For me, a very impactful series with Steve Allen and Jayne Meadows, both of whom were professionals at what they did. I want to thank the person who uploaded this for sharing a very important television series. This sharing is much appreciated.
I found out about Meeting of Minds - and the breadth and depth of Steve Allen’s erudition and his desire to educate us - less than 2 hours ago, 4/19/2021. I can’t believe that I never saw this program when I was younger. Better late than never. Thanks very much for the uploads!
35:55 The shifting agreements and arguments among the panelists give this an immediacy and interest, an understanding in the audience that might not have gleaned without Mr. Allen's outstanding and witty editorial pen. As the disagreement between Cleopatra and Payne rises, Aquinas steps in with a particularly thorny barb hidden in a perfectly polite observation, further enraging the queen and drawing a gleeful cheer from the firebrand.
This series was so influential to me as a kid. So important and elegant, and it's amazing how many themes and topics we're revisiting now. Thank you for posting! I hope you're able to post other episodes soon. I'd love to see the entire series again!
Far too infrequently viewed, Meeting of Minds was almost a precursor of The History Guy, who carries the flame of historical truth as this show did. It was intelligent and even understandable by a pre-teen boy who found comfort watching these programs with my father. Bravo for having and posting these.
I can't thank you enough for posting this wonderful series. One of my favorite tv shows of all time. I have friends who agree. We wish we could get this released on DVD.
If on DVD I would buy it in a shot. I don't know many people who are interested in history. My father was interested in history, but he was more interested in the more recent history and my interest starts with Egypt and goes backwards. I love prehistoric man. Also very interested in daily lives of ancient times. Not so much interest in wars which sadly history is full of.
This series is, along with Jacob Bronowski's The Ascent of Man, one of the two greatest and most informative entertainments ever presented on television. Steve Allen was a genius of the first order, one of the greatest minds of the twentieth century.
I think this is the ONLY time Thomas Paine was ever portrayed on film, that I know of. How has such an amazing and important historical personality never gotten his own movie or TV show?
I get a kick out of Steve Allen calling Cleopatra, "your majesty". Who was,of course, played by his beautiful and loving wife Jayne Meadows. I'll bet he called her that many times from that point on. Steve Allen had many fans, myself included, but none more ardent than Jayne Meadows.
In the movie adaptation of Raymond Chandlers Lady In The Lake , Jayne Meadows proves to be the equal of any of her peers . A superb talent , she was never foolish enough to sign a long term contract .

Steve mentioned how the students of that time couldn't read or write as they should be able to. It's only gotten worse. Far worse. As it appears the aspect of critical thinking and discernment have also been given short shrift.
What role did the United States play in the independence of Panama? In 1903, Roosevelt supported a pro-American uprising by sending warships to Panama to prevent the Colombians from quashing the insurrection. T.R. was a lot of B.S.
BRAVO!!!!! This is television on the graduate college level. It happens too rarely.
Finally! Meeting of Minds comes to UA-cam. Thanks so much for this. If possible, please also include Season 1 episodes 3 and 4. :)
Steve Allen was brilliant to write this

“The Readers Digest “ knowledge of the public then was like a PHD is now. History is a lost art.
This series Is sheer GENIUS... !

and he was crazy funny[MAN IN THE STREET GANG] and an accomplished jazz piano man......what a COUPLE.....THEY MUST HAVE HAD GREAT KIDS.
An excellent concept. What four great minds from history would you invite to a dinner party at your place?
One of the best shows ever on TV, bar none. Thanks so much for posting. I missed this show greatly.

Well explained 😊

do you have any more of these ?
This series is, along with Jacob Bronowski's The Ascent of Man, one of the two greatest and most informative entertainments ever presented on television. Steve Allen was a genius of the first order, one of the greatest minds of the twentieth century.
And a versatile piano 🎹 player ❤
If only today's youth could see this and learn how to think & reason much better.

Sadly, writing "The Age of Reason" made him very unpopular.
@@corawheeler9355 Well at the time, yes. But I would have expected modern audiences to be more in sync with him.
I would love to read transcripts of these. Does anyone know if they ever happened to be put into book form?

J.Kam is my K.Jam thanks for uploading.
The acting and the script were marvellous. Besides Jayne Meadows and Steve Allen I do not recognize the other actors.
. . . from John Hancock's ship , the Liberty .
tom Paine was my favorite personality
@D Sullivan Yes, that was awesome! And I tend to like Tom Paine more than most of those commonly deemed as Founding Fathers.
Ben Franklin.
@@ERH1453 Of course, Franklin was not one of the figures featured here.

The first 2.5 minutes can be skipped
Are you in a hurry ?
53 : 00 how very dare you 😢
31:30 "...the wording of a prayer that you mouth without even thinking of its meaning..."
next episode: Albert Einstein, Joan of Arc, Barack Obama, Nikola Tesla

Oh boy are you right
Great show, but Jayne Meadows overacts.
Jane Meadows was absolutely excellent. You over react

T.R. was a lot of B.S.
Things aren't as black and white as you low IQ folks think it is.
Quite a few atrocities committed in the Philippines 1902 --- 1913 .
pro American uprisings tend to be funded and planned by the CIA (or it's predecessors). Now as then.
A horrible show.
You need a brain to understand what it's about
