Theory: Viola Clef

  • In modern music we mostly deal with four clefs: treble clef, bass clef, alto clef, and tenor clef. The clef that viola players use is officially called the alto clef. But we often call it the viola clef because it is so linked to that instrument. And that's what I'm going to do for the rest of this video.

    The name "viola clef" for the alto clef was new to me. Learned something. Musing: since violists use both clefs, I wonder what they think about that.
