Hi Jan. Thank you for this vocabularies. I need to improve my English so I follow you. I'm from Ukraine. My sons and I are refugees. We are in Canada. I need to learn English but all free time I listen to ukranian news. It's terrible.

Edit: A few times in this lesson I made the mistake of putting 'the' in front of Ukraine. Although this is how several news channels have referred to the country, this is incorrect. The name of the country is just 'Ukraine'. 🇺🇦 I apologize for any unintentional harm this error has caused.
Question of the Day: What news have you read or heard connected to war, and what kind of vocabulary words did you encounter?

Hi JeN!I have read a news connected to war through VOA
( Voice of America ) on March 1st.It says,“ In Ukraine,President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accuses Russia of “ terror ” for
shelling the city of Kharkiv as Russian forces push deeper into the
    country.”
I encountered these words and phrases below regarding war so far.
    ① bury the hatchet
    ② deploy
    ③ devastating
    ④ fled(flee)
    ⑤ jeopardize
    ⑥ platoon
    ⑦ reveille
    ⑧ seize
    ⑨ shatter
    ⑩ squad
    ⑪ solidarity
    ⑫ battle
    ⑬ conflict
    ⑭ fight
    ⑮ strife
    ⑯ bloodshed
    ⑰ combat
    ⑱ fire and sword
    ⑲ warfare
    ⑳ war widow
    Today's lesson was very timely.
I was able to know a lot of words about war and the video gave me the opportunity to think about war thoroughly.I hope the terrible war
    between Ukraine and Russia ends
    as soon as possible.
    Have a good one.
    Ikuo from Japan.

Good morning Jen, I have seen almost all the headlines about the war in Ukraine because I’m trying my best to stay updated even if it’s the hardest thing ever because it’s hurting me terribly to see the world is going on and especially between my friends countries because I have a lot of friends from Ukraine and my land of origin which is Russia! It’s so hard but I try to stay updated because I’m worried I might lose distant relatives or friends relatives! Plus my aunt Valentina is unwell! She asked what you think of her! She is really devastated by the war and plus she’s worried about discrimination because as you know she is from Russia and she was worried she may be harassed for that! She even asked if you were ashamed that she’s your student or if you see her at the same girl from before all of this started! She told me in Russian that she planned not to even leave her home because she’s worried if she goes outside she will be harassed and everyone will know she’s Russian because she’s an artist and so she will be harassed and made fun of! I’m trying to help her and she’s feeling slightly better but she’s still feeling terrible and she’s asking me all the time what do you think of her and if you see her the same way as before! It’s so hard but I’m willing to go through this with her until she’s well again and until she’s her cheerful self she wants one and she hasn’t been for 10 days!! I kind of knew that it could happen and that she could go through this! My Russian uncle tries not to feel this way and thankfully he’s almost well but Aunt Valentina is feeling terrible and she’s a very emotional girl in general so sometimes she can even watch the news without crying if he sees stuff like shootings or terrorist attacks so I knew this would break her and I knew something like that was coming and I was ready to help her through this because obviously I’m part of her family! She’s not going to be on her own in this and my family and I will help her until she’s well again!

    • @Masha-nk1xf
      @Masha-nk1xf 2 роки тому

@@mayasinno5868 this is terrible and I’m really sorry about that but Aunt didn’t know because Putin with his propaganda brainwashed his citizens and she was in her country at the time so they made her believe that no civil lands were bombarded and that the war was only against Isis and they’re basically civilians were happy about that so when she found out the truth she was obviously more shocked than she is now because of the war in Ukraine but now she’s saying that another war is going on maybe not as terrible as that one but she’s saying that Putin is not changing his ways and that yet again history is repeating so she’s very shocked but I don’t think we should ever blame the people for the actions of the government because the people do not want war and killing of course but the government sometimes does and when it does and covers it up the people cannot do anything about it

One thing i have noticed from having accessed to information about different countries's people cultures and believes,if we don't pay attention to what one nationality has been in troubles as ignorance, that leader will probably perceive that implementation of against its probably political issue.People in russian itself don't need any war as i have recently been acknownledged. But the head or leader in this case of invasion, pre.Putin seems to have his grudge on other countries past histories. He should not deploy any conflicts or war using any military forces to invade ukrain.Probably pre.Putin has never known there's a song titled 'to russia with love'.Pre.Putin accused of us and nato have put in the militaries at the boaders near russia last two months on the interview requested by us's media.I guess probably he has listened to much from seria, north korea and one more country i'm not to sure which leads him in a little bit aggressive way as the result of ukranian invasion.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend anyone and I certainly don't hate Russians... I just hate war and violence. When watching the news I heard some reporters calling it 'Putin's army' instead of the 'Russian army' because they wanted to convey the fact that many Russians disagree with what's happening. I feel bad for Russian people who are facing hardships due to sanctions and so on when they don't even support attacking Ukraine in the first place.
I agree with you, the world has many terrible things happening all over the globe and it's difficult to comprehend why some humans are so horrible to others. I hope you will stay safe wherever you are in whatever situation you are facing. Take care.
