First year homeschooling, but morning songs to get up for school last year was “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” or “Walking on Sunshine.” Id top it off with my singing along and dancing. It really brightened them up and made them smile😊
Today was our first homeschool day of the year. The kids were excited. We started school later than usual. It when we started, we did Bible reading and verse of the week. They did well. For me, it's starting that I'm like 🥱 And then I'm not sure of what to do next. I like the song idea. I started playing a Bible reading by Justin Peters in the morning. I play worship music in the mornings. I think it would be nice to play a specific song and then start school....
That’s literally the song I sing to my kids to wake them up almost every day 😂🙌 They’re motivated to get up so that I don’t start dancing and sing the song in its entirety 🤣
The song idea is a good one Pam! My biggest obstacle is getting myself going. I find having a good sleep the night before, and eating a good breakfast always helps with that!
I have an only child he's 8. And he is a super reluctant formal learner. Our mornings never go as planned.... I'm always trying to find the right plan. These are great suggestions and I have some new ideas thank you!
I’d say my biggest struggle is being consistent myself. Our song could be… Best day of my life.. although I don’t recommend the music video the song itself is upbeat and fun
Hi Pam. Thank you for the wonderful content. I'm definitely going to play the song and introduce the morning basket. 2nd year homeschooling with 3 kids. My daughter is 14 and my twin boys are 11. They are definitely the biggest challenge. Crying most days which I'm trying to stop and when I was searching UA-cam, I found your channel. I'll be sure to watch more of your videos. Thank you very much! God bless.
When you were talking about adding delight, I thought-I should put music on, and then you said that for number 3! My boys draaaaag their feet to start the homeschool day. They love music, so we’ll see if that helps.
Thank you for this video!! I have a 17yo, 8yo, & 7yo and we just started our 8th year of homeschooling. I never thought to start with music! My 17yo is independent in everything and is gone working most days, but my 7yo & 8yo I've struggled the last couple of years on getting a good morning routine down with them. My issue is neither child wakes up at the same time each day. I tend to let them sleep for as long as their bodies need, but then I struggle with getting school started if we start late(10am) and feel like I'm trying to play catch up the rest of the day. I've tried to do mornings where we start a family subject(History) together. I've tried doing school with the kid that wakes up first and getting their schoolwork out of the way. I just can't figure out a good routine.
Yes! To tip #2. We're starting each day with our morning meeting (telling what we accomplished yesterday and what we hope to accomplish today) and then our read aloud. I'll have to try tip #3. 🙄
I just shared the "morning songs" idea with my 9 year old and he thought that sounded "kewl". LOL!! We are at the end of a short summer break. We'll start our morning SONGS and lessons on Monday.
We use Andrew Peterson’s “Little Boy Heart Alive” because I have two little boys & it’s a long(ish) song! We’ve been doing those tips for the past year, so when my five year old overheard your video he said, “This is blowing my mind right now!” 😂Even he knows these tips are amazing!
I have just one child I'm teaching, the other is 1yr old. We will be starting 1st grade next month. I'm excited but nervous because we just finished Kindergarten at the beginning of the month, and it was such a struggle because my child has difficulty focusing and sitting still for even just an hour which is usually how long the school days were. For my playlist I think I'd choose upbeat Christian songs or songs that both my child and I like to sing/dance to.
It is a tough time. Just keep lessons short 15 mins max. And you may not get through an entire lesson in a day, but keeping them short builds that habit of attention and means that they will get more done in the shorter time. Make it gradually longer as they get older.
Playlists. I have amazon music on my phone and use that. We are currently into Toby Mac and David Crowder and listen to a few of those in the morning. Yesterday I threw in MC Hammer, "Pray" Lol. What else do you create playlists for?
We’re very routined and we do start with math 😬😬😬. The younger likes math, the older loathes it 🤦🏼♀️. I found if we pushed math later, the older would do everything he could to try and get out of it, so we do swallow that frog first. I did start implementing the timer method and that helped with both of mine🙌🏻🙌🏻. Going to hop on the playlist! Zippity do dah is a must for our crew, Bulletproof, and 🤔🤔.... I’m thinking I may need to change our playlist quarterly. Always ❤️ your ideas!! Thanks for the great advice!
Glad you found what works best for you. Honestly we typically do math first AFTER Morning Time. So once MT sets the disposition for the day then we do get the math done. Love your song idea.
I thought getting math out of the way would work great for us. That was a flop! Now, I let my son choose which subject to start with each day. Love the song idea.
I tried this awhile ago and dropped the ball and stopped. We’re going to give it a retry. I have an almost 8 year old and an almost 1 year old. So we’re doing This is the Day that the Lord has Made and Jesus Loves Me. It’ll be about 5 minutes. ❤️👍🏻
My kids are 5, 7 and 9. Two can’t read and the oldest needs a lot of help with his studies. It takes SO long. Am I just in a season where it’s going to take a long time to get our work done, or am I doing something wrong. It seems to take up all morning to get just two subjects done with three kids I’m not even doing full lessons of math and language arts.
Thanks for the suggestion, I did not know about Masterbooks. Since I already own all the coriculum through grade 6 I think we are going to have smaller chunks- lots of breaks like you said.
Always have end with math the very last thing we do.. Currently the toddler and 6 yr old is wrecking pure havack on morning time....and a short few months a new baby will add a whole new disaster... morning time has not been enjoyable past couple days😭
What song would you use to start your homeschool day?
"Good Morning" by Mandisa
I said I was going to start playing Rise And Shine (Children of the Lord)

I’m needing to work on these. None of us are morning people!
I do play the Greatest Showman soundtrack in the morning!

You got this!
Thank you! 😁
The song/playlist is great idea!! I hate being a “yelling mom”!!! It does make you feel icky inside!! Thanks for ideas!
We start with Hosanna by Paul Baloche. It's 7 minutes long and the lyrics are just perfect for morning.
I’d say my biggest struggle is being consistent myself. Our song could be… Best day of my life.. although I don’t recommend the music video the song itself is upbeat and fun

Love the song or playlist as a transition/count down of sorts to begin the school day.

Oh Happy Day! Nice and loud! And looking for advice on moody gloomy teenage boys 😋
Food?? Moody teen boys are a tough animal. Oh and be impervious. www.scholesisters.com/ss31/

Love it! We use playlists for chores too. We call it a chore boogie and try to race the music and get done before the songs are over!
Nice and easy to implement tips!
Do you have a playlist of songs somewhere? (If you answer this in the video forgive me. It was a couple weeks ago I watched it.)
My kids come running for “Doxology/O Shout for Joy” from Getty Kids Hymnal so they can dance before we begin our Bible reading :-)
I love the sign that is hanging on the wall! Where did you purchase it?

Yes! 🙌🏻🙌🏻

Yes! My kids can choose from the list . Two out of three choose the math but at least the choice is theirs.

T Michelle math tips would be great!
Sarah... have you tried Masterbooks? A gentle approach.... it takes us about 2-3 hours and we're done! Good luck! 😁😁
Thanks for the suggestion, I did not know about Masterbooks.

I am sorry. Keep it so, so short right now. It will change again.
