I was looking true your old videos yeasterday trying to find exactly this type of video because I’m repairing a 5Ah battery myself and couldn’t figure out how to take the casing apart over the cells. What are the odds. Thank you so much for this kind of videos doctor! Hello from Sweden
I appreciate that you did your best to spot weld. Don't you think you went a bit crazy with the spot welds? If ever you would have to replace cells (and that is to be expected after 2 failed), it will be a pita to separate the cells. also, from my experience, I found that pulling out the welded tabs is a hit or miss (mostly miss). I would recommend grinding the spots until you release them.
Hello fellow "doctor". I think you acidentally gave me some more proof that makita batteries might be made in the same factory as Shimano steps Ebike batteries! Those lilac isolators rings are orange on Shimano but that is not something two factories accidentally manufacture! I know shimano dont make their own batteries, but does anyone know if Makita does? Has anyone investigated this yet? ALSO have another look at the bad cells, one is seriouslly dented, just discovered something similar in an old Hilti battery just today (Swedish audio, about 3min in): ua-cam.com/video/AILmhpmJn4E/v-deo.html
Thank you for getting in touch. I was unable to view your video as the video was listed as private. It could figure that batteries are made for other companies in facilities such as Makita use. It happens in many industries as manufacturing facilities are expensive to get up and running. Its cheaper for smaller companies to gey bigger ones to manufacturer things in their factory and it is another revenue stream for the bigger company. Stay in touch great to hear from another battery doctor.
