Agreed! New DMV standards, due to steering wheels being smaller today than 30 years ago, 3 and 9 is the proper hand placing. That boost mode is meant as an overtake button which should be pre-planned, so this prevents accidental engagement
Yes, I think that boost mode was designed for the thrill of stoplight drags, similar to the 'launch' or 'race' modes found on other high-end cars. It was added 100% for the purpose of fun, 0% purpose of safety.
i own a GV60 performance. Its a great car, and i prefer it over the model y, but it needs some software updates. For example, it cannot do voice comands without Android auto or apple car play, which requires your phone to be pluged in over a USB cable. This causes a number of problems. Navagating by Android maps will not come up in the HUD (because they are not intrinsically linked). this really needs to be fixed. that is my only gripe. The boost mode is great and you can use it when in eco mode too to get instant full power. the review overall was pretty good, just thought i would add a couple of things.
Basically the engineers at Hyundai/Kia/Genesis made a great platform but it's clear the higher ups weren't sure about EVs and just didn't give them enough money to make enough of them. Now with the Egmp success they finally put in the money to expand, but it will take time for the infrastructure to be built. Some of those nonsense modes would be more at home on whatever sedan Kia makes (ev5?)
The harsh ride is generally due to the styling and marketing wanting big wheels to ‘fill the guards’ whilst the engineers and most owners would be happy with smaller wheels and higher profile tyres. I order my EV with the smaller wheel option and have never regretted the decision.
Your review opening sequences have stepped up to an absolutely beautiful level, such awesome videography! I assume that is thanks to (?) Mike, kudos. Love the Tag team reviews!
??? How far can you drive in your gas-powered SUV? This vehicle goes as far as any gas vehicle can and even exceeds some gas-powered SUVs. This is a fantastic vehicle. This model has been compared to the same quality as a high-end Mercedes. Mediocre review. Our fingerprint scanner has worked perfectly. First, you have to understand how to set it up properly. Sorry, that is not this car's fault. Try reading the manual.
Some EXCELLENT quotable moments in this one 🙂 I think my favorites were "Do NOT taunt the ORB!" "...aaaand, Bob. Err, Ian. Yes, Bob is short for Kate." lol! And wow, high praise for the car, you would recommend it over Tesla! But yeah, compliance cars are sooooo 1990, I agree. They need to stop with road apples. Looks like a sweet vehicle, it could sell really well!
Glad I didn’t watch this video before I bought a GV60 - you might have talked me out of it. I don’t worry about the position of the boost button because my Advanced trim model doesn’t have that button at all. It’s still plenty fast. For me it’s a great car and I absolutely love it,
I liked watching the travel mug rock back when Kate hit the boost button. I agree that the IONIQ 5 would probably be my choice, although the Genesis would be tempting 😺
Don’t praise too much the capacity of Hyundai to solve problems over Tesla. I am currently living a manufacturing problem with my Kona EV and after more than 8 weeks and motor and transmission changed, the problem is still there. And they have no idea what to do. A car launched more than 5 years ago!!
Ooo compliance! To be fair Genesis is being made available to the wider world: eg is the only one of the three siblings actually immediately available in Australia at the moment. So perhaps they are limiting their North American shipments to reach other territories - In this time of chip shortages it's time you Americans acknowledged that it's not all about you - get over yourselves and share!
Please please please get your cast together and arrange a multi-part Harmony in a beautiful drawn out chorus and sing "and Ian" for your closing credits, then read through them like normal and right at the spot before you say and Ian cut to the chorus! It would be fun and hilarious:-)
It's a shame the Fingerprint scanner hasn't worked for you. I haven't carried my key since I got home from the dealship. It's one of my favorite features.
The E-GMP cars are at the top of my list to replace my Model 3. What Hyundai/Kia/Genesis need to figure out is a) availability (as you addressed) and b) improved nav with route planning. OK, better use of the under-hood space would be appreciated, but it isn't a deal breaker.
Maybe regional launches protect buyers from dealers who haven't invested in upgrading their facility and personnel to handle EVs? Kind of like Ford is doing with its dealerships, pay up or you can't play.
This is the first time my first thought of a sound has related to that..... whats next. The spring sounding like pixar lamp JUMPING ON THE FREAKIN LETTER!?
Great review. Hate that spot where the model 3 came up on the inside; both sides of the freeway actually. It's deceptively nice and wide and inviting screaming drive me, for the moment. Though not much compares anywhere on I-5 with the bridge at the border a bit further on with the probable exception of Seattle when your going against the reversible lanes. Or have to merge with what is coming out. Almost gave me a headache just thinking about it.
Thanks very much for the analysis! I agree, it's too expensive. I like the styling and comfort as well. Dislike the small range (for pricing), and oversized tires. Your review is the best I've heard on handling, something I suspected but nobody else gave that comparison (against other vehicles). With a super boost performance option being key selling point, the fact that it's not well equipped for handling that power almost indicates the design groups were maybe working in silos rather than as an integrated whole for producing a cohesive vehicle. Still waiting on that reasonably priced e-hatch that will fit my lifestyle though. THANKS Nikki and Kate! 🙂
Cars at this price should be designed to be exceptional in at least one area of performance, luxury, or efficiency. This one seems just ok at all of them.
GV60 starts at $60k. The average new car is now just shy of $50k. This price point isn’t the price point of “exceptional” any more. A “pretty darn good” in a couple places is now enough.
@@AnonymousFreakYT Not for me. I think Aptera stands out in efficiency if it gets built. Canoo’s products in utility. Taycan in performance if I could afford one. I still haven’t seen anything currently that I would trade my M3 for. It’s pretty darn good. 😁
I wouldn't say it's a "compliance car", just that Genesis does not have the same inroads with dealerships that the Hyundai and Kia brands enjoy. It's still a young brand in the US compared to its siblings... not enough dealerships have bought into the brand -- not enough to where every state has dealerships has at least one that bought into the EV sales and service requirements required sadly. It's not even a ZEV state thing -- I live in a ZEV state but this car is unavailable and that is surely because of dealership EV buy in.
As someone who enjoys a comfortable, practical, and premium car like an old merc estate I often feel ignored by the modern premium segment and its Nürburgring obsession, would you say this car offers that over the Ionic 5?
I remember being a teenager and able to get a pair of Levi’s for $25. Those days are long gone. Jeans now go for $100 or more - unless of course you score a used pair at a garage sale or something :)
The handling of this vehicle is sloppy and the audio is average. TE will recommend anything. Wait for the second generation hopefully with a price reduction.
Go-go buttons are get-into-trouble buttons not get-out-of-trouble. Also, keep mentioning 'drift mode' and I'll find another channel for EV news. Out of Spec reviews touted drift mode until one employee crashed a brand new Model S. I don't watch them as much anymore.
@@laloajuria4678 It's the get-out-of-trouble suggestion that irks me. I'm a senior and know of many in my past who were enticed to exercise the much vaunted power characteristics of their automobile. All too often it didn't end well. Maybe a subset of videos could be created under "Track Mode Evolved" where the new EV are actually on a track.
I think the boost mode button position is exactly the right position, as it’s in the best place and avoids accidental pressing.

Do they provide a silk privacy cloth for covering the palantir when not in use? Does the warranty include coverage against possession by Sauron?
Move the boost button to the floor under the accelerator pedal

I'm really looking forward to seeing the ioniq 6 or any more compact car on this platform.
Ionic 6 station wagon for me! How about it, Hyundai?

Wouldn't it be interesting to approach some random person(s) to get the first impression.
Especially the expensive cars to the millionairs there.
the boost mode is not meant for any emergency maneuver or saving scenario....its a gimmick....
.....YOU think!!
The only boost button a car needs is the accelerator pedal “button”. Need more boost? Use your foot to press it harder.
Soooooo you want a button at the top of the steering wheel? Huh?

I’m loving the crystal, the design AND the two-spoke steering wheel!
I don't understand why someone would pay $200 for a pair of jeans, when they can get a perfectly good pair for $20-$30.
