I had never heard of a inverted pressure plate or pull-type clutch. I was changing the transmission so I took the lever arm off to transfer it. so I got it apartluckily. bit I had to research this video to convince myself that what I saw was real. Excellent video!!

Right? Lol. I just got into this same situation, like who tf designed this piss poor contraption that wears out the clip that keeps the throw out bearing in place?

Thanks for the great video! Really saved me lots of frustration. Using studs to help line up transmission was an excellent idea! One thing of note, for some reason it took a few tries to get bearing to snap into pressure plate. I gave the engine a half turn and then bearing snapped into place. Not sure if it was because the snap ring clip opening was positioned at twelve o clock but clicked into place when clip opening was at six o clock. Thanks again!!!

    Dear Sir,
Thank you for this video, which details procedures not covered in my Haynes manual, which had no mention of the necessity of removing the activation lever. I had been tugging for quite a while before I gave up and found your video. Upon removing the lever, success was achieved. It also aided my reassembly procedures, which were too scantily covered in the Haynes manual. God Bless You!
    Regards,
    Andy Goetz

My first ever clutch replacement is going to be on my Hyundai Coupe Gen1 (Tiburon over that side of the pond I believe?). I'm glad I saw your video to warn me not to mate the release bearing and clutch together before I put the box on as I can nearly 100% guarantee i'd have wasted £120 on a clutch kit and made that mistake. Thank you very much for clear concise guidance!

Thank you so much! I never knew about pull type clutches. This Hyundai has a rock hard clutch pedal but i can compress the slave cyl rod and move fluid back up then it pumps up rock hard again. I disconnected the arm on the trans and it has free play. Is it a bad clutch assy or faulty hydraulics?

Thank you for a well illustrated video. This makes for a better visual on the clutch process. 2003 elantra gt will get a clutch (on the original at 105k city miles). Now pressure plate or clutch does not bite enough. But 100k+ miles original makes sense right? :) kudos for uploading this video. Now to use the service hoist in my garage for more than brakes.

I had a new clutch kit installed in my car along with a new master cylinder 01 elantra gls. When i got it back the clutch pedal basically had to be pinned to the floor to release the friction between the clutch/pressure plate/flywheel. Do you have any videos on how this is adjusted?

I'm working on a 2003 tiburon. I got flywheel and clutch kit from AutoZone. I'm not sure what side of the disk goes towards the flywheel or vise versa. I tried it both ways and the pressure plate doesn't seem to sit all the way down on the flywheel when tightened down. Is my friction disk too thick ??

Perfectionclutch i just watched this video to get a better understanding on how a pull type clutch works and installed. I notice you said that the clutch release fork is installed with a top and bottom bushing on this particular vehicle you were working on i know you did a separate video flywheel/clutch removal and install on a 2003 tiburon 2.7, did that one use a bottom bushing on it? i know it has a top one i just can't remember if there is one there where the clutch fork sits in the bottom hole. I'm doing a solid flywheel and clutch upgrade on my 2003 Tiburon GT as well. i'm following the step by step procedure that you show on you're video. Great video tutorial thanks it helps a lot!

@@perfectionclutch Gary, Just wandering how much would you charge just on the labor for doing a clutch job on a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon GT 2.7L 6 speed? On that TIburon clutch install video you did was this done in a automotive shop because the whole time i'm listening sounded like a forklift was moving around in the background making think you were in a warehouse or something? When you say nasty in you'r book is it a pain to work on the tiburon? Also a while back i sent you comment in the tiburon clutch video i didn't hear back from you and i wanted to know when you had the car up in the air what was holding the motor up in the car while the subframe and transmission was out? the motor is only supported by one engine mount the other 3 mounts support the transmission side. i also notice when you had the car down before you took the trans out you had some kinda of tool holding the motor on top what is that and where can i buy one like that, maybe thats what was holding the motor up in the air while the subframe and tranny was out? When i did my clutch on my 2003 Hyundai Tiburon i had to pull the whole motor with the transmission out with an engine hoist, theres is no way i could drop the transmission with that subframe in the way. i don't have a car lift and 5ft engine support that most pro auto shops have i relied on floor jacks, jack stands and work mostly on the floor in a cramp 10x20 storage i rent.

I am having a problem with my clutch. I jumped into my car in the morning pushed the clutch pedal to the floor and the pedal felt as if it would if there was air in the hydraulic system. I got out bled the system but no air came out, and did not improve the feel of the pedal. The clutch feels like it engages right when you push the pedal but I only feel resistance for about an inch and then nothing. When I drove the car if I accelerate quickly the clutch slips and the rpm just increases.

I locked the throw-out bearing onto the clutch cover of my 2005 Spectra... I just about lost my mind... however, I did figure out how to remove the bearing without damage.. it requires my old friend...the ice pick, You find the opening where the locking-spring ears come out...pushing each ear in turn fully out, and holding with pressure, then push on one edge of the bearing and it will move back...then bump the bearing and will come out.. be patient and it WILL come out... big save!

@perfectionclutch I have an issue with a new clutch not disengaging all the way. Installed the new disk, flywheel, and pressure plate correctly. Installed the bearing onto the input shaft with fork slipped into place. When I am in gear with the clutch pedal pressed all the way the clutch disk is still partially engaged. I replaced the slave cylinder and bled system. I even worked the Fork with a prybar to eliminate slave cylinder from the equation and it still wont fully disengage and I am moving the arm to its fullest travel point with the pry bar. The bearing must be seated because i can "feel" the resistance from the pressure plate on the arm when i move it with the pry bar. Do I have a improperly machined Pressure plate (clutch mating surface too thick) or too thick of a clutch disk? All parts are new and Clutch kit is SACHS brand.

I also lowered the car so tires are touching the ground in gear with engine running, clutch pedal depressed and the engine is being torqued to the rear like it is trying to move the car forward but it is not fully engaging, just slipping enough to make the engine twist and hold. If it wasn't on the lift im sure it would move the car forward with clutch pedal all the way down.

I removed the transmission again, from what I can see it appears that the Bearing retainer may be tweaked/bent up slightly and the new bearing also appears warped, new clutch disk appears warped, also some wear on clutch fork where it meets the bearing. Going to replace the fork/arm and bearing retainer along with a new pressure plate and clutch disk. I can't run the risk of something being defective. I guess this is what happens when the center portion of the clutch disk explodes (rivets, springs, center section of friction disk completely broke apart) lesson learned, replace EVERYTHING that shows any kind of wear. Still makes me wonder what caused that to happen to the old disk to begin with.....

My clutch very similar to that!
I am using Part Number KF605-02 I purchased from O'Reilly's Auto Parts in Santa Rosa California. It is for a 1989 Mercury Tracer, 1.6L non-turbo. The original clutch that I removed had 6 springs on the clutch the new one has only 4. The original pressure place I removed has many little "fingers" on the diaphragm spring, the new one has less. When comparing the two clutch assemblies side by side they appear to have the same dimensions - Throw out bearing, clutch disc, and pressure plate. But when I mount the pressure plate and torque the bolts to 20 ft. Lbs the CENTER of the Diaphragm Spring gets sucked in totally flat towards the engine away from the throw out bearing, it does not protrude outwards towards the trow out bearing at all! It is not a hydraulic clutch. When I mount the bell to the engine and connect the clutch cable properly I do not have any tension at all on the clutch pedal. It feels exactly like when it is not hooked up at all. It goes straight to the floor with very little resistance and sticks there until I use my hand to pull back it up. I did that 3 separate times wit the same result. When I mount the old pressure plate and tighten it down, the many diaphragm springs do not go flat, they still protrude towards the throw out bearing. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE NEW CLUTCH ASSEMBLY #KF605-02 ?? After the person at O'Reilly's looked online at other part stores and crossed referenced then they said there is actually tow parts numbers for a 1989 Mercury Tracer 1.6L non-turbo. There are a KF605-02 and a KF605-01. He said they sell mostly the KF605-02. Is one a diaphragm type on the other a coil spring type pressure plate? Hopefully I will not have to go with a different brand.

why do you say the bearing is hard to remove from the plate when it locks in? i removed it in 10 seconds with reg. snap ring pliers straight tip.

    • @1998gst4611
      @1998gst4611 5 років тому +1

The throw out bearing has a groove notch on it so once you push it thru the retainer hole on that clutch disc it is locked in there you'll have a tough time trying to yank that bearing out of the disc. Hey more power to ya if you removed it with a pair of straight snap ring pliers but if you listen to what perfectionclutch say in this video last thing you do when you lock that clutch bearing into the clutch disc is when everything is already installed correctly and transmission is already installed.

My wife's 2006 elantra burned through a clutch in 12k miles, when I pulled it apart the throwout bearing was not attached to the pressure plate and there was no resistance pulling the transmission apart from the engine. Looks like this is why, last person to install the clutch did it wrong.

It's not 11-16 Ft/Lbs of torque, instead it should say 11-16 Ft-Lbs. Moment (torque) is calculated by multiplying force perpendicular to the wrench (Lbs) by the radial distance from the axis of rotation (Ft). Therefore, there is no division. Units are the reason we missed the moon the first time.
