Everyone is trying to sound like metal fatigue Allan today, but the man never settled. Here he was in 2012 making sounds from 2059 with those glorious Yamaha Magicstomps. This is what amazes me the most about Allan. He was leagues ahead with no intent of leaving breadcrumbs

Goodness me: those bass pedal triplets and syncopation is devastatingly beautiful; what a virtuoso player is Virgil Donati. Coupled with Anthony Crawford bass virtuosity, Allan had a stellar line-up.
PHENOMENAL !!! Tony W. , Chad W. , Gary H. , and Jimmy J. are tops but...but...these guys on Bass and drums? I just don't know what to say...I', speechless...Of course Alan H. will always be the supreme originator and reigning champion among the many timeless champions of superhuman endeavor

About 20 years ago I saw Virgil at a drum clinic in Connecticut that was sponsored through Dynamic Percussion (saw Terry Bozio that year too, dude had like an 80 piece kit haha, all Virgil needs is a 4 piece to sound just as good)

As a guitarist for some 47 years I’ve been a fan of Allen’s almost from the beginning, love his harmonies and linear melodies and of course that smooth tones.
FOR ME MY OPINION IS THAT ALLAN HOLDSWORTH IS THE BIGGEST FAMOUS AND BEST GUITAR PLAYER EVER APSOLUTELY FANTASTIC SOUND AND VERY CLEAVER CORDS AND SCALES FRASIES AND ALL THIS TECHNICS A VERY BIG RESPECT TO ALLAN AND ALL THE MUSICIANS WHO HAD PLAY WITH HIM
I was so lucky to see this amazing top level avant garde fusion trio performing in Madrid.I couldn`t believe my ears.Virgil comes from another galaxy,perhaps the same where Allan is playing now.
These three are well capable of cutting their own road chemistry as a Holdsworth project. I see the evolution and its potentials. What a great concert. Thanks Virgil.

This group have really come into their own now. Virgil has matured into Allan's music and Anthony is unbelievable. As for Allan... Well - what can I say. Still pushing he boundaries with a tone that is beautiful and epic.
@@KrisVComm they are great. saw holdsworth with Wackerman over 20 years ago. Virgil could not have done any better. that show was assume. What people fail to realize is that these so called more technical drummers use more drums and cymbals for different sounds. the pure greats do not need all that to make and have their own voice.

He also used to hang out at the bar in the San Juan Creek golf course where I would go watch friends play. The “extra” drums in a larger kit do in fact serve a useful purpose. They are not extraneous or ancillary for drummers who know how to play larger kits. In the same way Allan used more expansive chords which took advantage of 9ths, 11ths, 13ths in order to obtain his signature sound. These type of arguments leveled by the more simplistic and rudimentary player are merely soft excuses for not having developed more. Allan’s music was deep and complex and not always easily understood at first listening. Music should at times make demands upon the listener. There is so much basic music that we hardly need to make a defense for it. It is also true that Mc Donald’s has served Billions. This does not make the food any better than properly prepared food created by a true chef and artisan. Too many people excuse mediocrity and lack of growth.

I love the light feathery sound of Virgil's drums in this! Both the sound mix and his playing is perfect for the music as a whole.

Sounds like Allan has a gate set and the threshold is set a hair too high and it's clipping some of those really soft notes.

I put Virgil among Weckl, Chambers, etc.as one of the best. Damn he's good. This band is on a different level in all aspects of virtuosity !
But Chamber's sound is unique and he uses traditional kit and cymbals.
