    What gap should be left between the floor and bottom of the skirting board for carpet fitting?

      Hi there, a gap under the skirting board is not required 😊

    If I want to replace my old skirting which is bigger than this short skirting, do I need to plaster the gap with a gap filler or use skim material as the wall is currently skimmed.

    • @bandq
      @bandq  2 роки тому +4

      You can use a filler to fill in any gaps once the old skirting is removed and rub down to make a flat finish before adding the new skirting. This is fine for small sections or areas behind furniture. However, for a really smooth professional finish, we would recommend skimming the wall especially if the skirting is going to be visible ie not hidden behind furniture. We hope this helps 😊

      Hi there, that would be down to your own preference. Painting the skirtings would help protect the wood 😊

    1:42 infill board? Where you get that from?

    • @bandq
      @bandq  Рік тому +1

      Please see here: bit.ly/2ZpyxNy for the material used. Depending on the size of the cavity will depend on the size of wood you will need. I hope that helps 😊

    They're using the metal/electric/stud detector backwards!!! You don't hold the side with the LED and switches towards the wall!

    • @kemipue
      @kemipue 3 роки тому

      But the style of that one looks like if you do it the other way around you’d be holding the handle to the wall instead…

    Fixings wise: At 2:40 you were quite vague. You didn't explicitly say that you MUST use fixings for external walls - you only said this is for bowed walls... So I take it I can use the gap filling grab adhesive for external walls.
    I do want to use a gap filling grab adhesive for the external wall also because it is easier and I don't need to source a drill with the countersink drill bit which I will NEVER need again. Can I use the gap filling grab adhesive for flat external walls?

    • @bandq
      @bandq  Рік тому +2

      Hi there, fixings are only required when the walls are bowed. It's not a requirement for external walls unless they're bowed. I hope that helps! 😊

    I have a deep cavity behind some skirting I’m about to replace, and the infill looks like the answer to fill that gap. What do you use for infill?

    Has anyone actually attempted this in their house, I get the impression its allot harder than it appears in this video? Any comments from DIY'es who have attempted this would be great.

    • @bennershull
      @bennershull 3 роки тому

      I am trying it right now. It’s not too difficult - an easy to moderate difficulty for a DIYer id say.

    • @bennershull
      @bennershull 3 роки тому +1

      How fussy you are about a perfect finish will determine how hard it is though. If you are happy with it looking adequate then go ahead and do yourself.

      I live in a house that was built in the mid-sixties, while stripping one of the rooms skirting on the side of the chimney breast came off, it was nailed on, only reason it came off was that the plaster behind was rotten, might be a good idea to secure it with nails.
