45:00 has a special place in my heart. Me and my girlfriend were playing through this game and wanted to find all the shrines. We decided to complete this one for last because she didn't want Kass to dissappear on the tower, I thought it was so cute :')
For the shrine at 42:00 with the super easy problem to enter, I actually solved it by accident the first time : I was exploding the stones to get them to make money, and one just randomly felt on the pedestal, so the shrine appeared and I was like "bro wtf ?"
Dude, when i started the video i was like: I’m never gonna finish this. 3h later, i finished the video in one sitting and it didn’t even feel that long! Great video man!
It's funny, over the past 2-3 weeks, I've been watching bits and pieces of this, going back and remembering each one as you review them.... Still haven't gotten to the end but still going, it's a great trip down memory lane
The ka'o makagh shrine has the most hidden shrine chest in the game, it took me so long to find it, because you just have to magnesis a random wall that look like every other wall, its almost impossible to see it without walking through the shrine with magnesis in hand.
I really enjoyed the tests of strength casually because they were a huge part of my combat journey. I remember throwing myself over and over again at the modest tos near Hateno when I only had like a Knight's sword and hadn't even done any other minor tests besides the one in Kakariko.
Mag No’rah is pushed up slightly for me because it was when I realised that there was shrine music playing outside the mountain, telling me where it was. It felt so magical. After having a hard time finding it, trying to climb in the rain, getting beaten up by the Bokos at the bottom and the entire camp further toward Serenne. And I was so grateful it was a blessing. Still, not more than a 2, even with that. That was a common theme for my early playthroughs, though-that I was so grateful for every blessing shrine, because every fight terrified me and every puzzle seemed impenetrable. Even knowing the solutions, I couldn’t make Link do what I wanted him to do. I’m better now, but not as good as I should be after the hundreds of hours I’ve played. Over time, though, the shrines I enjoy have shifted many times. From blessings to puzzles and now, a selection of the puzzles that feel good plus the major tests of strength. I love most of the shrines you pointed out as great, except the 40 ways to leave your lover shrine, which is too similar to the other, and I always forget which is which and waste time on the one chest with the frostblade. I have terrible memories of the shrine on Satori. Once, I literally had to walk away from the game because I was crying after failing the very first jump onto the swinging platform 20 times in a row. And I’ve died at literally every other spot in that shrine as well. Once I even got hit by the bridge and fell. Awful. Even if it’s easier now, I can’t forget the pain. Even worse, I spent 2 hours failing at the golf shrine, once (the second part) before deciding to learn how to shield clip. That was easier. A surprising thing happened to me yesterday and the day before, though. Eventide. I ended up using the orb by the camp with the moblin to fill the pedestal in the water, then had to get the orb from the Hinox up to that camp. I failed for so long that I had to give up and come back the next day. But it didn’t forget my progress. After failing for another hour or so, I decided to kill myself and reset the island. That didn’t work, either. It still remembered. In the end, I managed using octoballons and stasis but it was not fun at all. These things just make me feel stupid, not smart. Anyway, another great video. I cannot say it was too short, because it was superlong, but I could have watched way more. I hope you do the DLC shrines as well.
5,390 hours!!!! It’s easy to miss just how big that number is, but to achieve that, you’d have to average 2.5 hours per day EVERY SINGLE DAY since release. Impressive, sir. Most impressive! Assorted thoughts I had during this very excellent video: The historical damage from a divine beast is the hole through Hebra Peak, not the Breach of Demise. That’s why the stone is weirdly shiny and un-climbable in that spot. The out of date speedrun strats were very cool. Definitely my favorite part. The blessing shrine where you ride a log: yeah, the log trick is a brand new concept for me…and I’m one of those people who owns the guidebook and watches stuff like this regularly. Just goes to show that the I every on things to learn about this games goes super deep!
Your mentioning dropping in on casual play-throughs makes me wonder whether you’ve seen any of TehCactusPlant’s (sic) “Impractical Shrine Solutions” series. They’re the opposite of speedruns, but use _extreme_ tech, since the point is solving puzzles using _none_ of the intended strats. It gets around the boredom issue of windbomb-to-the-end nicely for viewer enjoyment. He’s incredibly good at working with bears. Also, in the later ones his voiceovers are perfect. Your video for solving one shrine in 5000 ways scratches that itch as well, but you only have one. 😅 Anyway, great vid, as usual. I’m disappointed that special treasure shrines don’t count the treasure toward the rating, though. Like, if you have a puzzle that is themed and the shrine gives you themed armour, that is fantastic to me. I get that just putting a diamond in a shrine is cheating, but Thundera Plateau then giving you a rubber corset? I mean, it’s so drippy! I had a terrible time with it the first few times, but getting that rubber corset felt _amazing_. 😂
I’ve been saving this video in my watch later playlist until I beat all the shrines, and today I finally did! I really like how you rate them both casually and how it is in the speedrun.
I softlocked myself at the goron test of will, i was using chuchu jellies to keep myself from burning and after like 3 minutes i realized something isnt right
42:00 That was a non-puzzle for me: I read the tablet, I tought I needed a sapphire, then I went and broke a luminous ore deposit, a luminous stone "jumped" right onto the pedestal. Puzzle solved itself.
so i just started playing botw this year (beat it a month or two ago) and i definitely played casually as i am not really a gamer and this is like my first big Game--however i find the speed runs soooo interesting and while it may not be something i end up doing, i really enjoy watching them. i really love this video, thank you for sharing!!
What I did on the scoop shrine was I used the metal scoop to place it on the ceiling of the thing you have to place it on event though it was closed, then pressed the button with the scoop to let the ball down and solved the shrine
3:34:51 in my runeless playthrough idk if limcube did it in his speedrun but the way I did it without stasis is I backflipped off of the base of one of the towers and shot both ropes with one arrow and the ball landed on the switch pretty well
I found the shrine in hebra by riding the log casually. I figured it was the ONLY option to safely traverse cold river because I did something similar to get across the cold river on he great plateau
Man, a 4 hour video like this could really benefit from having more than 4 timestamps. I was interested about hearing Limcube's opinion on some certain shrines, but it's not worth sitting here for 4 hours to find out. I tried clicking through carefully to find particular shrines, but with a video this long, one click can easily pass multiple shrines.
I wish I kept better track of my hours played like that. I had too many files at once without timers and lost track around 2000. I'd really like to know.🤣
@@Limcube oh, rumor mill?.... I think there was also one with the bombable rocks and the gliding, and there was another with the crack that you have to find your way around ... There's a number of challenging shrines to locate in hebra, lol
Not gonna lie, at the shrine at 1:26:00, I thought you had to use the ceremonial trident because it didn't work for me with the lightscale because I didn't spear down out of my paraglider. Oops.
@@Limcube hab ich mir gedacht man hört nämlich den deutschen Akzent extrem heraus bei dir. Ist zwar beim zuhören etwas komisch aber trotzdem Geile videos👌
not done with this video, but from what i'm hearing from you, you talk a lot about windbombs ruining otherwise cool starts so why not have a speedrun category where windbombs (and maybe other techniques) aren't allowed, especially for an all-shrines run, that'd be kinda neat

Pppppplppppppppplpp
The fact that every puzzle and boss in the DLC was so much better than the base game gives me hope for TOTK
I didnt even see any shrines in the trailers. They might be going for more of an in-world puzzle method.
What extra development time does to a mfer
@@ryan20028 the green swirls in the new trailer are right where shrines are, I assume that's TotK's version of shrines

Getting 100% of the chests in every dungeon really makes some of them a lot more challenging and memorable!
I’d like to see another video on the DLC shrines.
+1
Dude, when i started the video i was like: I’m never gonna finish this. 3h later, i finished the video in one sitting and it didn’t even feel that long! Great video man!

I’m not sure if it exists, but a no wind bomb category would be really cool. There’s so many interesting strategies that are all replaced by bombs
To me an Ideal Category would be one that only bans Windbomb INSIDE Shrines, as outside they just make the run more fune
@@Limcube that sounds perfect, best of both worlds
Omg yes plz rate the dlc shrines in another vid too
The fact he talked to the Old Man so so many times and wasn't sure whether he pointed you to the Magnesis Shrine or not was so funny

I like the shrine that glows bluey
I see a lot of people that want the dungeons brought back in the sequel. I don’t miss spending an hour looking for a bunch of keys.
I don’t miss key hunting either, but I would like more variety of personality in the “puzzle areas”.
