    I am one out of thousands of crew involved in this project and the first Mount Dennis Station is my work. I built up the main structure of the station and I can recall every single story behind this project. It was not an easy project but we did it. At this moment I am doing another project, Finch Station West and also it is a very challenging but great project. Be proud of being one of them.

    A lot of people don't realize how hard this project actually is. I understand that Eglinton has been under construction for 10+ years now, but you have to take in the fact that they're building 25 stations all at ONCE. That's like building line 1 or 2 with all stations and trains ready to go at the same time!. It's another year and a half to go and we'll all reap the benefits of this massive project.

      in 1963 the bloor-danforth line started construction and by 1968 it ran from islington to warden. unfortunately there's no doubting that construction speed has slowed to a crawl since those days, even with better drilling technology.

      @@Skyfoogle Back then they cut and cover meaning the cut a massive trench, with the crosstown the did it underground , if not eglinton would be useable

      We have much higher standards today. Aceesibility, longevity, worker safety, higher capacity... of course, this all comes with a higher price and longer timelines.

      @@moses8758 crosstown stations are also cut and cover, but done in halves rather than one giant trench. even still, the stations on the original stretch of the university line were bored (hence the cylindrical shape of the stations) and were still completed remarkably fast

      @@Skyfoogle I agree, I think the contractors due to lack of constant subway construction had to learn how to build complex projects again. For example in just four years, Madrid designed, constructed, and opened 39 new metro stations and laid 35 miles of rail, 23.5 miles of which required new tunneling. The expansion was unprecedented for its low costs. We have taken way to long for this project.

    Why didn't they run the line south of Eglinton at Leslie? WHY??
    Instead of coming up in the mid of the road the tunnel portals could've emerged from the south side at both ends. That entire stretch through to Don Mill's would have remained grade separated eliminating one major intersection at Leslie. There is no business access on the south side along that stretch only parkland.

    • @Nunavuter1
      @Nunavuter1 4 роки тому +6

      Rob Ford caused at least a year's delay because of his insistence that the entire line be underground. The wide-open roadway of Eglinton Avenue East doesn't require such expensive excavation, but Rob Ford had a great dislike of surface rail.
      After wasting everybody's time with unnecessary studies of combining an all-underground Line 5 with the Scarborough extension, nothing came of it. Three other factors have delayed completion. The first would be the various disputes between the contractors and the city. The second would be the discovery of extensive underground water near Yonge and Eglinton that needs to be overcome. Lastly, the pandemic had an effect on construction.
