Well, nice video but due to the delay you get from going to far away from a BT-device while still being connectetd for a long distance this information is pretty missleading. I get serious delay when being 1,5 m away from my BT-adapter and facing away from it with the controller which is why I have to buy the Wireless Adapter.
Hi there! The Microsoft adapter is line of sight dependent, whilst Bluetooth isn't. That's why you're able to go all the way up while on bluetooth connection. I found your video while looking for information on how much occlusion the adapter could take. And to be honest, I'm quite satisfied with what I saw. You've put a couple walls between the controller and the receiver before it stopped. The range would probably be quite the same in an open space without any walls!

If anyone stumbles upon this comment... The wireless adapter may still be better for you. If you have the original controller then it won't work with bluetooth. If you have the new controller with the 3.5mm jack, the 3.5mm jack won't work with the bluetooth, only using the wireless adapter. Hope this helps someone down the line.
I bought the `Controller + Cable for Windows` last year, the box says it has built-in Bluetooth. Will it work? I don`t care about voice commands and stuff.
We need drivers so 3.5mm jack works with bluetooth. I think it can be done. Microsoft doesn't want you to have this functionality and make you buy microsoft wireless adapter instead.
i'M just amazed how Microsoft never complicates anything and always has the simplest solutions (like looking for 2.5mm audio adapter's when dealing with xbox 360 and headsets. ) so much fun too!!!! :)
Yes you can connect any version of Xbox one controller to PC using wireless adapter but to connect with Bluetooth you need Xbox one S(Xbox one X also, both the same) controller.
I don't understand how the hell you get that far with BT. I have a bluetooth adapter like that and I loose signal beeing a meter away with the same xbox controller. For me when it looses conection it loses it just for a bit and while it's not connected the last signal send is kept pressed, so I was spinning constantly I would not notice it, but in fast paste games I notice how I loose button presses and sometimes it keeps walking more than I wanted. Maybe you should test that more indeed since we don't know if the conection was perfect all trough the way up until your second floor.
From my response to another comment on this video: "Just letting you guys know, if a Bluetooth adapter is in or around a USB 3.0 port and the port has poor shielding, the interference will mess with the Bluetooth range and input lag. If an adapter is something like an Asus or Transcend then it is more than likely this issue as these are very strong Bluetooth adapters."
How does your controller get this long range? Mine starts working badly (still kind of works, but sometimes buttons/sticks stay pressed or do not register for a few seconds, and on rare occasions won't pair when turned on) about 1m from the actual Bluetooth adapter, and that's with two different Bluetooth adapters of non-crappy brands, that work fine and have good enough range with other devices. I now have a USB extension cord and the Bluetooth adapter lies right in front of my keyboard, because I could not play games reliably when the Bluetooth adapter was in my PC because of this appalling range. Now it works but it looks stupid.
1st: very useful, thx! 2nd: Do you notice any difference in *lag* between wireless adapter (wa) and bluetooth (bt). 3rd: The xbox1s controller has 3.5mm jack right? Does it work on both connections? And does it work with all sound from windows or only in-game?
Hi , tnx for this interesting test . I found the same or very similar BT dongle and my question is how works , have you experienced any problems , lag , disconnecting ? Thanks
distance test is meaningless to pro and semi pro gaming. what matters in wireless gaming is: _latency_, and _latency variance_ latency: how long b4 my machine receives my clicks, button presses etc etc, this is around 1-2 mili seconds for wired gaming mouse/keyboard, and around 20 ms for bluetooth mouse/keyboard latency variance: this is the real deal breaker for wireless gaming in games that need rapid player response. occasionally a wireless packet is lost or corrupted and has to be re-transmitted, this is where latency of that particular player action (again key press, stick movement etc etc..... ) can spike to 50-150 ms, and thus your enemy kills you before you kill them even tho you shot first and the computer simply did not receive the data. in wired mouse, keyboard the chance of such data loss corruption is extremely small, perhaps never. in wireless at least 10 % of transmitted packets are lost and have to be re transmitted. i'd like 2 know more details about the underlying link layer technology of the MS dongle. if the ms dongle uses a different freq and signaling technology that lowers latency and increases noise tolerance (perhaps by transmitting lots and lots of error correcting codes) that dongle could be a vast improvement on the Bluetooth dongle for gaming. or its possible that the ms dongle is some stupid shit similar to bluetooth.
Hi, I haven't used the Bluetooth much but they both appear to work well for the time that I have used them. Personally I prefer the windows adaptor because you can sync up to 8 controllers or 4 controllers and 4 headsets and if I want to play split screen then I still need to use the windows adapter because I only have the one Bluetooth controller so I need to use another older Xbox One controller which will only work wired or with the windows adapter. Even if you had 2 Bluetooth controllers I think at present you can only sync up one using Bluetooth but I presume this will change over the coming months. Sorry I don't know the specs on the latency. Thanks.
I don't want to be a vinegar pisser, but the only thing is tested is the range till the connection get dropped. There is a big difference to range and a playable game without to much input lag. The official dongle has a much much better latency, on Bluetooth there is too much lag to play a game normally from a distance. I guess that the original dongle uses 5Ghz instead of the 2Ghz Bluetooth.
I've bought two BT dongles (Asus and Transcend) and both had shitty performance in terms of range and most importantly in terms of input lag. Controller was totally laggy (>1 sec) when I was at 5 meters or further form the dongle. So I've bought the adapter, I hope it will fix the problem.
Just letting you guys know, if a Bluetooth adapter is in or around a USB 3.0 port and the port has poor shielding, the interference will mess with the Bluetooth range and input lag. Thanks to this man. I'm planning to buy the windows adapter to try the headset jack on my controller but after watching this, I have a doubt whether if it's necessary to me or not.
I use my controller with a Bluetooth adapter however I like to use my Bluetooth headphones at the same time. When I do this theres a huge input lag of 500ms to 1 second. If I switch my headphones to aux and keep the controller on Bluetooth it's okay unless you make a sudden movement which creates some input lag or holds your input for too long. I play a lot of Forza Motorsport and the brake, accelerator or turning can get stuck. It seems Bluetooth doesn't have enough bandwidth for the high quality sound from Forza as well as the controller input. Might have to try getting the Microsoft adapter and keep my headphones on Bluetooth and see if that works. Oh, also if the controller doesn't have problems over Bluetooth, the headphones quality drops immensely.
Weird, for me the BT doesnt even make it to the next room while the xbox adapter and a 8bitdo adapter make it through the whole apartment. Is it because you have a good 5.0 BT adapter?
Thank you for this. Hopefully, I don't have to buy a $50 license to virtualhere. Edit: the Bluetooth dongle I got from Amazon (4.5 star reviews) doesn't travel nearly as far as the newer version of the Xbox wireless adapter.

I know of two benefits: 1) The xbox controller has a built in headphone jack. If you have the adapter, you can use this on your PC for audio. If you're using bluetooth, the headphone jack will not work as I imagine the bitrate is not high enough. In either case, you can always just use the PC for audio. 2) You can only connect one controller via bluetooth. If you want more than one, you must get the adapter.
Very Helpful thanks. I'm going to setup game streaming around my house from my windows PC and use one of these controllers, I'll get a bluetooth adaptor rather than the microsoft one to connect the controller back to the PC.
Yeah it will provide you some range while connecting through Bluetooth which forms more people isn't useless but it's misses features like. xbox website recommend to connect only about single controller via Bluetooth and you won't be able too use headsets and stuff while connecting through Bluetooth and new version of wireless adapter issue very sleek like 60% smaller as compared to original adapter so on my opinion on should grab the adapter. But just for casual gaming Bluetooth is fine who like to play on Mac book or laptop..
Hi man, Listen I just bought an xbox controller to play on my pc but unfortunately my pc does not have Bluetooth. What would you suggest me to buy to play with it on my pc?
Interesting, but whats the point ? Why would you need that much range when you're in your house at the other end, but the Xbox is still on the opposite side ? If it would work 3 - 5 meters, thats fine. More noone is away from his Xbox, and actually using it. So not sure what this test will accomplish.
The point could be game streaming. A raspberry pi, or android box with moonlight streams the game from the windows PC to another room. That device might not be compatible with the controller so the controller connects wirelessly to the windows PC.
That's one hell of a bluetooth stick, mine only goes about 10 meters or so :( (gotta admit it's the cheapest usb blietooth i found). but i just got the pc adaptor v2 from MS and im curious to what the range on that is
Placing the adapter in a USB port at the front of the PC without any obstructions will yield greater distances for connectivity and reliability than if you have your PC tucked in the corner or under the table and the adapter in one of the rear ports.
@@rachmatzulfiqar I ended up buying the adapter and it's flawless. I had occasional issues with my laptop and the xbox one controller. It seems my laptop has qualcomm BT 4.1. HOWEVER, and this is the bit that confuses me.. My SN30 Pro and DualShock 4 never, ever have the same lag issues as the xone controller does with BT on the very same laptop. So I am lost as to why, but either way, that's how I do it now. Official microsoft adapter for xone controller, BT for DS4 and SN30 pro+. BTW, what was happening with the xone controller was stuck or delayed inputs if i was moving the d pad fast up and down through a game menu, for example. I played right through STEEP with my PS4 controller on the PC, i had it at HD/ultra settings, the laptop was working hard, I had about 114 FPS average, and no delayed inputs to speak of.. I mean if there was going to be a problem it would be when the video card and cpu are working hard I would think.
BTW the BT is 2.4 ghz isn't it? My wireless connection for internet is 5ghz always.. there's nothing else I can think of in the house that would cause interference. Maybe if I connected the wireless at 2.4 but this new modem only even has a 5GHZ mode from what I can tell. Whenever I check killer control center it has never, ever been connected via 2.4g, and only the one network shows up as an option to connect to. With the previous modem, it would give the network name twice, once for 5G and once for 2.4G and you could pick which one you wanted. I also use BT controllers all the time with my switch and I can't recall one single issue in 2.5 years with my pro controller(s) and switch ever. I also use an older SN30 with switch and the official nintendo snes bluetooth controllers for switch online.
Hi Guys, I just bought the Xbox One Bluetooth controller (with the 3.5MM jack if it makes any difference) and an ASUS BT400 Bluetooth adapter. I want to use my Beats Studio Wireless 3 and the controller over Bluetooth to my pc but I'm getting a lot of input lag on the controller and noise drop on the headphones. Any had any experience with trying to do this and have any suggestion? When I plug the headphones in and use the controller over Bluetooth it seems fine. Cheers Guys!
A person is never going to be using a controller that far away, and once you get to about half the max distance of Bluetooth the latency gets really bad to the point it's unusable. The Microsoft adapter has better latency in general within it's operating range. Also Bluetooth suffers from frequent disconnects and is not as stable of a connection as the Microsoft wireless technology... this was the main reason why I switched from Bluetooth to the Microsoft adapter.
Good Day So i hear that when you use the xbox one s controller with PC and when connected via Bluetooth, controllers 3.5 mm jack doesn't output the sound. But where as when the controller is connected via the adapter. .does the 3.5 mm jack output the sound ? Please test and let me know sir.
Ive been using the old controller via the dongle and the audio through the controller works great. Ill be trying the new S controller tomorrow with both bluetooth and dongle.
yes you have to make sure you have the newer version of the Xbox One controller.... the newer models have Bluetooth built in it will connect with your BT on your pc or a BT dongle... the older Xbox One controllers don't have BT built in which you would then need the dongle for windows specifically for the controller

I have the Asus Bt400 bt adapter for windows and it supports vibration, audio, latency is great and it has long range compatibility
is there any performance difference other than range?? does one feel slower than the other??
Very Helpful thanks. I'm going to setup game streaming around my house from my windows PC and use one of these controllers, I'll get a bluetooth adaptor rather than the microsoft one to connect the controller back to the PC.
did you find a workaround?
which uses more battery?
I get huge micro stuttering and after unplayable using the latest bluetooth usb adaptor so now wired all the time
great video! i noticed a slight latency in response, going with the bluetooth option. i think it is still wise to use the wireless adapter :)
Will any usb bluetooth 4.0 dongle work?
Don't most PCs have Bluetooth built in?
no, most PC's don't have BT... Laptops mostly have it standard built-it
most desktop PCs do not have bluetooth built-in.
I thought so, until I noticed the connection will break after half a metre distance. Didn't do shit
What do I need to use any Bluetooth headset to chat on Xbox one x do I need a Bluetooth adapter like in ur video?
Hi man, Listen I just bought an xbox controller to play on my pc but unfortunately my pc does not have Bluetooth. What would you suggest me to buy to play with it on my pc?
Claudio S Puskas almost any usb bluetooth adapter 4.0
Link For This Product Of Bluetooth Adapter
Interesting, but whats the point ? Why would you need that much range when you're in your house at the other end, but the Xbox is still on the opposite side ? If it would work 3 - 5 meters, thats fine. More noone is away from his Xbox, and actually using it. So not sure what this test will accomplish.
The point could be game streaming. A raspberry pi, or android box with moonlight streams the game from the windows PC to another room. That device might not be compatible with the controller so the controller connects wirelessly to the windows PC.
price
Nice vid thanks
That's one hell of a bluetooth stick, mine only goes about 10 meters or so :( (gotta admit it's the cheapest usb blietooth i found). but i just got the pc adaptor v2 from MS and im curious to what the range on that is
Placing the adapter in a USB port at the front of the PC without any obstructions will yield greater distances for connectivity and reliability than if you have your PC tucked in the corner or under the table and the adapter in one of the rear ports.
Wait... Are you playing Minecraft PC with a controller? HOW?
Gerard Ferrer 4 months late lol, but it's the Win10 Edition
Oof

Would latency be lower on the dedicated usb dongle? I am only a foot from my laptop in any case.
There would be no perceivable delay, but, Bluetooth (prior to 5.0) have a serious interference issue with other radio signal, resulted in delay,
@@rachmatzulfiqar I ended up buying the adapter and it's flawless.
Hey. Does the rumble work on both adapters? Thanks.
Yes
sometimes i get input lag with bluetooth, i think if xbox receiver would be better
Does this work while plugged into an xbox?
Yours walls must be just plasterboard mine are brick and booth Bluetooth and windows adapter don't even go through the wall into the next room
Very helpful, thank you!
is it normal for the adapter to get hot when you use the controller with the adapter
It is.. all usb 3 ports do get hotter then usb 2.0
Bluetooth adapter will it work if you plug it in the xbox cuz my xbox is far from my xbox and my controller disconnects very easily
No
But sadly the bluetooth connection do not support audio output from controller
Hi Guys,
I just bought the Xbox One Bluetooth controller (with the 3.5MM jack if it makes any difference) and an ASUS BT400 Bluetooth adapter.
Microsoft makes this wirless controller with pc situation so complicated if you not using their own adapter
What Bluetooth was that?
are you using the first generation Xbox onr controller ore the one s one ?
A person is never going to be using a controller that far away, and once you get to about half the max distance of Bluetooth the latency gets really bad to the point it's unusable.
The Microsoft adapter has better latency in general within it's operating range.
Also Bluetooth suffers from frequent disconnects and is not as stable of a connection as the Microsoft wireless technology... this was the main reason why I switched from Bluetooth to the Microsoft adapter.
Good Day
So i hear that when you use the xbox one s controller with PC and when connected via Bluetooth, controllers 3.5 mm jack doesn't output the sound. But where as when the controller is connected via the adapter. .does the 3.5 mm jack output the sound ? Please test and let me know sir.
Ive been using the old controller via the dongle and the audio through the controller works great.
Ill be trying the new S controller tomorrow with both bluetooth and dongle.
DManVI Thanks. Can you try the S controller without the dongle and see if there is audio output through the controller..
I haven't tried it but I read somewhere on the internet that audio output is not supported if connected via Bluetooth.
Bro can I use this controller with my inbuilt Bluetooth in my laptop
yes you have to make sure you have the newer version of the Xbox One controller.... the newer models have Bluetooth built in it will connect with your BT on your pc or a BT dongle... the older Xbox One controllers don't have BT built in which you would then need the dongle for windows specifically for the controller
Hmm, I didn't know it worked with a Bluetooth dongle and they are cheaper and have better range than the windows adapter so, that's s Bluetooth win.
It has to be an Xbox One S controller. The original Xbox One controller does not have bluetooth
what version of blutooth is required for my xboxone s controller? and wht version do u have?
what's the point of it ? Usually, when I play, I'm close enough to the screen to see it :D
I got my PC and TV in two different rooms, connected with a long cable, so this matters to me.
anyone know how many ms the controller transmits?
My range is about 3-4cm :(
funny, me BT loses connection when i lean back in my PC chair haha.
If he Xbox adaptor uses 5GHz then it's not surprising the range is lower.
and here I can't keep mine connected on Bluetooth 5 feet away 🤷♀️
thanks mate
yo i’m gonna need the name of that bluetooth adapter asap
I bought a win 10 adapter for my Xbox controller and I shit you not my pc is under my desk and the signal can not get through it!!! It's the biggest rip-off ever if it's not practically touching the thing it will un sync every now and again and past 2 meters it's totally gone if you put a piece of paper between it! well done Microsoft on yet another scam product!
i don't get it why woud i pay 25$ for an adapter even though i can connect with bloetooth and its better?
because you can use the Audio Output for your Headphones on your Controller with the Microsoft Adapter.
@@royschulz8153 no ,you can do it with bluetooth I mean use audio output. But the main purpose of wireless Adapter the input lag and delay especially when you connect more than one controller
your test was not good because when I lost signal the last mouvement a make stai in the game
I worry about latency not range
Give SPECIAL THANKS TO YOUR DAUGHTER.
Brad Shoemaker would be proud
i have xbox one s joystick and i connect with pc that run any blutooth 2.0 are 3.0 are 4.0 any blutooth divce connect are must buy 4.0
I have a z270e mother board and mine will only work from a foot away
bluetooth is inconsistent
dude will it work on windows 10 pirated
MR EXTINCT 69 sure
And you gave your daughter a herder job which is looking at a screen that keeps rotating..
This is some bullshit I'm sitting in front of my PC with my adapter and controller disconnects I turn away from it lol oh the difference between company products
