Not a boring video at all when you have a beautiful airliner, incredible scenery, and great dialogue between the NCA 747 and the tower. I enjoyed it since I live in busy So. Calif.. Thanks for sharing.
Exactly! and if you look really closely you can see the wing tips have the characteristic "slight tip-up and rake" (dash-8 style) not the winglet like the 747-400. It is fairly clear to people who know their aircraft that this is the 747-8F
I remeber that glorious day in the summer of 1980 that I got to park a 737 for Wien air Alaska , great memories ! Loved the Yukon and especially the people
+joseg2143 oh yah? well big deal I was the pilot! [JOKING - ok people, calm down, it was a joke, I was not the pilot...deep breaths youtube commenters no animals were harmed with this witticism!]
+joseg2143 :) hey I have a question which will seem silly to many folks - but I've got no idea.where do you/loadmasters 'sit' in a cargo jet like that ... clearly somewhere but I've always sort of wondered where. Can you educate me? PS I'm so envious you do that as your JOB each day!
TommyT Well, I'm based at ORD, so my only time ever on the plane is during the offload or upload of the freight. However, there are seats upstairs in the cockpit and a small area with seats behind the flight deck as well. There are 2 jumpseats in the cockpit of the 747-400F and -8F and there are about 6-8 seats in the area directly behind them, as well as anywhere from 2-4 bunks for the crew to sleep in. The extra seats are usually for the crew's family, or for airline personnel traveling with the cargo airline, sometimes couriers and owners accompanying very, very VERY expensive cargo.
For those uncertain about whether this is a 747-8F, you can tell it is a -8F because it has the "scalloped" trailing edges on the engine nacelles and all 747 freighters have the short hump. Of major concern, aside from runway width, is the the weight footprint. Not all secondary runways are constructed to take this loading. Great video. Noticed that even though this is a Japanese carrier, the crew is American.....good English.
Most Cargo versions of the 747-400/747-8 have the short hump length of the early 100s/200s>> less HULL weight/less Drag since the top deck is just needed for a flight crew and sometimes a few passengers
dasher q4 YXY. I’ve lived right close to departure path of 13R ( now 14R). This is the airport I got my wings as well. Yukon flying is absolutely gorgeous
This really is a fascinating video, because we get to hear the conversations with the pilot and air traffic controller in a somewhat unusual situation. Did not expect the effect of the exhaust from the engines at the end, but it only makes sense, the runway is probably narrow and this large a heavy airplane is probably very unusual here. Why was it there? Making a delivery or pickup of cargo? Or was there some emergency necessitating it landing there?
That was a 747-8F or 747-800 Freight ... with new powerful engines from GE... it's an amazing airplane and as it happened in YXY if the runway is too narrow it will blow so much dust and even pavement/concrete from it... hopefully the damage it wasn't that bad..
Neat stuff! But fer the love of Yukon Gold, those NavCan Whitehorse Turkeys don't have anything on the LAX multi runway jockey's...anyone heard of stacking the planes on alternate courses/elevation and flight plans? Guess it was a big deal to see a 747 combi on the tarmac. Anyone know why da heck such a big bird was in Whitehorse? Used to love watching those CP Air 737's take off in Whitehorse back in the 70's with their bright orange colors...lol
It was flying from JFK to Anchorage, but made an emergency landing when the instrument panel (wrongly) indicated there was a fire on the lower deck. There were five crew members aboard, all of whom were unhurt. It took off again that same day.
Wow, fun video. 747-8F...no winglets and those GE-90 engines! Newest 747. Was there significant enough damage to the runway for the airport to bill NCA?
There's simply no reason to spend the money needed to make it larger. With a high cliff dropping off at one end of the runway and a sizeable gully at the other, the cost would be considerable, as that gully would have to be filled.
It's a 747-8, you can recognize it by the Rolls Royce Trent 1000 engines (with the dents). Just not the Intercontinental one. That's why the hump is the length of the -400. And Whitehorse Int'l airport is not equipped to handle jets bigger than a 767 or A330. That's why the concrete was torn off the runway. ;)
and were so underpowered dammit. took 10 minutes to get out of the way? -.- thank God P&W developed the modern P&W turboprop engines. I hope Air North gets some ATRs or Dash8s soon.
GEnx-2B turbine can produce 70,000 lbs (35 tons) thrust directed rearward in a narrow column. Anything too close behind, including weak concrete and vehicles, gets blown to pieces or flung aside
Interesting coincidence how an HS 748 directly preceded a Boeing 748(the company's internal designation for the 747-8, presumably)... ...ILLUMINATI CONFIRMED
Tower: Nippon Cargo 747 beware of wake turbulence from Air North Hs 748
Pilot: ....
A cargo fire warning came on while they were en route from JFK to ANC, and Whitehorse was the closest airport.

11:10 Definitely NOT a boring video. who doesn't want to stare at the Queen of the Skies for 10 minutes or so? 😉😍😁
This isn't any old 747, this is a 747-8F!
AviationUpclose its New 747-800
@@neilsookdeo8061 it's -8F* not 800
How does anyone not think this is a 747-800?!... Look at the damn engines!

sorry, I mean't 787-dash 8 style (not the aircraft, bombardier dash-8)
vicarouza dash 800 works as well. lol
I remeber that glorious day in the summer of 1980 that I got to park a 737 for Wien air Alaska , great memories ! Loved the Yukon and especially the people
Thank You for sharing this. I am from Chicago so while the plane is something we see all the time, but those mountains and that scenery is EPIC.
I was the loadmaster for this exact flight on this date at ORD. It went to JFK afterwards and then this happened. Wow. No idea video of it existed.
That's very cool, JoseG - it's a small world thanks to UA-cam!
+joseg2143 oh yah? well big deal I was the pilot! [JOKING - ok people, calm down, it was a joke, I was not the pilot...deep breaths youtube commenters no animals were harmed with this witticism!]

The 747 - 8 is a total MUST HAVE for any airline.
Watch this video time and time again. Never get bored of it. Especially atc chatter. Wish you would do more of Air North at CYXX. Cheers
dasher q4 YXY. I’ve lived right close to departure path of 13R ( now 14R). This is the airport I got my wings as well. Yukon flying is absolutely gorgeous
The registration is JA13KZ, which every Web site I check says is a 747-8
I believe there are two 747-8 models. This is the 747-8 Freighter and the other 747-8 with the larger hump is the 747-8 Intercontinental.
Awesome video especially with tower audio thanks
This was obviously a big event in Whitehorse
That's hilarious! "Thanks for demolishing our lil runway!"

I’m very glad to see our Nippon cargo’s ✈️👏🏻
747 needed far less runway than the 748 - amazing. But the runway just isn't wide enough for a 4 engine plane.
fun watching and hearing the conversation!

is this the heaviest aircraft (after the 911 diversions) ever to come here?
Yes, it is.
WOW, JUST WOW!!!!!!!!! EPIC video dude! :)
What was the focus problem with the camera?
Wow , I don't really remmeber 747s at this airport I wonder when they started landing there ?
They never come to Whitehorse except in emergencies, as this one was.
I was at that airport just two weeks ago!
why was this in whitehorse may i ask?:) havent seen a 747 at dublin ever haha
It was flying from JFK to Anchorage, but made an emergency landing when the instrument panel (wrongly) indicated there was a fire on the lower deck. There were five crew members aboard, all of whom were unhurt. It took off again that same day.
Hello from 4:16 to 4:31 sec, up of the 747 is one mini plane up of the Montain or one ovni? Beautifull video hugs from Argentina 🤗🤗🍀🍀🌈🌈
thanks for posting!!
That flap setting for takeoff!
I loved this. Very interesting and fun to be part of.
Wow, fun video. 747-8F...no winglets and those GE-90 engines! Newest 747. Was there significant enough damage to the runway for the airport to bill NCA?
Those actually are the newer GEnx engines; the GE90s are only put on the 777 :P
Wow that was amazing
When did 13R get extended? When I worked CYXY it was 7200 feet
It was lengthened to 9500 feet in 1998. It's still not licenced for 747s but we get the occasional one in emergency situations.
THIS IS MY CITY!!
Okay, Ill share it with you :)
Jesus Christ, all the dust that behemoth kicked up when power was set! No kidding if he was NCA159 HEAVY!
We have a short and narrow runway because that's the way we like them. ;)
Awesome catch!
The HS 748 is so much more interesting and charismatic.
Callum Conroy Definitely agree with you
You can also tell because it sports NCAs new paint scheme, so far only applied to their 2 new 747-8fs.
Why is this massive plane at such a small airport?
+smasila - it was an emergency landing due to a fire warning from the cargo area. It was a false alarm.
Tower to airport operations , round up all the brooms you can find.
That's 13 minutes of my life I can never get back! :D
Todd Keller - plus the 30 seconds it took to post that :)
the 747-8 dreamliner wings ARE there and you can tell by the engines its a 748....
Thanks Murray! I was there for the first visit of the Koreans!
Why was it in the Yukon?
Emergengy Landing
Rare happenings
747s @Iconic*
WTH was I ?
Its a 747-8F alright.....the overall length and flutes on the trailing edges of the engine cowlings are the giveaways.
Wanna visit Yukon someday
Why is it so short?
There's simply no reason to spend the money needed to make it larger. With a high cliff dropping off at one end of the runway and a sizeable gully at the other, the cost would be considerable, as that gully would have to be filled.
Thanks but I was wondering more about the actual plane and why it's length was shorter than most.
***** Do you mean the Hawker, or the 747? The 747-8 is the longest airplane in the world, until someone builds a longer one lol. Plane is brand new!
In Whitehorse for Cargo ?
Cautionary landing because of a fire warning light.
Murray Lundberg
Thank you :)
It's great to have people that knows about it =)
Murray Lundberg This must have been quite a sight for you guys over there!
Tim Arnold It drew quite a crowd!
Great video.
700,000 lbs taking off
Rare happening.
Whitehorse is grown up.
Erick International Airport.😊
Don't ya just love GE-90 engines.
12:00 your welcome

what do it mean "it blow concrete off the runaway'????
The blast from the engines blew the concrete apart!
GEnx-2B turbine can produce 70,000 lbs (35 tons) thrust directed rearward in a narrow column. Anything too close behind, including weak concrete and vehicles, gets blown to pieces or flung aside
beautiful
Thanx
Too bad you had a chance to picture a 747 at Whitehorse and it's out of focus.
Yup, too bad - but luckily I did catch it, with tower chatter.
Burning a lot of gas for that clearance.
down the street from my house lol
Wow...that's all I can say.
Interesting coincidence how an HS 748 directly preceded a Boeing 748(the company's internal designation for the 747-8, presumably)...
...ILLUMINATI CONFIRMED
Are you on drugs???
Takeoff at 12:10.
Why did NCA come to Whitehorse? emergency or lots of cargo???
A cargo fire warning came on while they were en route from JFK to ANC, and Whitehorse was the closest airport.
@@MurrayLundberg right on.... thank you...
13R lol dates itself
Not a 747-8. The hump does not extend far back enough and also does not have the classic dreamliner-inspired "twist" at the end of the wings for aero.
vintage turboprop engines looked so ugly
You have no sense of beauty! :)
Murray Lundberg -____-. maybe youre right, but you cant deny my other comment about the power the engines produced
Not much question there - it took that old bird a LONG time to get clear :)
Yukon by auto
What the fuck kind of shoddy runway...
