Your info about the salt crystals is really interesting, we often wash racing yacht halyards and sheets in a pillow case, in the washing machine. Admittedly that is usually at the very start of their life to make them easier to grip. I know there are a lot of differences in what sailors and climbers look for in rope, stretch and elasticity in particular, is that why washing by hand is better for climbing ropes?

Not had much experience of sailing ropes. So would be hard to comment on that.
I have seen some people say that it is ok to put climbing ropes in a washing machine inside a pillow case. I have not found a need for this and would personally rather wash by hand. A few things that would worth doing if you are going to use a washing machine would be to make sure that the draw is cleaned to remove any left over detergent and to use a delicate setting.

Great vid guys, definitely reminded me to check the ropes, trim and clean them while we are locked in anyway 😂 Thanks

I loved the tip about double daisy chain when washing the rope. Thank you, saved me a lot of time with untangling.

I think it is good to cut the rope at the other end as well so the middle marking stays true. What do you think?

Yep we usually chop the same off each end to keep the middle mark accurate.
