Also of Lebanon and highly recommended: Souhail Kaspar...incredible. I had not heard of Misirli Ahmet, so I thank you for the referral...really enjoyed what I heard. I'll look up Onur il, now.
Rony Barrak was voted as the best precussionist and darbuka player in the world, Thats for your own infos, here he is just playing what he has to play not free style or arabic rythms
Hiya folks - does anyone know the make of tabla Rony is playing here please? Also - I have to say different nationalities have different styles on this drum. Surely it's in the ear of the beholder? Personally I think this a very tasteful and musical solo...
Lots of common rhytms but yeah different styles/tastes across countries. Rony Barack sounds a bit "out there", I don't think his performance represents Lebanese folklore. The following is common in lebanon, rhytmic, powerful, upbeat: ua-cam.com/video/AQ5fuHt38jg/v-deo.html
goPlay is right. Although there are alot of lebanese styles, the one he linked is the most common. It is mostly associated with weddings and happiness-events. But there are also more calm styles.
I saw him in Lebanon years ago and he was playing a variety of percussion equipment. He was most wonderful. He left, due to lack of appreciation. He then visited when Chuco Valdez gave a concert in Beirut and was part of his band. Watch the clip with Richard Galleano| ua-cam.com/video/saOnHeAv1og/v-deo.html
if this is Lebanese style of playing I respect that but Turkish players are far superior than this. So, before anyone says that this is the best performance I've seen in a long time I suggest you watch Turkish guys like Onur il and Misirli Ahmet and say whatever you have to say after that.
Best solo performance I've seen in a long time...awesome!
