Fighting Game Bosses 173. SoulCalibur III - Abyss boss battle

Call me a noob if you want, but I swear, there's something with AI in this game. It's as if it knows the exact moment when I let go of block button.
Regardless, Abyss is the default boss of this game. Despite being powered up Zasalamel, its moveset is different for the most part. His attacks are pretty fast as well. Two moves that you really need to look out for are mid-to-low scythe swipe combo and jumping cartwheel, since it comes out very fast. He also has a fireball attack, but that takes forever to charge so you can just walk around the boss and give him a faceful of steel.

I hear this game was criticized by a lot of people for how unforgiving its AI can be. The single player mode seems to up the difficulty gradually, then at a certain point it spikes.

Probably from lack of dev time this game compared to two had some nasty glitches and balance issues. Still a good game but definitely needs a polish and fixing if this game gets a port

if you manage to guard impact the enemy, enemy will do the same 100% guaranteed. i thought it was ridiculous

I bought a totally different game (the sims 2) and this one was in it instead lol. I enjoyed it a lot, tho.

I beat this guy consistently in few tries on "Very Hard" in the last days, but he took me thousands of attempts yesterday. With the same character, of course. I don't know what changed. A few years earlier, I got my standard level with the same character up to "Ultra Hard". Yes, I could beat Abyss as well. But I don't feel comfortable jumping to "Ultra Hard" yet with Abyss still being a problem.
I'm currently fighting with Maxi. Does anyone have tips how to prepare for this guy?
