Really helpful. This certainly took away my scares since I have already entered wrong pin twice and waiting not knowing what I do next
Really excellent video man. You're a great communicator. Thank you.
I have a question for those who use Ledger Nano S, I have sent all my Bitcoin from my coinbase wallet to my Nano S. I have yet to send Bitcoin from my ledger but I noticed that when determining the amount to be sent it must be measured in Bitcoin not in Dollar amount. With coinbase I can determine the exact Dollar amount I wish to send and it automatically converts it into the exact Bitcoin amount. Is there a setting on Ledger Nano S that allows be to determine amounts to send in Dollars not Bitcoin?.....Thanks for your help!
The best intro video I've watched,thank you.Just bought one.^^
No problem David! Let me know how you like it :)
Is Ledger Nano S stand alone wallet? Or do I need a another desktop wallet to interface it with? I have Coinomi on my desktop.... Do I need to synchronise it with Ledger? Do I need Coinomi at all?
Wow! What an excellent tutorial! Thanks for sharing.
No problem! Hope it helps with your setup. Kudos for being concerned about security.
Just a heads up, they have changed to a desktop app now, which I also did a video on. Just search "ledger live BTC Sessions" and it'll pop right up. Enjoy!
Hi, I am planning to buy my first bitcoin, is the nano x enough to store bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies?
If I have my bitcoin core wallet on my laptop, how can I move it to my ledger nano s? or am I missing something here
Hi Ben, I like you videos they are very Informative. And thanks for sharing your experiences with Safe Hardware devices.
I have a question when you say "The wallet generates a new public address every time." Does this mean should I check every time somewhere, whenever I'm giving my public address to any one.
Like my gmail address is a public key. Does the public key works on same line here. Or do I need to share new Public key for every new transaction after checking it somewhere.
Please advice.
How does this connect to the coins network? Does it use a third party server? If it doesn't go direct to block chain isn't that not very secure or long term stable?.
Interested to here your thoughts on the new Ballet wallet coming soon.
so say I have 1 bitcoin, I can transfer this onto the ledger nano S. As the price of bitcoin rises and falls will that reflect on the nano? I want to transfer my coins on it, however I want to be able to continue to make money and buy/sell. Can I do this with the nano or is this an item for once I sell the coins, I transfer it into the nano? Thanks
What if i do some small trading should i only transfsr to an exchange ONLY when im home ready to trade? And why do they say to possibly buy 2 or more as a backup ?
Can I use this with any alt coin? And without sounding dumb, I know there are no physical coins, but if I took what I have on Binance, for example, and transferred to my nano, Binance should show balance of ZERO, and the nano will contain a key stating I have X amount of my alt coin? I hope that makes sense.
I have my bitcoin stored on my Coinbase wallet, I don’t really have a huge amount of bitcoin at the moment however if was to buy a larger amount in the future would you recommend buying this Ledger Nano S and storing my bitcoin on there rather than the Coinbase wallet? And would it not cost me fees to keep sending bitcoin from my Coinbase wallet to this physical Ledger Nano S? That’s the main thing I’m concerned about (getting charged fees constantly every time I send the bitcoins to the physical hardware from Coinbase)
Thanks :)
Thank you. This was simple and well explained!! Thanks :)
Wicked tutorial love your city We were there past summer. Im definitely going to invest in one of these .
Hey there! What´s the best cold storage device for storing other altcoins such as those of exchanges (Poloniex, Bittrex..) ? What´s the capacity and how many different coins can it store?
Help...for some reason the ripple desktop app does not connect with my ledger s...why?
That was awesome. I like the fact that you can wipe it clean and recover it; so keeping that passphrase is not on the Internet. That old school security is best. They need the Nano and the piece of paper or whatever to transfer funds... cold storage is the way to go! On to you Keep Key Review... it’s been almost 2 years... are u a Nano or Keep Key guy or both?
Thanks for providing us with helpful information! I've been watching your videos, but something that I still don't understand is that if I buy XRP from a platform, will having a hardware wallet secure me from the platform suddenly closing down?
If I have bitcoins at let's say Xapo, once I configure my Ledger Nano S, do I need to move my bitcoins to Ledger Wallet Bitcoin app? If so, how do I do it? Also, if I want to buy or sell bitcoins, would I still need an account at Xapo?
Great video. Quick newbie question: Do I use the HEX or IBAN address to receive ETH from my Coinbase account?
Hello! I have my recovery phrase but can't seem to get the pin correct.
Im afraid of losing my funds, can I still get in with just the recovery phrase?
Awsome, quick question, im no computer bof. Can you incript a external usb, aswell, is that safe?
Does the Ledger software allow you to view balances and generate receive addresses when the device is not connected? Does their software allow xpub export?
Hi Ben, I really love your videos! I have learned so much from you. I am new to 'all of this' so you make it easy for someone who is Not a techie and being a Senior, it is not so easy to learn anymore. I just tried to order the Ledger Nano S and the reply said: 'they do not Ship to Toronto, Canada'! Can you tell which Hard wallet would be your second choice? Thx I also put the CoPay App on my phone and it came thru with USD and not CAD?
Can you take a small portion of your bitcoins off not the total?
Ok what about if this hardware crashed?? Which i mean if i lost it or crashed so what can I do??
How do I record a paper wallet incase I lose my device ? How do I record my private keys? Is my backup phrase only good for one device or can I buy another nano S and use my seed phrase to get back into my account.
Solid info and straight forward tutorial I thought.
Does this mean I can store both, BTC and Etherum in one ledger nano wallet at the same time with the same security words and the same passcode ?
bought currency directly from the Exchange entering my address from the Nano Ledger S, but do not receive the coins. What to do?
Even though it looks cheaper than the keepkey when you take into account shipping from france and currency conversion it's basically the same price...If you are from the states it's the same price.
Do you have any insight on loading komodo onto the ledger nano s?
I can't view my wallet content using the nano S. Where are the bitcoins in this case and how do i get them back? I
ve deleted the chrome app extension and reinstalled but still can not get into the nano s. How can one find out where the bitcoin are if you can not assess the nano S?
Hello, I have a question regarding the use of the Ledger Nano S:
Is it possible to use it for several people ?
Ex: I have crypto currencies on my Ledger Nano S. I convince my father to invest in crypto, he creates a trading account on Binance, CoinbasePro, Etoro ... to buy and trade some crypto. We use my Ledger Nano S to secure its crypto on the blockchain.
Does it work or will he needs a Ledger Nano S ?
Thank you
Do you need to use this with a computer thats never been connected to the internet like when making a paper wallet?
This video was so useful bc now i know they take ETC which is another currency I was interested in w/this wallet.
Thank you for making this video I'll leave a like and check some other content ya got xD
So can I use only the official Ledger apps (Wallets) ?
What if if they're gone, all money gone?
what happens when you plug it in and there is no light. the unit is dead. How do you get the wallet back?
It s this really necessary if i am afraid of stealing???And my main questons is what should i do if i don t have btc/eth and i got other stuff like neo,xem which wallet should i use?
Hi I seen a lot of Forums where people are recommending using an Electrum wallet with the Nano s? However I cannot find any one giving a reason for this ? Has anybody got some light they could shed on this for me please?
How does it compare now to newer devices?
where do you download the wallets that you have on the computer? the ledger wallets that you downloaded to use with the ledger. thanx
chrome store
Can people use keylogger on this ledger? They said the original ledger was vulnerable to keyloggers as opposed to keepkey or trezor
Thanks mate. Can you store all tokens that ride on ETH block chain on this bad boy as well?
obvious question from newbie : how do i get from my GBP bank account to BTC or ETH ?!?
Can you store other Coins apart from BTC and ETH on the Nano? Thanks!
thx..just bought the older one.
Ordered one today. There must be a shortage here in Australia, delivery is not until July 2017 (4 to 5 week wait)!
Thanks for the tutorial! Bought one.
@ BTC Sessions i have a question is the Ledger Nano S compatible with 32Bit Windows OS or 64Bit Windows OS or both 32Bit and 64Bit Operating Systems... ???
I installed the app connected the ledger but the app will not open up. Any idea what's wrong?
After opening the application, what could be the reason for the wallet not to launch after entering the pin code?
Does it only ask you to confirm the amount you're sending and not the recipient? Doesn't that make it possible for a PC malware to hijack the transaction to a different address?
hey maybe you can help I have two ledger nano s's and neither of them will let me send any bitcoins to another wallet. even between the two wallet I cannot sends bitcoins from one ledger to the other. basically any money is stuck on this stupid device. it lets me get all the way up to the point of verifying the transaction on the ledger device. after that on the computer pops up unable to send or something of that sort. sooooo frustrating!!!
Hi, where did you get Ledger Nano S in Canada? Thanks
Thanks for the tutorial. Are you aware if I am able to lock a file in the device, as in, it can be used by two people but each person can only access their own currency?!
Can someone tell me why ledger always changes your adress, after you get 1 transaction? And are old adresses still valid?
Dumb question - if you're buying crypto currency on an exchange like Coinbase, do you then just send that crypto currency to yourself to your hardware wallet for secure storage vs. storage on the currency exchange? Thank you.
Thomas, Yes. That is correct. I usually (In my ledger nano), copy my receive address to my clipboard then on the exchange paste the address where they want me specify where to send. When you copy and paste always double check to confirm you've pasted the correct address. I usually take a second to check just the first few characters and the last few characters if its just small amounts of crypto.
I want to order one but i am using canadian dollars and I am not sure how to pay if they have it in euro. can we convert the amount for "leger nano s" that's in euto to canadian dollar and pay with any of those three methods of payments that they have on their site?. would it work I haven't try ed it. anyone know?
how do i move my eth from coinbase to my ledger? thanks
Thank you for this great video! :)
Love your videos, keep it up!
Patrick Miller thank you! Will do 😊
What the "Amount" means under "recive bitcoin"? thanks
is there transaction fee for the transfer to and from ledger wallet?
What do I do if lose my hardware wallet
how do i transfer my bitcoin from coinbase to my Ledger nano? thanks
What are the fees when you send btc out to an exchange or anywhere? please share. Thanks!
this guy is a great teacher
Not really. Why would he wipe the device he just sent BTC to? WTF?
He resent it back OLC
is there a fee when uploading money to your ledger from copay?
Nice and simple video. I will definitely consider picking this up....pending one question?
Can you store other crypto currencies (like digibyte, etc.)
And what's the difference to a normal USB stick? Also, do I have to sync the whole 100+ GB blockchain onto that, or how does this work?
You technically could create a paper wallet via bitaddress.org, then encrypt it and put it on a thumb drive. I enjoy the convenience of this hardware - plug in and go. I can use it with my android phone as well, along with a good handful of compatible wallets. The thumb drive wouldn't be capable of that unless you essentially coded your own software.
You don't have to sync the whole blockchain. Ledger hosts servers with full copies of the blockchain. The same would be true of KeepKey, Trezor, etc, as well as most light-weight mobile clients like Copay and Mycelium. You're relying on their copy of the blockchain. If you don't trust them you can always run a node at home and verify yourself - though it would take some technical know-how.
Anybody know what the max amount of coins you can store on this ledger Nano?
None of these types of videos explain this process for altcoins like Ethos, Vechain, Quantstamp, Cardano. How do these work with a ledger nano s?
need something a little more explanatory. What was the google part about? Have to transfer to google to get to the device? don't understand. Seems like there was a process before this process. How many processes to actually get to the wallet?
Is Ledger Nano S supporting just those alt coins: Ethereum, Dash, Lite Coin, Dogecoin, Stratis and Zcash? If yes, where do I store my other alt coins like XEM, NEM, Siacoin etc.?
Miyum3 online wallets currently
Can I use this Legder bitcoin wallet also without the hardware? Meaning, is this also a software wallet?
No
But what if the wallet brakes or gets lost. How do u recover all this
Excuse me sir, Can you help me explain how to pair the ledger wallet with smartphone, i cannot do that, it suggest me to take a QR code, but in my computer, where is the My Qr code ???, i found that many btc address in ledger App(on my computer) when i received the btc from the other btc address. i dont know how to pair with my smartphone. thsk in advance
It very much depends on which app you are using. Here is a link to myself using my regular Ledger Nano on my phone with Mycelium. The process can vary from wallet to wallet (if it's available) but hopefully this helps.

Thanks for your helping
So question. Everyone says sending bitcoin is so cheap and that is a benifit, but why is it so expensive for me? I have sent money from purse to coin base and on a 100 dollar transaction its liek 30 bucks! What is going on?
Dont send from coin base send from GDAX. Oh a purse? like google wallet? Yikes yeah they probably dont have that set up so well yet.. go to your bank send a wire transfer cost 10$ and if you send it before 1130 am it will show up in coinbase later that evening. or you can send it through your bank the slower way sorry I for get the other name but it takes 4-5 days but it is free.
When sending funds Gdax
I believe it is 1.3% not 3% but even so 1.3% is still high i think for crypto.., paypal is 3% to receive and 5% to send out of the country, but you can send funds through paypal as friends/family for like 50 cent for around 1000 its how i send money to my factories in china to save the wire cost the bank charges me which is 50$ every time no matter the amount. Fucking banks have a license to steal..
Hi there : What happens, if the ledger nano gets lost ? Can you still get back your bitcoin or ether at some later time ?
Yes you can absolutely get your coins back. The easiest method is to get a new device, then input the 12 word phrase you've written down when setting up your original Ledger Nano S. This should recover all your funds.
Just wondering if I need to have my nano S plugged in the whole time when I want to send bits from another wallet, like hot wallet. Because if I choose the normal transaction fee, it tells me to wait like more than 60 mins
Once your transaction is on the network (which is fast) you can disconnect everything. "Waiting 60 minutes" is waiting for your transaction to be mined into a block and that happens without you.
ben .. i need your assistance .. i sent 3100 cardano from an exchange into myetherwallet address to store it into my nano ledger s.. unfortunately cardano isnt a erc20 token as it isnt on the erc20 token list.. now the issue is i have no idea where the cardanos went as it doesnt show on the list ... what should i do from here ? need help
so if you lose the ledge you just Need the 24 words to Import into a new ledger and all Bitcoins are safe again?
Correct :) They were never "unsafe" if your didn't had a note with your 24 words written on attached to it. ;)
Did I understand right 01:40 min? We'll be given a recovery phrase which is choosen by Ledger?
The recovery phrase that you're given is randomly generated by the device and not pre-determined by the company. Also the key will never leave the device even when you sign transactions - the device is able to mathematically prove that it holds your private key without ever sending it to your phone or computer.
Are you able to choose the 12 words or are you forced to accept 12 words that you're given by the device?
With this site you are given the 12 words, though I believe there are ways to choose the phrase yourself via alternative means. The thing is that there is a set list of acceptable words based on the method through which you create your wallet. Also sometimes choosing your own words may be less secure/easier for an attacker to guess.
Luv ur channel and am subcribed, have question,i bought nano s online but it arrived with no seal...what is to stop the sender from memorising the 24 word backup and using it against the new owner?
That's strange indeed. Where did you order your Nano S from?
When you plug the device in, it will give you the option to recover a wallet or start a new one. When you start a new one, this would be different from any wallet that had been previously used by the device IF someone has used it before.
That being said my only concern is that the device itself was tampered with. Knowing where it was ordered from might help me make a better judgement call though.
Hi Thank you for your reply.I bought it on Ebay and it came from the UK..there was a card in the box which says "did you notice there is no anti-tampering sticker on this box." are the nano s sent out without stickers now do you think?
Yes actually that is 100% the case. I do recall getting that with mine now that you say it.
Thanks for vidéo! from france :)
since this video, the nano s has started supporting a bunch of other coins. has your nano s been updated? how do you feel about a hardware wallet that requires/offers firmware updates? does that feel secure to you? what wallet would you use to hold your dash (via the nano s)?
Yes I updated my Nano S just last week and started playing around with the additional wallets. I quite like the update, though I had to put in my seed phrase again, which can be a bit of a pain.
I use the Chrome app to store my coins on the Nano S. I've also got Mycelium set up with it too.
thanks man, really appreciate the benefit your experience. have you tried the ledger blue yet? if so would you say it offers more enough in terms of functionality (rather than just looking good) to justify the price over the nano s?
This is one piece of hardware I'd love to get my hands on. I feel like it would be super convenient with the touch screen. I'll definitely do a video if I grab one!
So what happens if you lose/break the wallet
Thanks Bro!!!!
Im quite new on the hardware wallet, do any know if any coin are inside the usb wallet so i can log in to any computer with this wallet or is it just a log in device to one computer?
You can take it with you, but you will need to use the app to open it to send and receive people.
Hey! Im in Canada and was wondering if there are any local vendors you would suggest? Trying to avoid getting hit with crazy customs and duty as these ship from France from what I can see :/
WheelTheReal honestly even with the duties I've found the main website to be the best option. Every other vendor buys them from the same location and then resells them at a premium. Hopefully over time there will be more options.
Just ordered from the Ledger website, thanks for the quick response!
No problem!
How many currencies are supported ? Where can I get a list ?
there are up to 180, are you looking into investing?
Hi Ben, while you have cryptos stored on these devices, do their values still fluctuate with the present market? If so, wouldn't you run out of room if your cryptos were going up? Thx.
Hey David, yes the value would indeed still fluctuate. You can think of it as if you were to store a brick of gold somewhere. Even if you bury it in your backyard, the value of that gold can vary depending on supply & demand.
As far as running out of room, that could never happen. Your device could store any amount of cryptocurrency. It wouldn't make a difference if you had $5 of BTC or $20 billion.
Thanks Ben, appreciate your help. I just watched your video on paper wallets. Do I need to buy a separate computer just to create a paper wallet? I've got a nano s coming around june 23rd but would like to get some funds put into safety. Am I to assume that when these currencies are in a hard or paper wallet they can't be exchanged or day traded so to speak?
great video man
Thank you perfect and done!
Are the steps same with exchange Wallet?
You should have opted for the large size sunglasses.
