Blender is where it's @!!! I use it for some basic 3D modeling, I'm hardly a guru, but I find it to be the best free 3D suite available. Please support the Blender project if you use it as full featured 3D suite, especially if it is making you money. Let's keep this great software free for years to come.

it is free it is legal it is open-source. the totourial is easy to understand and its basic. if the animation doesn't play there are different reasons for that: 1: you only added one key, the object will stay in that position (for an animation you need a starting location and an ending. 2. you didn't play the animation (you can play it in blender hitting arrow keys or if you rendered it by hitting render-> show rendered buffer) 3. you got other problems and we can't help with such litle info,

Unity is easier to get used too, but requires $1,500 to get most of the useful features, while Unreal is free and comes with everything, but is completely broken when it comes to usability. Blender, Maya, and 3D Studio Max are all Modeling Software and usually come down to preference or cost, as blender is free and the others aren't.
None are better, its just how you decide you wanna design your stuff, blend and unity kinda go hand in hand when your an independent developer. Unreal isn't to my liking, unity is awesome for both beginners and pros cause its not so limited that pros can actually use it but it is pretty user friendly so that beginners can begin to make a game. or scene or whatever else

@name887 idk about anything of modeling and such but i think you can do floor/terrain models and then code stuff or something? (I THINK) and idk what u could use if not. im not an expert at this. i just saw a video and said what it had on it :L
Please help If you have a filled square (one of many in a figure). and lets say, the corners A,B,C,D (clockwise) and you push corners A and D, then a not real edge between B & C is formed by the fill, so the square now have triangle fills, between A,B,C and B,C,D but, many times I need to change the fill so it is between A,B,D and the other A,C,D Is there an easy way to do it? I always have to create and edge between A,D, delete the square face, add the new faces, then disolve the edge Thanks

No you can't. First of all YOU can't do it, because its not like spending a week to create and then play. Even great game creators (like JoWood, Interactive Games, Piranha Bytes) spend like 2-5 years for one game. And they've got quite a lot of animators, game designers and stuff. Besides this application would only give you the chance to create Models and Objekts, which means you need an Engine for 'your game', what could be impossible for you to do. Like i said: You can't create an MMORPG.

its not a stupid question. Blender is for 3d modeling and animation, but it has a game engine so you can make a game just with this program. But I think most game developers export the 3d models from sofware like this, and use them in his game, using some rendering libraries.
@RKEreal1 Yes, Blender actually has a game engine. In fact, super3boy is creating a set of tutorials on creating RPGs at this moment. I'm not skilled enough to create a good game yet, but Blender's fun and powerful... and free, probably the best part.
at first i hated blender, i almost bought 3D MAX. then i began to view some tutorials, explore the program for myself, and now I LOVE IT. blender is boss, and anyone who hates it, maybe they just dont got the brains to use it hahaha.
@firebult28 Lol no, I use the program. It's virus free. All it's got is a whole bunch of awesome. @KixxSasuke I'm pretty sure he edited the video so you didn't have to watch him wait for the download/installation.
@cinemalego Open the user interface panel(the symbol is an I) the panel is also at the top so you can just drag it down click on System and Open GL and click on Emulate Numbpad for blender 2.49 at least
i've done step by step what gigafide said in video but my computer cant run the programme... i have windows xp .. but it sais something about DOS.. that it cant read something.. what should i do ?

Oh man, the controlls are completely ass-backwards to 3Ds Max. Still, this program has alot of potential, it was used to make an Award Winning Animated film, Sintel.
Select the object, Press tab to edit that object, right click a face to select it. If it doesn't work, you probably have the vertex selection only enabled or something.

Yes, Unreal is in fact free. Unreal Engine 3 is. Google it. They released it to the public.

Small correction- It's not a 3D Rendering program, it's a 3D Modeling/Animation/Compositing/Video sequencing program. And it has it's own renderer.
