After sharing last year’s video about shifting from a consumer mindset to an investor mindset related to investing in shares of LVMH (the parent company of Louis Vuitton), I’ve received many requests to make more videos related to investing and money management. 💰
So in this new video, I talk about whether or not the Chanel Classic Flap bag is truly a “good investment” when compared to the US stock market, specifically low-cost index funds.

Loved this! It perturbs me every time I hear people call handbags investments because they are not. Wonderful to see others share financial knowledge with those who may not be a as financially literate! Bags and material goods are meant to be enjoyed and spark joy but definitely not investments!

Absolutely love this video! These are my words exactly! I’m a handbag LOVER too! One day I will have a Chanel like this! They are not investments.....just something you enjoy! Haha vanguard complete market fund...VTI....👍🏼. I have my own investment portfolio, my husband has his and we both have ours. Now our mission is to teach our college age kids! Love investing! Ladies there are investment club you can join as beginners. Look up Better Investing. Very nominal fee and you only invest maybe $20 a month....it’s a great place to learn. There are chapters all around the country. Girl power!

Totally agree! We started custodial accounts for our kids when they were in their elementary school. It compounded enough that it paid for their college and grad school! My younger daughter (I have 2 daughters) just graduated from grad school and is headed off to her new job debt free! Vanguard is our fav brokerage. I love luxury items (I don’t go crazy) but my husband is frugal so it helps balance the equation! My advice to young gals....have fun but don’t get into debt!

Great discussion my grandmother bought herself a new car buying and selling costume jewelry, clothes, and bags I was so impressed as a child. Question what do you think about only putting your money in Chanel Hermès and LV because you’ll be able to get some of your money back if you decide to sell agree?
Leslie Craven I believe there are far better investments than handbags, but if you are the type to buy and sell often, then yes, LV, Chanel, Hermes... and nowadays Goyard are the brands that hold their value the best. But as mentioned in this video, I personally believe handbags are meant to be enjoyed; not somewhere to park your money in hopes it’ll grow! There are better ways to invest your money for long term growth. The beauty of compounding interest - not as sexy as a Chanel bag, but definitely a bigger payout in the long run! 😉 Hope that makes sense, thanks for watching!!

I watched this video 2 1/2 times. 🤣🤣🤣 Trying to get all I can from it. 💯 🤣🤣🤣 Wonderful video... I'm a firm believer, Nothing is worth anymore than a person is willing to pay for it and when you have 2 or more wanting it...expect the price to go up. I believe we the consumer controls the price increasing. The higher the demanded = the higher the cost. If this wasn't so with Chanel for instance, why hasn't the QUALITY, Not increase, Maintain at l least? With that said, I agree totally, a Chanel Bag is certainly not an investment!😄

Would you say it's worth it to buy pre loved or buying it new in terms of value?
Also, what do you recommend starting with for an index fund? I had no clue about crypto, but dated a very tech savvy guy in 2012 that gifted me a bitcoin; shortly there after I ended up buying a few bitcoin myself without much thought and it boomed like crazy since (it was pure luck).

You make some great points. Recently there was a you tuber talking about how she sold her stock before it crashed. In 2008 I stayed in and the market recovered and gained tremendously. Stocks are for the long haul. Selling doesn't always make sense when you have to pay taxes on your gains. I'm not a professional but I started investing when I was 18.I was working as a waitress and a college student. I agree with you and money in the market is better then Chanel bags. With that said I have a pretty large collection of Chanel bags but I figured I'd pass them to my daughter and if she wants she can sell them to put a down payment on a home or she can enjoy them. I keep all my bags in pristine condition, so by the time my daughter receives I do believe the increase will be substantial. Great Video💕

Investment is when you buy a property 😅 i think!! What is good for buying chanel (classic) flaps i think is that if you wanna sell it later you wont lose money what you paid for, currently i am making my collection as small as possible i am selling many bags, i dont use, to get classic flap medium at the boutique as my first chanel bag. I ve thought about cheaper chanel option (like woc , Ba, rectangular mini)but i will go with classic piece, if i was in US i could check out preloved page like fashionphile or yoogis but since i am not in Us or canada, its hard.. also! I would love to have a very first boutique experience!

I ask my self what do I really enjoy of high name brands?..Gold and silver is a great investment than any othermaterials things. I own high name brands but I regret buying them. I should just bought more gold. Especially right now that economy is crashing.I see all the consignment store on line that can’t really sale Chanel and trey are so high price.

I have no idea what why people think it’s a good investment. I buy a bag to use. Bag is not a gold or property, how can it be an investment. It should be for personal use. I am not a person who would buy a used bag as it is not hygienic, I never get why people still pay all that money for a used bag. If others like to pay thousands of dollars for an already used item then it’s your choice. Half of excitement is going to store and trying things on.
It’s not an investment, it’s a status symbol.

Comparing to having something "tangible" vs paper .... Chanel is MUCH better investment. Unless you abuse the bag and buy one that's not a classic. Don't EVER trust the INFLATED stock market. I've put money in Chanel this year. Don't let the stock market fool you, even though Index funds have a lower risk. What do you have? Paper. Return in an Index Fund might have a return, but there is risk in any monetary investment. Purchasing a Chanel bag CAN BE an investment. THIS IS THE SAME REASON WHY PEOPLE BUY REALESTATE VS INVESTING IN THE MARKET. THE PROPERTY IS TANGIBLE. MONEY IS NOT.
