I was on long distance truck driving in the UK. Did my job and devlievered to all the factories that I had to and saw many towns up north of England, but it was lonesome sometimes. Stayed in some dives, once with 30 guys all snoring, never got a wink of sleep. One night I had a room to my own and a TV. Turned it on and watched The Andy Williams Show. Wow, did it cheer me up. I laughed, I cried and I felt part of the human race. Thanks Andy.
They are both American icons and royalty as far as I’m concerned. There will never be the likes of this generation of entertainers and artists in their own individual right again!!! They were both there to entertain your ass’s off with class and dignity and genuine talent without the me me me crap and garbage music of today and just give you your moneys worth!!!! They just made you feel good!!
It was so much fun in my living room when Ella Fitzgerald was singing on any show...but especially wonderful when it was on The Andy Williams Show. My Dad would immediately go into "Scat" mode, which would continue long after...way long after the song was over. Then the "Scat" would morph into audible air saxaphone & trombone. The windows were shaking. The best of times!
Their voices were meant for each other. I wish they'd done an album together. Ella always looked like she was truly enjoying herself when she was with Andy. I have read somewhere that the Andy Williams show was rehearsed heavily and THAT is why everything went so well on it. I think that is why the guests seemed so happy performing on it, with or without Andy. Andy had so many great duets, but the Ella duets are my favorites.
This was true. Andy is a still a nice guy well respected in the industry. When it came to Ella Andy, Dinah, Dean, Sinatra etc loved having her as a guest. I miss the days that she was a regular on TV even in the 70s when i was small. The Boston Pops is what sold me! The first time i saw her was in 1973. Love her style ...love this medley too.
It was a honour to be on Andy Williams Show, it was a place where music from all over the world have been performed, to fill the soul with infinity of sounds! What a lovely performance =) Great job Tatane73, you posted some really qualitative videos to contribute to all of us! Thank you =)
@seajayaway When I read your comment and thought about it for a bit you are defintely right. Singers today don't sing that with joy that they have done in the past. That's one of the reasons why I much prefer yesterday's singers. They were REAL singers who treated singing as an art and not just a money making career. Singing seemed to be a passion for them unlike today. Ella Fitzgerald loved singing and you can see that in every performance that she gave. btw, I love this duet!
ANDY WILLIAMS: VOCÊ É MUITÍSSIMOS LINDO!!!!!!!! É TAMBÉM MUITÍSSIMO TALENTOSO!!!!!!!!!!!! BEIJOS ADRIANA CYRINO DE MELLO RISAU RIBEIRÃO PRETO SÃO PAULO BRASIL SALAM AL RAB
Thanks to people like you, Tatane, there are many great Andy Williams duets here on youtube, one better than the other, but this one defies any comment. From 2:24 on, their exchange, their trading fours, is incredible. Ella takes the lead, her drive is a killer, but Andy stands his ground. Listen to the call and response between the reed and brass sections of great jazz bands like Ellington's, Basie's or Lunceford's and you see the greatness of this duet. The arranger has to be given credit, too. *W O W*
Perhaps some day soon I am going to get to hear another great duet. Hopefully I will travel in the right direction. I know the heavens are blessed with great talent.
This ranks among the very best recordings Ella has ever made. P.S. At 2:30 Andy misses his cue, but he manages to bring it home nonetheless, with the incarnation of jazz and swing really gearing up at his side.
Andy Williams seems to be looking to the left of the picture all the time as if he's reading a prop. Great singer though. There will never be another singer half as great as Queen Ella, it's extinct!
Of course they read props. It was a TV show, why wouldn't they? It was already a memory challenge, and just for a one-off show, which he did each week with new material. Do you think the band musicians were playing by memory?
All of Andy's shows are on the website ... some not complete but you are also forgetting 1970... I've posted what i have and saved but can't on youtube.
I will eventually track down this entire show. I know you don't have it. But I know someone who has the audio of Ella's portions... One day it might pop up on youtube...
Ella Fitzgerald really did not understand how talented she was. Sad to say but on her death bed she spoke about how so many people showed her such love and then she wondered why.
and it'll never be back, as most of the singers of today rely heavily on technology i.e music equivalent of photoshop n are probably hopeless at live singing.
I've always thought Andy Williams was unjustly dismissed as a singer-Sure he had plenty of regrettable "Pop" hits in the late 60's-but when singing a worthy song, nobody had his TONE.

ella, a maior cantora de jazz. ele é um excelente cantor.
This is such a blessing to see. I feel like Andy was under appreciated. He was an awesome singer.
Andy was like an Angel.
His barbershop experience made him an excellent duet partner!

Effortlessly; Graceful; Classy; Poignantly; Captivating; Timeless... First Lady of Song, Ella Fitzgerald.
Wonderful to be able to see this gem of a clip. Brilliant singers.

2 of the best! They complement each other so beautifully!
Perhaps some day soon I am going to get to hear another great duet. Hopefully I will travel in the right direction. I know the heavens are blessed with great talent.
My God, that was fantastic. That was a hard song too...amazing. As usual...
They were so Elegant and polished. Perfect in fact
This ranks among the very best recordings Ella has ever made. P.S. At 2:30 Andy misses his cue, but he manages to bring it home nonetheless, with the incarnation of jazz and swing really gearing up at his side.
Whoa! Just look at and listen to all that talent!
Brilliant. One of my favourite songs sung by two of my favourite singers. Could it get any better?
"Man, woman, or child Ella is the Greastest singer of them all." LOOOOVVVEEEEEEE ELLLLAAAAAAA! YES BABY! WORLD CLASS ACT! AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!
Ella could sing anything with grace and charm grey sky can turn blue with the magic of her voice
"Man, woman, or child Ella is the greatest singer of them all." -Bing Crosby
No truer words have EVER been spoken!
Andy Williams seems to be looking to the left of the picture all the time as if he's reading a prop. Great singer though.

Wow! That is some boss music! MIss it...
This is a delight! I felt happy after watching this. Thank you, Tatane73, for sharing this with everyone.

An era sadly gone by...when stars were stars
what a GREAT voice that woman had , I still remember the commercial she was in where she shatters the wine glass...
This is breathtaking! I love it!
Both Had FUN!
I wish I could find the video of Ella singing Midnight Sun on the Andy Williams show.
miketlow it's on UA-cam now
I would have rather seen Ella's astounding performance of Midnight Sun that occurred right before this.
I think Ella looks gorgeous here! To believe she had low esteem about her looks
Ella no me sorprende!.. (😍)
Pero él⁉️😃... No sabía que era tan !..TAN bueno !..
thanks,amazing!
I will eventually track down this entire show. I know you don't have it. But I know someone who has the audio of Ella's portions... One day it might pop up on youtube...

@namib6969 You hit the nail right on the head. Elle made singers try their best. I guess if you sang with Elle that ment you made it.
MEMOREX!!!
Wow. Just wow.
@Tatane73 Thanks, for the reply! Perhaps thats something we'd like to see... Does anyone have that performance?
I'm sorry, I've got only this video. Good luck !
Does anyone have the performance before Lonesome Road? IF SO PLEASE POST!!!! PLEASE!!! PLEASE!!!!!
Oh, dear ! I don't know. It's part of a "best of".

DO YOU PLEASE HAVE THE SONG ELLA SANG BEFORE SHE AND ANDY SUNG 'Lonesome Road"? PLEASE POST! !
rad0210 it's on UA-cam now
What's the song called? Its so great!
+renzyrenzyrenzy Its called Lonesome Road, but with a new arrangement and added lyrics. The original song is not like this.
Anyone know the name of that sing? Look Down?
anyone else here because of Barbara Cook? ;)
Is Andy reading cue cards?
Maybe, but the performance and its artistic delivery are noteworthy.
@rad0210 I would also love to hear the song before this, i saw it once on the biography channel it was beautifull, anyone help?
@rad0210 its body and soul... just search it on youtube its there...
and it'll never be back, as most of the singers of today rely heavily on technology i.e music equivalent of photoshop n are probably hopeless at live singing.
Wow didn't realize she was that short. He is only 5' 7" and she looks to be at least 5 inches shorter than he.
I've always thought Andy Williams was unjustly dismissed as a singer-Sure he had plenty of regrettable "Pop" hits in the late 60's-but when singing a worthy song, nobody had his TONE.
rad0210 it is Lover Man
@pawhe
I'm sorry, no I haven't.
@rad0210
