ask for, but something you have to fight against. So, they only see the Wolf. Here, she is near death, and the Wolf comes to offer her the opportunity to "fight" for her survival, rather than just accepting death on the shore. He "warp" her spirit in the place of challenge to face "Pantheon" the god of War, which is the avatar of the Wolf here. During this battle, she sees where she comes from (the sandy place). She's maybe not a Noxian by birth, but by conquest/colonisation/invasion/choice. And before being Noxian, she kept a Lamb close to her. Like if, at this time, she was willing to accept Swift Death. Then, she sees what she can become. A Queen, a General. Someone desired, but for that, she HAS to let be destroyed the part of her that is willing to accept death. And by doing so, she fully accept the Wolf. It's not just about "giving up" or, the pack, or something like this. She's swearing that she will NEVER accept it. No matter the sacrifice, no matter she has to lose. She will die fighting, and even close to death, she will continue to fight until the Wolf take her. SPOILER ARCANE S2 : I think that's why she tells Mel "You are the Wolf". I really loved the depinction of this caracter. Her backstory, her motivations, and never giving up to lies, to people, to sacrifice. She is just TOO radical, and "until they lead them all" gives it a special fragrance xD
The reason for Ambessa's armor is because this music video is doing double-duty as backstory and as an advertisement for a purchasable skin-line called "Chosen of the Wolf". Riot gotta make that money, yo.
I don't even play (Ashley) but the advertisement definitely worked because it made me want to 😂 Dennis told me it's not worth the anger the game makes you feel LOL. He's been playing for years!
U are right about the "Cunning like a fox and ruthless like a wolf" part, however, the Wolf and the Fox aren't just animals but deities that exist and people worship them. The Wolf is literally the Grim Reaper (at least half of it). I think people don't realize how much of a fantasy Arcane is do to how Arcane Season 1 is set and only hints at magic but the world of Arcane is huge were magic/gods/horrors/undead/spirits and so on do exist. I bet many wont see this coming.
Ambessa is pregnant with Mel in the video, you can see the bump. This video further explains Ambessa’s protective nature and show much she fought to keep her safe, even in the womb, Ambessa sent Mel away to protect her, I feel you guy miss her protective nature and grief that she has, she is very emotional but puts up a front as shown in the video with the blue paint, that is why the music sounds the way it does, Ambessa isn’t some brute who is doing things just for brutality, she has a lot of pain and mourning from losing her son and I believe it’ll be worse when Mel completely turns against her in season 2.
To explain what is happening. In the land of Runeterra or world of League of legends, theres a character called "Kindred" The Kindred serve as the Grim Reaper of the world of League of Legends. The story goes that Death was so lonely that it split itself in two, so it would "always have a friend". One half is the Lamb, and the other half is the Wolf. Lamb represents the peace in acceptance of death, wielding a bow to deliver a swift end, and Wolf represents the violence of rejecting and running from death, being literally a beast that mauls anything that tries to escape. You only see them when they've decided your time has come. (One last quick note - Lamb feels little but knows everything, while Wolf feels everything but knows little.) In Noxian culture they don't worship the lamb as they don't believe in accepting death, they worship the wolf. That's why she see's the wolf first and it takes her into a different realm where she faces death. It also is teasing some of her background as Ambessa family lineage is from the land of Shurima, they use to be most poweful kingdom but long ago fell apart for various reasons. The other characters we see are Swain who is the grand general of Noxus, Pantheon is the one she is sparring with and he's from Targon and the last is Katarina who is also Noxian. They all have faced death in their own ways and came back alive. And the the character towards the end is The Lamb who offers Ambessa a second chance at life. We don't know if that's her first born or Mel, but it seems like she had to sacrifice something in order to defeat death it self.
wow I'm loving all this symbolism. I wish I would have caught on to it while we were watching. Knowing this makes the video so deep and makes me appreciate it even more

Some great one’s are “Riot MMO is almost done.” And gives you a great overview of the world of Runeterra. I also highly highly recommend reacting to “Bridging The Rift - Making of Arcane” It is amazing documentary about the making of Arcane and Riot games is very friendly on not copy righting their content.
My understanding of the story, based on some extra info on the League website, is it's essentially a near-death vision where Ambessa is being tested by the embodiments of Death (the wolf) and War (Pantheon) to see if she is worthy of entering this world's version of Valhalla, an afterlife that is an eternal hunt and battle for only the greatest warriors. She sees a weird dream-like version of her life so far and her transformation from an innocent child to a warrior and even a brief vision of her future where she is the great general we know in Arcane. Eventually, she passes the test and earns an afterlife of glory BUT decides she's not ready to die yet. She is pregnant with Mel at the time and has a family she must live and build a future for Also, that golden armor will not be in the show. It's a skin for the game that is basically "what if she did die there and became a Chosen Warrior of Death"
It’s wild when Super talented folks do what they do best making entertainment all to be criticized and dismissed by randos reacting to it. Not everyone’s preference but my lord those involved are insanely talented at creating novel content.
Definitely agree they are super talented people creating literally everything we react to including this video, but it just didn’t hit for me. Maybe it will, sometimes it takes me a few watches of something
If i may interject lol and apologize for long comments, but this is a great introduction to start exploring more of league of legends and lore. To explain some things, Noxus as a nation can be slightly hard to explain. Overall they are viewed as an evil, expansionist nation that likes war. But internally they just value strength above all else. Ironically and not to retcon the show, they offer any many new nations they conquer a chance to join the nation of Noxus from lowest citizen to highest official. If you can do something and you have the willpower to show your value, you will do well. In short they are a meritocracy which values individuals abilities, strength and talents vs wealth, social class or race. One its highest generals - Darius, started out in the slums in Noxus with his brother Draven and they worked their way up to the highest rank of the army. In short, if you are weak, you will not survive in Noxian society.
"It looks out of place" because it is! Just remember that Arcane is just the tip of an iceberg interms of League of Legends lore. Think of it as a "Baby" storyline compared to the other 9 other regions existing in the League of Legends World (Runeterra). There are a total of 11 regions, Piltover and Zaun included. So yeah, there's still more to learn and expect from the lore of League of Legends.
it is deep because of the soulfull like a black spiritual... with the story showing the spirital struggle she went through .... Like it is to be sung in church....
According to the video, i agree, i also thought that the music and cinematic in general was not that spectacular. Especially if you take a look on the last cinematic "i still here" where you literally got goosebumps half the video xD.
Well i mean i don't know if you both saw all the other opening, but in my opinion they had a greater show on the last few years. I mean it still was awesome * _ * , especially because i was there in London it was even better than just on screen :D. But ngl all them shows over the last years gave you goosebumps ^^. And not just once in one show xD. The " i'm still here" song with the kindred, damn so insane :D
