lol im betting you're not very experienced when it comes to singing. he is definitely not faking. his voice was softened by the performance, which is why it was better after and he was clearly resting beforehand which is why it was rough at the start. it is entirely possible to pull off a performance like that after losing your voice to the extent that he did, it just takes work.
