Coolkid’s little smile throughout the run makes me so happy. The couch guys did a great job commentating for him since it was clear he was a bit nervous. And rightly so, just look at how tight the run is!
Yep. Both Cyghfer and Sinister1 are long time veterans of the GDQ events. They know how to effectively convey the info the viewers need without stepping all over the feet of the runner.
@@SplozyI know for a fact it would mess ME up. I play like poo if someone's even watching me play, I can't imagine having multiple people explaining everything you're doing AS you're doing it. I wouldn't be able to focus
That was an excellent run, but noticing how close it was to estimate just shows how confident he was. I love that he gave himself so little time for error.
Such a fun game Remember using metal blade for like everything as a casual player (besides bosses) Also mind-blown at how well he took down the stupid fucking Crash Bomb Turret boss
While its an annoying boss for sure, I gotta say, it has to be one of the best designed bosses in any game. The fact that you can either destroy all walls, die, charge up crash bombs and then kill the boss, or have super precise placements to defeat the boss in one go is unlike any other boss Ive ever seen in a video game.
I've beaten MM2 twice: once on the Famicom as a kid and the other on the PS3 port. and tbh, it's just now that I found out that Quick Man's boomerang is Metal Man's weakness
Most people just fight Metal Man first, 'cause the Metal Blades are pretty strong, can be aimed in eight directions and have an obscene amount of weapon energy.
@@bbarrett726 seems i'm a week late, but if you haven't heard of it yet, Zipping is basically getting Megaman pushed up into the enviroment, like the ceiling, and have the game zoom you past areas etc. Usually using item 1 i think. It's more of a glitchy run then a straight run like this.
This was my first Megaman as a kid and I played it to death! Killed Bubbleman like that by accident and thought it was so cool! Hell made it to Heatman because I refused to give up on learning that bullshit jump stuff and he was my first boss. I failed to kill him though but so many hours waisted learning the jumps. Such memories with this game. Damn! My first time at the Wily Castle my mom made us turn it off to attend church! Just.. man! That kills me still!
I did NOT know about that time freeze trick for the dogs on woodman's stage. Oooh the frustration it would have saved me in my youth. haha Quickman refight was peeerfect!
You don't even need to freeze them. You can kill 2 of them out of their range with Metal Blade. The first from the ladder and the third from the start of the screen.
Have you actually played any of the other games or are you just saying that because everyone says that? Mega Man 2 is a good game and all of that but there’s nothing really special to it compared to the other games. Mega Man 4 is an objectively much better game and like... the Boobeam trap and alien are badly designed bosses due to you needing certain weapons to even kill them.
Interesting. When he enters Heat Man's stage after the double KO in Bubble Man, Mega Man is still playing out his "throw blade" animation, only in his default blue colors. (Blink and you'll miss it). I wouldn't figure that Mega's last state would still be stored like that.
I definitely remember beating this when I was a kid, but I have no fucking idea how. I guess lots of time, practice, and sugar gave me reflexes I no longer have
Buster only Quick Man is such a cool stunt :P EDIT: also Cyghfer and Sinister1 is absolutely awesome choice for couch. They're veterans in the MM2 scene and their commentary is legendary.
i had this game as a kid and I think i could beat it in like 2 hours. I thought I was pretty good. And then internet happens and you see pros finishing it...
Beating MM2 in 2 hours is still really solid for a casual runner. That's nothing to be ashamed of at all. Keep practicing and you could absolutely make the leaderboard.
Beautiful run. Question: He mentioned that the JP version 'saves a ton of time in the cutscenes'. How much? I'd like to compare to my PB, but I play on the US version.
It's approximately 8 seconds faster for cutscenes after Flash Heat and Air man stages because of the items and 4 seconds faster at the end of the other robot master levels.
Quick man doesnt take as much (if any, I don't remember if hes immune) as he does from buster. If you miss any of the tornadoes too, you have to wait until they're off screen to fire again.
Certainly not. There's a few parts where he gets hit on purpose to become invincible and run over spikes. Also Boobeam Trap is nearly impossible to avoid damage from without pausing to become invincible and wasting time
Man gotta love that the commentators have encyclopedic knowledge of this game.
Sinsiter1 and Cyghfer both run the game and Cyghfer used to have the WR in the zips category. These two were a great commentary choice for this run!
I know, right?
Coolkid’s little smile throughout the run makes me so happy. The couch guys did a great job commentating for him since it was clear he was a bit nervous. And rightly so, just look at how tight the run is!

According to the Mega Man RTA leaderboards, this run was only 28 seconds off his WR. Awesome GG
and was better than the 5th best player's PB. Fantastic job.
The thing is: he made very few almost irrelevant mistakes, and still 28 is a lot of time ...makes me think how perfect World Redord is.
I'm seriously impressed with how calmly coolkid runs through this. He makes it look easy
Knowing just how hard to press that jump button to avoid those spikes on BubbleMan's stage.....impressive.
That was an excellent run, but noticing how close it was to estimate just shows how confident he was. I love that he gave himself so little time for error.
He came extremely close to the laser during the early part of Quickman stage. Those sections gave me bad anxiety as a kid.
I love the vibe of this run and commentary
You can sense the humility and respect from these gentlemen. Amazing run and commentary!
Nice run and commentating :) brings back alot of memories seeing this game
that waterfall destroying the bit rate

Fun fact: Flashman actually takes as much damage from the Crash Bomber as he does the Metal Blade - making it his weakness in a proper weakness order.
@@randomguy-tg7ok But Crash Bombs are his main weakness
the first stage has me glued to my seat! this is amazing
Best retro game. Best speedrun of this game.
Bubbleman stage always messes up with the cameras lol.
Incredible he had this good of a run in front of a crowd.
You'd think he would go for the safe strats for a GDQ run. He's so sharp and confident in his skills. What a run.

So weird to see a zipless run. I got confused when I saw Airman first
I'm still not clear when a zipless run is.
Same, i thought there had been a Route change i didn't know about :D
@@bbarrett726 zips are kind of "out of bounds" when you enter the ceiling or wall and get transported

Entertaining run, great announcement.
Does anybody else go through phases where you watch speedruns for like 2 weeks straight? Just me? Ok.

Pausing resets your falling speed, allowing it to happen, just fyi

Oh it’s because it’s zipless

The Japanese cutscenes use less text, so it takes less time for the game to print all the text out.

hey me too! and it's one of those games that was instantly a favourite of mine.
@ 26:10 can someone explain to me why I can only sometimes see the item one in the video.
Where are these donations coming from? Wow
This was my favorite game as a kid
Is turbo - button firing allowed in this category? Or is that not allowed?
In all NES categories only unmodified stock type controllers are allowed. No turbo, autofire, or L+R/U+D allowed.
You can mash like that by vibrating your hand while slightly gravitating to the button. The explanation might be vague, but you can look it up.
I always start with Airman because I find him the easiest to beat with the basic weapon.
Wait a second. Is he that same coolkid who did half-life speedrun with quadrazid?

Certainly not. There's a few parts where he gets hit on purpose to become invincible and run over spikes. Also Boobeam Trap is nearly impossible to avoid damage from without pausing to become invincible and wasting time
If only there was a way to do a zip glitch through the whole game without actually playing it
