When I asked a rep about how much wood I'd need to get a D105 going, he pointed me to their documentation which suggested you'd need ~40kg (90lbs) of seasoned hardwood to get the oven to a steady 750F....that seemed like an awful lot of wood and much more than I'd even considered, to the point where it's become a deal breaker (if true). Any comment on the wood volume you've been using for your D105, which is gorgeous by the way!
You can use most woods in the oven, but I've found that dense hardwoods burn best and leave the least ash to clean out afterwards. I'm in Australia, so Redgum Eucalypt is just the best timber for this, but I'll add others bits and pieces that are around. It goes without saying that you need to avoid anything chemically treated or with a natural toxicity.
Definitely! We have roasted (usually the day after a pizza session) meats, casseroles and Tandoori style chicken and mushrooms. Steaks go very well, roasted duck was delicious! We put trays of vegetables in to roast which can be used in many ways also.
Yes, that is a problem. Good quality firewood is very expensive. My best suggestion is to collect timber as you find it. We recently had some severe storms come through the area and hundreds of trees came down. It was a great opportunity to help out the recovery effort by taking the chainsaw out and assist with clearing up some of the damage. I came home with several trailer loads of timber that is now stacked up and drying well. Give it a year or two and it will burn nicely.

Have you cooked any meat or casseroles in the oven yet? Looks like fun.
Definitely!

Not an option if u live in the desert 🏜😂 i’m planning on heating the oven with gas and then turning to wood once the oven is hot enough.
@@re-de yea, well that makes things a bit difficult for sure! Pre heat sounds like a good approach.
The amount of wood is directly related to the oven size. The bigger your oven is the more wood you need.
👍♥️
