British army mess tin lasagne

The fresh pasta sheets from Tesco are a great fit for my British army mess tins so I thought I would make a simple beef lasagne in them
I'm not a fan of bechamel sauce so didn't make one but you can get a powder version that's easy to make even when camping if you wish 😉
First I fried a small chopped onion and a clove of garlic and added about 125g of minced beef, once that was browned I added an oxo cube.
Great thing about sauces like this is you can add whatever you want but I kept mine basic as I wanted to keep it minimal as I would if I was camping somewhere other than the garden as we all are at the moment
So I used some tomato puree and water rather than chopped tomatoes before added some dried oregano and basil
Now my sauce was ready I oiled the second pan and placed a sheet of pasta on the bottom a layer of sauce, pasta, sauce, pasta and finally grated cheese on top
Quick rinse of the first pan and place it on top so you can add coals to make a mini oven and bake for thirty minutes
The PSCOOK stove is a good fit for these pans for this method and it includes a pocket bellows which is very handy

So much easier to carry than a dutch oven too! Gonna have to try that!

Even though this was just in my backyard I kept it basic as this is how to do it when camping

This looks great. How long did it take?
Making the sauce was 30 - 40 minutes and I baked it for another 30 minutes but I had already chopped the onions and garlic, so hour and half or so altogether

You can use esbit tablets or alcohol stoves with it too but I generally use it as a mini grill 👍
Most recipes tell me to cook the lasagne a bit first, but it seems you just put it into the pan completely dried
You just let the sauce to do the magic? or you added water in the middle?

These were fresh lasagne sheets that were defrosted after having previously been frozen so no prior cooking required as you would with dried pasta

Great video! Any tips to avoid food sticking when cooking in a mess tin? I recently picked up a Trangia aluminium mess kit and am keen to avoid any baked-on disasters.
You can get Teflon ones but I've not used them to say how effective the nonstick coating is
For standard aluminium like this you just have to check it and see
What folding stove is this
It's one by a company called PSCOOK there's a link for it in the description but there are various companies making this style stove on eBay, Amazon, AliExpress etc
