    Update, One of the coons did finally figure out how to climb up on the table, but he did not try to take the bowl this time.

      Yeah, I was thinking the raccoons would climb up there, but great solution to keep out possums & get the cats to not be such hogs.

      @@Jackie371 that one is all I ever seen get up there. I don't know if they decided it was to much trouble or if the rest couldn't figure it out but they stopped coming around and so did the possums for the most part.

      I was waiting for them to get up there if I told you you wouldn't believe what I had to do to keep coons away from ky aunt feeder...but I feed the cats during the day all food comes up at 7pm...thats it no more until day break when all the critters are asleep.the feeder will dispense food...nonore skunks,coons or possums

    Thank you for sharing this! We may want to steer clear of sharing onions with kitties, as they are toxic to them. Thank you for caring for them ❤.

    I know it's different for everyone, but I have trained my ferals to only eat in the morning (partly so neighbors don't see and report). I clean up about an hour after putting their food out and so it's never there in the evening when racoons might come around.

    Those raccoons and opossum sure love to eat….they’re so cute and sweet tho’. Thanks for the idea to keep the rain off and allow cats full visibility.

    I have the same problem. With coons and other animals that come in our yard trying to eat my cat's food... and it's driving me crazy. So I have to take my cats food and water bowls and bring them inside everyday before dark. Because no matter what you do them raccoons get into anything

    I use a plastic folding table and gives no room for claws to get a hold in to pull themselves up.

      Yep, I think that would work better for sure. I used what I had and it's done pretty good overall, still get a few who manages to climb up but nowhere near the issue I had when it was just sitting on the floor.

    This is Fantastic! But, if you decide to make another 1, Cats only need a 6" Hole, which is Far Smaller that the Girth of a Raccoon. So the Hole Size could add an Extra Level of Protection to their Food. 😁 Good Job!!!

    • @LifeWithChase
      @LifeWithChase  2 роки тому +1

      I cut the hole so big because I figured they like to be aware of their surroundings, I know I do.😃 With the hole so big they can jump straight through if something came up behind them and not feel cornered. I did have a couple smart coons get to it eventually and one possum but that's not bad for as long as it's been out.

    i have a tall metal patio table but the legs are so to where the raccons would gain footing, so how could I attach metal sheeting or laminate around a metal table top? it is tall enough to work THX everyone I am in a battle with the racoons and the starving feral kitten is SKIN AND BONES

    I’ve had the same problem, with possums. Tonight I’m just using a similar table and no bucket (it’s on my porch so no rain worries). Hopefully the possum can’t find its way onto the table.

    • @gingerclark4401
      @gingerclark4401 3 роки тому +3

      Update: I’ve just watched the possum spend at least 45 minutes trying to get to the table top. He can’t! Success so far. I had to fight my inside cat for space at the window watching the possum! 😂

      Update: Possums (ended up with two) have gone away. They never made it onto the table. Last night, I had a new visitor - Rocky Raccoon. 😳 Rocky apparently had no trouble getting on the table. I’m hoping I can teach the porch kitty to eat during daylight hours, because I’m afraid soon a group of skunks will show up. I’ve seen one on my doorbell camera when I first installed it. Possums and raccoons are one thing but skunks are OUT.

    Do you think if I can find a used patio table like that it would work with my raccoons I don’t really have a problem with the possums but the raccoons I do!

    • @LifeWithChase
      @LifeWithChase  2 роки тому +1

      I had a few smart coons figure out how to get up there by being tall enough to reach the table top and hook their paws in the mesh and pull themselves up. I wonder if a plastic table may work better because they couldn't hook their paws into it I don't think. This has done fairly good for me though since I already had the table...

      @@pamdavis9077 idk probably depends on how it's made. Maybe sheet metal wrapped around with small screws in the back, or some type of construction adhesive, or maybe large zip ties around. Might have to just experiment and see what seems to be the best fit...

    • @AraClaire

      While it is tempting to feed Racoons and Possums, if it is done regularly it can actually cause them to become dependent and eventually forget how to effectively forge for their own food. They can also become quite destructive if they have been getting food regularly and you suddenly stop. Not to mention, encouraging raccoons and possums to your property with food always draws coyotes...putting your outdoor cats in mortal danger.
