The dowry is the money, property or wealth transferred from the bride’s or her family to the groom or to his family.
The bride price on the other hand is the amount a man pays in properties, gifts and/or money to the bride and/or her family.
These two concepts are confused and used interchangeably in Africa as most African cultures don’t have bride or bride’s family paying dowries to the groom and his family.
Thanks for the clarification. The dowry system is what Indians adopt. I agree that this terms are used anyhow.
