Simon Jordan would work for a Saudi radio station for 10 times his salary. He wouldn't think twice about it...
Not really the point tho
That's an irrelevant argument
Exactly Duran does what he wants his future no one else’s
@ yes it is. He'd be taking a drop in standards and he'd be away from media broadcasting in th UK. Exactly the same point mate.
@@NPRENT23I think it's relevant. 99% of the people complaining about it would do the exact same in their own professions.
I mean, he's a kid from Medellin and he's gone to get generational wealth. It's not ideal, but fair play.
tbf playing in the prem is generational wealth
@tom4md123 Perhaps eventually, but he's likely being offered it much sooner in Saudi.
Exactly let him do what he wants earned the bag secure his family's future for generations. Typical English people telling him what to do
@WaseemKhan-sp4yl I think people of all nations are dissapointed in him here, he's chose wealth over winning and people will always shame that
It’s not fair that a man who kicks a ball for a job is paid that much when people who save lives can’t afford to pay rent
Jhon Duran made the best decision for himself, bitter people like simon jordan are losing sleep over a life changing decision of another grown man.
Also he is just jealous because that player is gonna become rich
@edenhazard3390 money will always be the ambition n motivator bro
Kid gets a chance to sort out his family and community for life. People forget that football is a profession, will miss him at Villa but wish him all the best.
He’s already earning alot- no need to effectively give up for money. Money ain’t all that
Guess he will take 2 years oil money and try to sneak back to the premier league suggesting he was ill advised.

Yeah he's really on pennies at Villa isn't he 😂 What a stupid argument. Literally go there in 3 or 4 years then.
It's very noble of Simon to help Jhon make his life choices.
Exactly, the poor kid hasn't scammed mobile network providers and able to sell a feet of high street mobile shops so leave him be. Not everyone thinks the prem league is the be all and end all of football.
He’s got to back the courage of his convictions
I support Duran. This is a life changing opportunity for him and his family
I think as fans, we sometimes forget that some of these players are only playing because of the money. They’ve been fortunate enough to be talented and to be able to use their talents to change their families.
He isn't one of those players. I can tell you as a Villa fan, he absolutely loves playing football, hated being taken off if he started.
Exactly at the end of the day it’s your job.
Always prioritise securing the bag as quickly as you can, regardless of where you are
I think it's a smart move.
He can secure his family financially for years to come. He can go for 3 years and still come back afterwards and have a successful career. Fair play to the lad,it wouldn't be my choice to play in Saudi but I understand it.
Celtic will take him in 3 years time.

Jim White just explained beautifully why this move is so good for Duran. He can go to Saudi Arabia for 3 years and make a ton of money. Then he can come back and still have his serious European career being sill only 24.
This move makes sense to me.

The amount of condescension coming from rich westerners here is disgusting. You clearly didn't have to carry the responsibility of being the main breadwinner of not just a family, but often times an entire village/town. People need to check the position of privilege they come from before criticising someone for their career choices.
You don't half talk a lot of shhhhhhhhh.

He’s doing the equivalent of leaving Yale or Cambridge uni for a college in Rochdale and then thinking that he will be able to get a job at Goldman Sachs or somewhere similar afterwards.
@@aydoganrm3295No it's the equivalent of leaving an established company to join a start up for 10x the money. Something I am sure 99% of you people complaining would also do.

Do you guys know his family’s financial situation in Columbia? He could blow his knee out today and never get a big contract. Moving to Saudi is about making enough money to provide for his family and probably get them out of poverty within 1 year vs a hopeful 5-7 in Europe.
He could get his family out of poverty with a Month's worth of his Aston villa salary.

Simon and his eurocentric opinion. Duran don't care one jot about it. When you factor in the tough background these south American guys come up in, then you may understand generational wealth is the order of the day. Good for Duran. Quids in 🎉

What a knob Jordan is.
A lot of people criticized Lamelo Ball for heading to Lithuania instead of playing college basketball. He's now tearing it up in the NBA. Duran will still be talented and young after his Saudi stint. 🙏
Is all about money at the end of the day... most of these footballers came from very poor families...So before you judge
I wonder what Simon Jordan would have said and done if someone had said to him when he started his own business " dont be so haste, wait a few years and learn the business, your young , you have years in front of you " .
Not even comparable in the slightest
@DanielWynn-v7bexactly what a dumb comment
I really don't understand these comments about players who choose the Saudi League or money. If a player should play for the love of the game why should he play professional football? It is in the name: PROFESSIONAL football. It is his profession and he should make decisions that will benefit him the most. I would advise any footballer or human to make decisions that will benefit him or her the most. I would absolutely understand that a football player chooses the most money. He will create generational wealth with this move. He can play for the love of the game after he is financially done.
If he can learn from Ronaldo on how to look after his body etc and then it might be beneficial for him. I think Colombia will continue to pick him.
Ronaldo has been playing ball for 20 years now… name one young player that played with him and “learned” from him? I will wait 😂
Look after body needs alot of discipline, maybe u won't find a second CR7, maybe Messi is closed.
@ I think players like De Ligt, Bentancur, Chiesa, Kulusevki have learnt a lot from being his teammate. I think from his Real Madrid time, players like Benzema and Higuain also picked up a lot from playing alongside him.
@ A lot of discipline indeed.
@@yawnthedinosaur9566are you joking? Tons of players have come out and said his work ethic in training made them look at what they were doing themselves
How dare a player put himself first, also, how dare the Saudi's attempt to make their league strong and potentially attract more tv viewership and fans at stadiums.
Young south american kids should come and play in cold, rainy england, battling away in mid-table with no hope of winning anything, instead of getting 4x the money to try to win trophies in sunnier climes elsewhere 😤
As a villa fan I think this works out well for all parties.
No doubt Duran has the potential to be one of the best strikers in the world. The only thing stopping him is himself and the team around him.
But he is too volatile and unpredictable, as the sending off against Newcastle showed (it was never a red card).
This money will help villa strengthen the squad and continue challenging for top 4. We've got Watkins, so it's not a major loss. Wish him the best for the future
Not sure why people are acting like his career is over. He already went from the MLS to the premier league. I’m pretty sure that he can return to European football because he’ll still be young when the Saudi contract ends.
Life in sports is short an unpredictable...a player trying to capitalize on the opportunity should be applauded
Nobody criticises clubs for cashing in on talented youngsters to improve their financial position, why are we applying different standards to players? A kid is being offered 20 million euro a year to go play football and he's supposed to turn that down to sit on the bench at Villa? Most people would take a job elsewhere that offers them multiples more than they're currently earning, and wouldn't think twice about it regardless of how it's advancing their career. Football has changed. Loyalty is rare when most players in the premier league are foreign. It is what it is.
I don't think Duran cares about your respect
He wasn’t injured he was suspended
Fair play to him stay there make a fortune I'd do the same 4 years he will make as much as we would have in his whole career and at 24 , 25 he can come back
Duran does not care about anything except the money, and the Saudis will give him lots of it. At least his family back in Colombia will be happy. Make them proud, Jhon Duran.
How is that league meant to grow and compete with the likes of the premier league without throwing money about like they are 🤔
Exactly. Simon Jordan seems to forget how the Premier League overtook Serie A and La Liga as a financial powerhouse.
The goal is money and lifestyle and all the perks that come with it, the sport is just a way of getting it.
Go to Saudi, play along side one of the all time greats. Get paid a huge wage, secure you and your family financially for decades to come. No brainer.
Westerners and their moral high ground
Africans and their uneducated football views
Duran is a grown man and he will have to live with all the millions he is going to make in Saudi , at the end of the day it's his choice in a free world
People are free to have an opinion on it aswell.
I understand it completely. Earn an absolute fortune, play with Ronaldo and come back to Europe when he’s 23/24/25. Nothing wrong with it
Come back where? Even if he bags 100 goals a season, no European club will take him seriously, nor be able to get even close to his salary expectations
100% Simon would go out there to in a heartbeat for half the money to talk balls on the radio
He’ll have missed 2-3 years of development. 2-3 years in the Saudi league playing with old men and pub players won’t lift his level.
2-3 years in the champions league and Prem, he could be then playing at Real Madrid and earn millions from endorsements by being one of the best players in the world
@@aydoganrm3295 When you come back down to earth let me know. You act like nobody in any league in the Middle East can play in Europe? What type of simple-minded logic is that? What advice would Simon give to his Son if he was found in the same position.
Good luck to the lad securing his and his families financial future who would not do the same given the opportunity and money bags Jordan it's easy when you are already loaded to preach,
I don’t think anybody has the right to criticise a player chasing the bag. Ultimately it’s a job and he’s chosen to prioritise earnings over ambition. His choice
It’s funny that in most other walks of life we follow where the money takes us yet in football it’s almost seen as a taboo.
In most walks of life your career doesn’t already make you a millionaire.
@ it doesn’t matter. To most human beings enough is never enough. Here have 10 million, great. now how do I turn that into 20.
@@MRT1601 it does to fans, I’m simply giving you the reason why it’s seen like that. People view footballers at his level as rich already, so to your average man on the street they just view things like this as greed.
Fair play to him for going , if the numbers are correct he’s earning an extra 300k a week out there than he would at villa. Anyone who would turn that down is insane
Let him serve 2 years in obscurity, earn a stupid amount, and he can then come back as still a very good player
thats maybe in his mind...he may tear up that league and perhaps get a move to barca or real
@paulrichards6894the drop off in professionalism and intensity between Saudi and major European leagues probably means he will never make it at one of the European Giants. It’s a shame as he has a footballing talent to make it unfortunately he doesn’t have the mentality or the professionalism.
@@MrMonkeyHat i can see why he would go for money but agree its not for football
It's definitely not for footballing reasons, but he has the raw talent and attributes to go there and still be considered a good player after 2 seasons in Saudi
Jim White is a law to himself - Perhaps a ideal candidate for the PGMOL
He’s still so young, he can go for 3 years and ensure his future and his family, then come back to Europe and still be successful.
Going in the vital years of his development into a league where you won't be pushing yourself will mean he probably never reaches his full potential. In the end football is his job and hes going to maximise his earnings with the move.

What does it say? Why are you working assuming that you are? Rightly so, it’s a short career, he’s young and can push there 2/3 years to secure his future. Nothing wrong with that.
@ you’re right it is a short career, so why go to Saudi and waste it? He is good enough to be at a top premier league side, competing for trophies and still be a multi millionaire. The big money move will always be there at the end of his career. Everything wrong with it
Cant believe some people acting like he's he's living on the bread line at Villa. He's already earning life changing money.
Well said Simon jordan
So, Simon, if you get an offer from Sky 10 times, the amount of your current salary to do the same thing. Would you not take it?
You're already rich, Duran wants generational wealth, too. Some people value different things in life.
Lot's of people on here don't realize that not only Saudi Arabia has much higher wages but are also tax free while prem players have around 50% effective tax. Coming from poverty and about to set his entire family tree and future generations in half the time it would take in the UK, while also enjoying a higher quality of life that is there - chilling in a farmers league instead of working like a horse in the toughest league in the world.
Financially he played his cards right. How many players each year are in the spotlight because they have an amazing season and then they are forgotten about and their careers with them soon after. Cashed out like a G while the spotlight is on him.
Tbh this is where people need to think about that football player is also just a job at the end of it all. If you could get 10x your own salary, work way less and have way less competition and get paid all tax free everyone would take it. It just requires you to change your perspective from sport to job.
Im sure these Simon Jordans pundit thoughts are a level of naive teenager. First of all, that's the main reason Duran left is that Villa bosses were offered 80 mln. That's it. And they re trying to cover themselves with 21 years old prodigy as if he's frivolous kid. And I'm not talking that really deserved to play more than Watkins. What a precious punditry.
Imagina a rich man judging a poor man for wanting to be as rich as possible
August 2023 Gabri Veiga committed career suicide going to Al-Ahli when City,Liverpool,Chelsea and Napoli were all interested in acquiring his services from Celta Vigo.
Two years later he isn't getting calls from Spain national team and all the big clubs lost any interest and his development was hampered.
Duran thinks taking the same path is good because he can secure a bag.
Shows that some youngsters lost the love for the sport and only are doing it for the highest bidder.
Financial ambition +1000
Sporting ambition -1000
Can't teach champion mentality.

I didn’t agree with this until I watched this. He’s 21 can go and absolutely secure his future and his family’s future for generations and even come back when he’s 24-25 and play competitive football. He will also be playing with Ronaldo and other experienced players who he can learn from.
Duran will still be picked for Columbia even if he is playing in Saudi. Big profit for Villa. Not many players come back to the EPL from Saudi.
That's probably because most of the players that go are reaching the end of their playing days. Celtic sold a young player Jota to the Saudis. He went played for a few seasons and Celtic recently bought him back. So it can happen

Arsenal are using Watkins as a red herring. It’s just to make their fans think that they actually want to win. Villa should press them and make a deal. Watkins is ok, but he’s not elite and he’s 29.
All these comments about "the kid gets to sort out his family and talking about generational wealth" is really condescending and rich coming from people that may not be earning anywhere near what he is currently at villa. Ronaldo is there, Mane is there, Aubameyang, etc just because it is the saudi pro league it is a bad move.

Some players come to the premier league because of the wages. Don't be mad someone is offering more
It is sad that a great talent would rather not be playing in a top league for a club also doing very well in the top continental competition. But it's a short career with potential for a very big pay day to forever help him, his family and his great great grandchildren
Simon is right.
He'd be a millionaire regardless if he went or stayed.
21 years old creating generational wealth, grew up in poverty, is going to play thousands more minutes of football learning from one of the greatest strikers the worlds ever seen, known for his dedication and hard work two things Duran could do well with. Jordan has no respect for it… of course.
Why is there still this dark cloud over footballers when it comes to chasing the bag. You don’t owe anything to a club unless you support them.

100% agree with Simon
Smart move by Jhon Duran I would prefer selling Ollie and keeping Jhon but one of they most go its best for the club.
Jordan dissing someone who wants more money in a free market. The same Jordan who believes in a free market economy and lost £50m
What is Jim White waffling? CR7 has achieved everything in the game - he can go off and do what he wants now! He has nothing else to prove. But even still at 39, playing in the S.A and flying. Still playing international football as the most capped player ever and captain to his country, with potential of international tournaments at age 40+. Now that is a LEGEND. Not only that CR7 has pushed the image of the game in Saudi and will be recognised and remembered for that. The chance to earn the money he is now after the career he's had, to now business moves makes total sense. The argument and comparing it to Duran from JW's perspective for his argument compared to Jordan's argument, leaves White's with no credibility as it's a different argument. Once again SJ making total sense as White talks pure nonsense.
He’s absolutely young enough to come back.
Shocked unai would allow him to leave I thought he would pull out all the stops to keep him,he has been a super sub
Its an easier choice when on the bench so much + he should still get games for the national team like James & Uribe when in the Middle East.
All these players and managers need to do to avoid ridicule is to just openly admit "It's a financial decision" when you hear players like Ronaldo and managers like Gerrard and others say things like "I'm here because its a fantastic league, great potential and this is the best place for me" this is the lie they tell themselves, nothing wrong with admitting it's a financial decision.
