This lovely cycle of choral songs, with texts drawn from The Tempest by Shakespeare, are Martin's only English-language work. He subsequently incorporated them -- in A.W. Schlegel's classic German translation -- into his operatic setting of the entire play (as Der Sturm). They also exerted an influence on three fine orchestral works of the 1950s: the Concerto for Harpsichord, the Violin Concerto and the Etudes/Studies for String Orchestra.
