1st, thanks for sharing this with others. I watched this yesterday, & today I went from "please don't slide, please don't slide"....TO..."PLEASE slide, PLEASE slide". Your title is PERFECT. "Confidence in the Corners". That's exactly what happened, in just a couple of laps. Now I just gotta keep practicing, so it becomes "automatic".
Man after having watched quite a few videos on cornering techniques. I have come to realise the importance of moving your feet positions for cornering... Something of which I very rarely do! PUMPED to try this out more next time I'm out for a ride. :)
2ndly, believe it or not, this was an answer to a prayer. Recently, I've had an incredible increase in my cardio & resistance. My problem WAS... taking the corners at the speed I can now sustain. Well, this is definitely the answer. And lastly, never heard of you, but you sure can rip those wet & slippery curves, bud.
Here in Finland the soil level is super low over the hard pan rock , in other words roots are abundant. Every corner has roots to navigate and trails are literally 10% roots. Most how to videos on cornering dosnt seem to allow for this? Help!!
May I offer you a suggestion? Look for videos on "How To Ride Off Camber", those are likely the skills you're looking for to stay in control over the terrain you've mentioned. Then get out there and practice! Try and dedicate each ride to one specific skill: Looking ahead, experimenting with you you weight your feet, braking with the front and/or the rear brake at the right times... For one of the most important skills; moving your hips around over top of the bike, you don't necessarily even need trails! Have fun and stay safe out there.
how is this supposed to work? I mean how should i help you with cornering? you dont maximize the grip (you dont go low, you dont pump in the bike, you dont lean your bike in do get your tyres digging in the ground) I doubt that you can countersteer a mtb like a motocycle. You are too slow and your bike is simply too light. Correct me if im wrong though
Well i do that on flat surfaces or a street in higher speeds. Am still learning some tricks on mtb roads and am doing very good at it. My most worry is to be with the bike during bunny hops or jumps
I guess on a flat road with high speeds it kinda makes sense but not on the trail. what do you mean with the jumping thingy? are you unconfortable or just not good enough yet? my tip for both go to a dirt park. there are a lot where you can ride your bike for free!
what if you come to corners that the track is not curving up(on both sides) but curving down (like riding on a curving sausage) ? plus, full of round stones/gravels. I am not joking ,i just been through those yesterday..i wonder how people do it..
Not sure I agree with this. Suspension should be a crutch in cornering. Mostly I disagree because in snowboarding you extend in the apex and flex between turns. My theory is that he is flexing in the apex because all the travel can make up for it. Extending in the apex would also increase wheel pressure rather then flexing and down unweighting in a corner depressurizing the wheels. I Ride a Hardtail.
Having ridden with. (behind) Lars for years, he definitely has cornering dialed. And he's not bad on a snowboard either. Suspension is a tool, whether on rock or corners. Use it to your advantage. It does mean you corner your body earlier than the bike, as opposed to the connectedness you feel on a hard-tail, and that's where the extending into the apex comes in handy. You can effectively turn the corner with your body first, then throw the bike out to bounce off the corner, while the suspension adjusts to the difference.
The trail in this video is bermed out so it's very easy to maintain speed. Very difficult to maintain that kind of speed on a trail that is not bermed out and off-cambre. You'll just wash out if you try to ride that fast.
Why does everyone ahow riders racing through the woods, flying through the air, jumping at every bump and sliding through turns creating dust clouds? I don't want to do any of that stuff, I just want to ride normally.
hey cheaterninja of course anybody can be quick..its all matter of time.. first you have to be relax and look far so that you can plan your bike where to go... Like they said look where you want to go and your bike will follow.... buy a book its called " How to master a mountain biking part 2" It taught me a lot . plus it'll give you more confident, faster and most of all safety...

Lars plus Boards of Canada. as then, as now, Transition kills it with epic style and taste. Lars be the man. wonderful.
BoC is some of my favorite electronic music out there, but it's super weird hearing it in a mtb vid
indeed. and in a good way!
Great vid. Clear and helpful. Love the soundtrack!

Lars is the man...
Do you apply counter steering on the turn or just turn the the handle bar normally to the turn direction
+Layth Taher you cannot countersteer on a bicylcle.
But i did it before and it is very helpful

It's 2020 and seeing a bike without a dropper post is like, WTF?!?"
I'm sure he's faster now w the new SBG! Crazy tech
sweat riding, flying round the corners
he said faceshot
had to fast forward to 02:00 then switch off at 02:40 ......

i will neva be this quick
Boards of Canada - Roygbiv
Say that to Sm Hill..
well... Then ride "normally"..

Because riding "normally" wouldn't require a tutorial, would it? 😀
