This is a 2nd year garden in the rough Texas scrub land. So... can the Ryobi tiller attachment to the Brushless String Trimmer handle it?
I put it through field testing and catastrophically kill the string trimmer in under 30 minutes.
So, nope. Don't bother unless you till only the softest of soil with no twigs, roots or stones. Realistically, it is a great string trimmer rendered into junk by the engineered attachment.
Ryobi made the attachment. They should have known better. The carbon fiber shaft is not anywhere close to handling the torture of a 30lbs tiller dangling on the end.
    0 out of 10 starts.

I only use the tiller on my Ryobi 4 cycle gas powered head. It has a metal shaft.

I like Ryobi - maybe if I read the instructions close it would say not to use it on my Rechargable? It could be a me problem.

A little homework, and instructions, could have helped you. Gas power is the only way to operate a heavy attachment. You can weed whip, edge and blow with electric. Saws, hedge trimmers, rototillers and other such attachments are recommended for gas only.

Sure. But the carbon shaft literally says "Attachment Ready" in bright orange sticker. So... I stand by my criticism of the manufacturer on this one. They let marketing run amok.
But yeah, metal is the only way to manage a small tiller. I some some other great ideas like remove the top cover so the weeds just pass thru. Also only use 2 tangs in a sod filled garden like mine. I don't know how I would put a spacer in there, but that is an idea for first pass.
Anyway the garden is in for this year, but next year I will try everybody's ideas.

@@1000YearHomes Point taken. I recall checking if my version was capable of using a brush blade, and found out that is was not recommended. Enjoy your day.

your asking a lot from that poor little thing. My Ryobi tiller attachment hates long stringy grass and roots as well. If you take the top guard off the root clumps have nothing to clog in. you can also take 2 blades off the bottom so you have 1 on each side of the gear box. this gives more power to the 2 remaining blades to deal with the heavier soil. Sorry about that carbon shaft. that's a stinker

AWESOME IDEA ON THE SHIELD AND BLADES! I typed in all caps to show how positive I was about your ideas.
I do agree with you. It is rough, rough. 2nd year garden while I build so still has sod and weeds.
