Also you did a nice job with the sound quality of your video... Mixing the music with the sounds of the build, not relying on music alone. I really appreciate that. It helps me. Lots of times when music is added people skip the talking. Anyway I'm sure it took some effort to mix properly, so i wanted to say it's appreciated!!
Wow thank you for such a nice comment! I am glad the video was helpful for you. I also prefer when creators talk about their process during the build as well. Cheers!
If you don’t know already, please stay up on your transmission maintenance with regular fluid changes at 30000 miles. I have a 2003 and a 2017 Odyssey. Used the 03 until the transmission reminded me that I shouldn’t be more than AAA would tow me home. The 17 has been cross country ( from the east coast,USA) multiple times- car camping all the way-we are out for 2-3 months at a time. Great way to see things. Good job and good luck with your travels.
Thanks for the thoughtful comment. Yes I’ve heard that the transmissions on these vehicles are usually the first to go. I keep it well maintained and this is kind of a trial run for the next camper, so if the transmission fails then it’s onto bigger and better things! 😅
I have the exact van. So fun to see the custom builds. Have fun and log your adventures to share with us. Hoping for a good summer to use my Honda Odyssey camper van. 👍🏼🥰👍🏼
I just picked up a 2010 Odyssey (gen 3) that I want to set up for a few month long road trip. Just living in it and touring the country. Great vid, good ideas
Amazing to hear! They are great cars, just make sure you stay up to date with your transmission maintenance since they are notorious for having transmission issues.
I have the exact same van, although it's not yet turned into a camper, it's wonderful to see what it can potentially do. So far I have slept in the van many times on a 27" wide folding bed, and a regular twin mattress, it was a great experience! Thank you for the demo, I think I will do a same one day!
Hey, thanks for this. I like that you show your work! I have a similar van an 07 that i have similar designs planned for a bed/couch. It's helpful to see someone actually building this thing out instead of showing only what's already done.
That was an awesome video! So many of them are pretty boring like where they keep the cans of beans and where they keep their books... I love the bungees, carribiners, self fashioned s hook, pvc, paracord! Just slick stuff dude!
Wow thank you so much for such a thoughtful comment! I'm glad you appreciated my attention to detail. It's fun to be able to make a design that's perfectly suited for your needs. Cheers friend!
Great callout! So far I did have one area that needed to be repaired, but that was because the wood shifted because of the gas strut. Otherwise it's holding up good!
I have a 2007 Odyssey that I just have the back seats folded down. I knew there had to be a way to get them out so I could have some more storage. I don't have the tools, nor the skill set, especially being disabled, to be able to do this work I'm forced to be living in my Odyssey van that I just was able to purchase at a cheap price, and needs a ton of work.
If it's not too much trouble for you would you kindly tell me the dimension of the inner space? I am talking about width and length and height (up to the window and also to the ceiling) from the back of the front seats so that I can figure out how much belongings I can carry. I am trying to buy a Honda Odyssey to live in a van. Thank you!
Hey unfortunately I don't have those measurements off hand, but if I remember correctly, the storage height under the bed platform is between 7-10 inches and the top of the bed cushion to the roof is about 34". Also, my van's transmission recently gave out on me, so I am looking to sell the bed platform. Would you be interested in buying it? It will fit easily into any second generation Odyssey. I would also be happy to sell the car itself if you're willing to put in the time / money to get the repairs done. Let me know!
@@nolangordin too bad that the transmission gave out; good luck for the bigger and better things you mentioned elsewhere in the comments! I'm north of the border and way off to the East so I'm not interested in either, but may I please know the approximate cost of materials on your build?
I have a Honda Odyssey Camper I'm going to convert into a camper van . . . I'm wondering where you store a spare tire? I'm concerned about getting stuck out in the boonies somewhere without a spare? Awesome video, thanks so much for posting!
Thanks for the comment! In my generation of Odyssey (2nd gen) the spare tire is stored in a compartment under the floor which can be accessed from inside just behind the front two seats. I've seen that space be repurposed for storage, but I opted to keep my spare there for the same reason as you! Good luck with your conversion!
Mine(07 exl) bolts on to the side of the driver's side rear wall... Perfect location cuz it doesn't block line of vision whilst driving. It came that way, but I know others have it in the floor of the van... It should be easy enough to create a hole to bolt it into the wall even if it wasn't made that way.... I feel like it creates a unique sort of decorating....
I’m preparing to remove the passenger seat from my Odyssey and I suggest you consider doing that. I expect to mount a custom rack that will hold my auxiliary power unit, 12V fridge, and maybe a microwave oven. That seat is useless and it occupies a ton of space…
Thanks for the comment. Thats a great idea and I'm sure that will add a ton of extra room, but I don't think my girlfriend would appreciate it haha good luck with the build!
Wow this is pretty smart how you did the bed in 3 parts instead of 4 parts, and even created 2 options to sit without much work, I was wondering, do you have the measurements of the 3 bed panels?
Hey, thanks for the comment! I don't have measurements off hand since I just kind of measured as I went, but I was able to build it in such a way that all three panels of foam for the mattress were the same dimensions, and the mattress that I bought was a full that I cut about 6 inches off the side. I hope that helps!
@@nolangordin Thank u so much, that is what I figured yes. But I was wondering about the 'Length' of each of the 4 wooden panel pieces. I understand that the total length of all of them together is 75 or 72 inches?
@@abrahammeulenberg5389 Yes that's correct, the full length of the bed is 75". That said, each of the three wooden panels are slightly different lengths to allow for the three foam panels to overlay each other correctly when the different couch arrangements are set up. So each panel is roughly 25" x 48" or so.
This is exactly what I’m trying to do to my 02 odyssey! Is there any way you could share what tools & parts I’d need so I have everything in one stop to home depot? I just need to know wood sizes, equipment needed and names of parts used to complete setup! 🙏
So glad to hear that you're planning a similar build. I wish I had a cut list to share, but I ended up mostly measuring and cutting on the fly, so I wasn't as organized as I would like to be. Hopefully between a single sheet of ply, a couple 2x4s and some hardware, you should be able to replicate something similar. Best of luck!
Thank you! Yes, it's probably more comfortable than my bed at home. I found some cushion covers on amazon and they worked great. The link is in the video description if you want to pick some up.
I cant believe your rear seatbelts at 13:33 lol they are actually more illegal than having none! The driver is responsible for all passengers safety and in an accident, they would possibly cause more or greater injuries than no seatbelts. You also cannot legally carry passengers on that home built hinged seat. Not trying to be a "Kill Joy" but I thought I might let you know this fact just in case you were not aware and before you go taking any rear seat passengers.
Ah yes I definitely recognize that they are not ideal or as safe as the original seatbelts, but I hope they will prevent passengers from flying through the windshield if I get in an accident. More than anything actually, I’m worried about passengers being unable to get the seatbelts off if the car rolls! Hopefully it will never be a problem! 🤞
I was hoping to get a decent idea before just turning my center row of seats backward. Literally, I can do what you have now with the stock seats and just lay sideways. I guess back to hunting for a decent idea before I start tomorrow.
I cut them just to the right size of the window so that they just slide into the trim of the windows and they hold themselves up. The back window ended up falling a bit, so I ended up adding some suction cups to that one. Here are the ones I used: amzn.to/3ZWzxak
