In this week's video we (Tim and Sam) cruise from Tring to Berkhamsted on the Grand Union Canal. We needed to get some help because there are so many locks.
We are approaching the London canal system. Next week we chug under the M25. Subscribe for videos about life on board our narrowboat Mary L.
Keep chugging :)
How lovely parents visiting and helping with locks. You both have always got a smile. ❤ keep safe, keep cruising.
Every vlog you do is a treat. You are great storytellers and always create the feeling you are doing this just for me. Getting closer to London is going to be very interesting. Hope you have your Canal and River Trust Oyster Card well stocked.
Hi Tim and Sam. Bet it was nice to have help with all those locks. The reward was a lovely cafe and excellent cake. It certainly looked like a nice town to visit. Take care. Nick
First time here, loving it! I’m looking forward to chugging with my sister in August and we can’t wait. After our very fist chugging experience in April, we loved it so much….We can’t wait to do it again in August
Berkhamsted is lovey and the coffee shop The Black Gloo looked most appealing 😎. The bridges were amazing and liked two of the homes along the canal. The first one with the boat house garage and the blue one was nice. Safe week. Cheers
Great vlog as always. I did a lot of courting (god I'm old!) In Berkhamsted. It's changed a lot over the years, now very upper middle class commuter land.
That's on my patch of the WCML railway I look after, we just call it Berko
Those locks are very good exercise. Love the grand Union canal and it’s fantastic views
Always a pleasant journey. Thanks for sharing!
I liked the Berkhamstead diaries. The coffees looked quality👌🏻
Thanks for the video…looked like a wonderful day of cruising…stay safe and take care !!
Love charity shops (thrift stores) as we call them in US. Black Goo Coffee looked delicious !!!!
I can vouch for the quality of Black Goo's coffee 😋
Just found your vlog and I’ve so enjoyed binge watching your story! What a great couple you are. Thankyou for taking me on your journey .👍👍👍👍
Thank you very much for watching our videos Sue 😁👍👍🏾 Keep chugging
As always, I enjoyed cruising with you. Every time I view one of your town/village diaries I locate the place on Google maps and then read more about it. As a mid-western American I need all of the geographical learning I can get. Thanks for introducing me to so many little treasure towns. I'd love to visit one day.
Lovely. I think i like the look for Berkhamsted. I am very impressed by the Florist and Champagne Bar, especially since this have my favorite Moët (talk about Chugging) in the window!!! However, since I can’t see to come up with guitar puns for this pretty town, Tring remains at the top of the list. Well done and thanks guys 👍
I wish you'd said you were heading this way, I'd have come and helped with the locks. There are a lot of them as Tring is the highest point on the Grand Union, I live in Tring, so it wouldn't be a problem. Happy chugging!
How nice to have Tim’s parents interested in helping out. The town looked quite nice. I will add it to my dream list of places to visit. And congratulations Sam for your first lock!!! 🙏😊
Congrats Sam on your first ever lock 👍
And well done Jon & Linda on the locks…they looked tough 💪
That canalside house was super 💙
Tim, I can't believe you rank Berkhamsted below Banbury. Banbury is an utter dump (and I was born there). Berkhamsted is lovely with a fantastic high street. Lovely coffee shops in Berkhamsted v street drinkers in Banbury.
Yes, we agree it's nicer overall but we prefer the South Oxford Canal to that lock-heavy part of the GU and it's a lot cheaper. Thanks for your comment. Keep chugging
yep Fuller's London Pride nice drop of splosh.Bottle or pump NOT can.
Good vlog, and thanks once again for the trip in and about town (from the US).
Love all your videos, thanks 😁
Thank you very much for watching Christine 😁👍👍🏾 Keep chugging
Hi Tim and Sam, beautiful town to cruise through and spend the day with family. Sam I’m glad to see your confidence in steering the boat. 🥰 It’s time to put Tim to work on the locks🤭. Hope you have a great week .
Lovely area ( but too many locks!!)
So good to see you as always❣️ my favorite UA-cam couple ❣️ Glad you’re ok Sam - video quality looked fine to me, not to worry👍🏻💖
Well done guys, great video. I was just catching up on some older videos and saw your friends Gareth and Nicole. Do you know by they aren’t making vlogs any more? Have they still got their boat? Cheers and thanks..🍷🍷
Please don’t be sorry. I love your videos, no matter the quality of camera work. 😝
Haha! Thank you 😁👍👍🏾 Keep chugging
Berkhampstead looks very nice to be fair
Hi Guys. great video, just found your channel. Will be really interested to see how the Slough arm goes. it really is quite awefull. So sad to see how neglected it has become. So weedy and full of plastic bags.
Thank you very much for watching! We've heard lots and bad stuff about the Slough Arm too 😁👍👍🏾 Keep chugging
Seems very cruel making your aged parents do all the work! I certainly earned my cake that day. 🍰
You did!
I love looking at the boats you pass. I wonder what the smallest boat is that anyone lives on?
Good question! People live on boats with the inside space of just a single bed and small sitting area 😁👍👍🏾 Thanks for your comment. Keep chugging
@@chuggingalong I lived on a 19ft Caprice sailing cruiser on my own for two years. But that's nothing. Shane Acton sailed the same boat round the world 0ver several years, and about half of the trip was done with a partner.
Crocs with Socks, 1:58, should never be seen. 😂
😂 don't knock it til you've tried it
Was it possible to buy Birkenstocks in Berkhamsted? Also, with all those florists, were any flowers presented or was romance dead?
Well done Sam, now you can take a rest on those long lock flights,
I have a question for you. If there are some canals with no locks and many with, why do NB cruisers select the ones with locks?
it's just me, i know. but this kind of life would be as if one was stuck on the motorway. it gives me the horrors. i know people that do it, but it reminds me of a certain scene in the film ' Midnight Express'. Please point out where i'm wrong.
I was a bit distressed to hear the word "operation?" I hope you are both hale and hearty. Stay well and be happy. x
Hi Tinkerbell, yes, all is fine 😁👍👍🏾 Thanks for commenting as always. Keep chugging
@@chuggingalong Glad to hear it.
