They suspend the WNBA season for the Olympics. As for your other point: she missed the Olympic training camp in April because it coincided with the Final Four. So, yeah, the committee had pretty much made up their minds before she even finished the NCAA tournament.
They want her to be a walk-on for the Olympic team like it is high school or college. The vast majority of the people complaining about this do not know a soccer ball from a basketball and think this is American Idol. The process should not apply to this one person because social media has fooled some people into thinking basketball did not exist before this woman started playing.
She’s only played a handful of games. She hasn’t earned a spot on US team.
All those concerned people who are whining and complaining about CC not being on the US women’s Olympic basketball team do not have women’s basketball or the WNBA or basketball players good intentions in mind.
And the majority of those complainers are mostly just trying to promote their own Brand and exposure for their own greedy motivations.

There are some great rookies out there this year in the WNBA. With that being said, they would NOT make my Olympic team. I’m going there to win, not risk the gold for approval points.
Caitlins Clarks PR team has on such a tight leash. Generic responses that keep her image clean cut, supportive and agreeable. She has no criticism of anything. I hope she has a top spoeys psycholist on deck because she has to slowing be losing it under all this pressure. But as of the Olympic Committee, thay dont give a fuuuu about jersey sales, shoe deals and her shoe deal. They want to bring home anothet Gold medal. And that means picking the best players.
To answer your question about why it's so weird? Because iN the mid to late 90's , we created the "Everybody iz a Winner Culture" (could have been as early as late 80's) and now those KiDZ are Adults with that mentality of privilege, marketing/ brand over merit, ability and strategy.
That's a good point, but I think the internet-driven culture of "it doesn't have to be good; it just has to be popular" has more to do with this. If you read comments about Clark, some of them try to justify her selection with statistical evidence, but most of the time, the argument is that she draws fans and viewers, ergo she should be on the team.
There is an angle that I don't see anyone addressing in this whole matter. Do you know who was one of the six members of the selection committee? Dawn Staley. As in three time national champion coach Dawn Staley. As in 38-0 2024 championship coach Dawn Staley. As in four-time Naismith Award winner Dawn Staley. As in three-time Olympian Dawn Staley. As in Gold Medal-winning coach in the 2020 Games Dawn Staley. Does anyone presume to suggest that Dawn Staley does not know how to assemble a championship basketball team?

Being face-guarded the entire 94 feet of floor space throughout the game and most double/triple teamed player, Caitlin Clark is not among the best and important players in the WNBA? Taurasi, Briana Stewart, A'ja Wilson, Kelsey Plum, etc. are never treated this way.
Yes one the greatest snub for Women Team USA was Candace Parker. She is the only one that was named ROY and MVP in the same year.

CC could not win a NCAA Championship against an underfeated team whose only loss in 2 years was against her playing on an average Iowa Hawkeye Team/Program. It truly amazes me that we can't acknowledge becoming the NCAA Div I All-Time leading scorer while reaching consecutive national title games is a remarkable achievement. CC achieved this while also becoming the 1st NCAA Div I player to lead in scoring and assists. CC reaching 200 PTS, 75 AST & 60 REB faster than any other rookie also doesn't matter because of turnovers. Who cares if 3 of the of the last 5 top WNBA draft picks were selected on the Olympic team. It's downright unreasonable to believe CC deserve a spot also. I surrender.
She walked off the court to allow her teammate who was injured and unable to play in their last games who was also a senior one last chance to walk on the court to have that chance knowing that they weren’t going to win the game…that wasn’t her turning her back on her teammates but being a friend.
Plus what I don’t understand is how no one understands the difference between being a player who is the only all American player on her own able to take a program to the national championships not once but twice on her back and go up against teams that are franchises known for going and winning national championships which build their teams with that in mind. She lost to SC who had 5 all American players on that team.
Plus think about how now that Boston is from SC and was the #1 pick as well but also won a championship yet she is doing worst then Caitlin this year? Which shows which many don’t want to acknowledge and even I don’t like saying because Boston is such a l. Amazing women but the truth is by being surrounded by all American players you are able to hide and get away with being actually an average player who in reality if you were on any other team would have ended up not going as the #1 pick but more down the list because you wouldn’t have been able to hide your weaknesses.
Boston and CC are two totally different playing styles trying to be forced to play together which is why it’s not working. With teammates that also have a coach that don’t know what she is doing because she never even runs plays for them but instead just puts them in the game and tells them to basically figure it out you are on your own which is why they never know how to screen, never help when CC is getting blitzed, etc.
either way just as the women commented CC has things she needs to work on that is going to take time but the problem is many are expecting that in a matter of games she is going to be able to have a mod range game or be able to defend like a pro without giving her any Grace or time to adjust. She is going to need time to get stronger working out and it would actually be beneficial for her to play overseas even though she doesn’t have to because that way she doesn’t get rusty and if it’s as physically dominant as they say it would be good for her.
Yet I don’t understand why people can’t be fair about this and not go so hardcore in their comments.

She was never snubbed. She wasn't on The Women's National Team. The women on the list had worked out for the Women's National team for 3 years and played in a tournament. Stephen A Smith didn't know the rule and was crying out of control. It would have been extremely disrespectful to the selectees had the committee allow Caitlin Clark to be on the team.
Nor did she attend the Olympic training camp in April. Granted, it coincided with the Final Four, but the committee had to make a decision. The irony is: if Iowa hadn't gone so far, she might have established her bona fides at the training camp, and all this would be moot.
Thank you for mentioning this. I've only heard this fact presented ONCE before. So all of the chatter about anything else is a moot point.

These no good hypocrites are just going beserk, screaming bloody murder, and shedding crocodile tears over Caitlin Clark not being picked to be on the US women's olympic basketball team to participate at the upcoming Summer Olympic Games in Paris. Some people are already pointing the finger of blame at Dawn Staley claiming she was the reason Clark was not chosen to be on the olympic team because Staley was a part of the committee that decided who would be on the team. For one thing Clark didn't even try out for the olympic team because she was playing in the NCAA basketball tournament back in April and the team she played for Iowa was defeated by Dawn Staley's South Carolina team for the national championship and South Carolina's defense limited Clark to just 11 points for the entire game. And in Clark's first 10 games in the WNBA she struggled mightly in those games shooting only 32.7percent and is not playing good defense. She is definitely unproven and her team the Indiana Fever are struggling and near the bottom in the overall WNBA standings.

Caitlin is the greatest women's college basketball player of all time. She broke all these women's college records that are on this Olympic team.
Her stats in one month are better than half of the women on this team. She is breaking rookie records already playing on a bad team with a bad coach. Taurasi and other rookies of the past made the women's team, and they did not set the women basketball on fire like Caitlin.

I'm old enough to remember when the women's Olympic basketball team ran circles around the men's Olympic basketball team because of international experience. This was in 2004. They easily won gold because they had extensive experience playing overseas and in international pro leagues. The men's team had a bunch of young superstars (AI, Lebron, D Wade, etc.) and they struggled to win bronze. They were embarrassed on a world stage. CC not only is she new to the league, but she hasn't won anything. Why do people feel she deserves a spot? Has she been training for it? Has she played overseas? Why would this team embarrass themselves on a global stage to coddle this young lady?

Regardless of what side you are on this debate women’s hoops is winning because of this debate and the impact of a high profile athlete. It’s allowed the great players to have their supporters speak up on their behalf. It’s what sports and entertainment is all about.
