  • This week we are joined by Tes Randle Jolly, a world class wildlife photographer that specializes in wild turkeys. This lady is a lifelong hunter and practically lives with a flock of birds each spring while witnessing behaviors that we as hunters often miss. She also manages her farm to the nth degree to make her turkeys and other wildlife feel welcome. It’s a fascinating conversation and we all learned something. It’s a long one, but trust us, it’s a good one. Listen Learn and Enjoy.

I went to New Mexico to train under a retired Govt. trapper. We were on 15000 acres. He had trapped it for 20 years. We only caught 1 Kit Fox in 4 checks. We did see a coyote running through the ranch. There were 3 variety of quail everywhere. Lots of them. I commented on their numbers and he said the lack of coyotes was the key. He stated, your ground nesting birds are on eggs at the same time that puppies are being weaned in the den. He said that coyotes will target nest specifically because of the eggs. They eat them and regurgitate in the den for the pups. Just wanted to add coyotes to her list of fur bearers targeting nests. When did we lose quail? When coyotes were really becoming prevalent in MS.
