Also to prevent ingrown toenails, give yourself a mini pedi when you hop out of the shower, get rid of any dead skin or cuticle at the sides, as that gathers it will push your nail into your skin. I learned the hard way of not looking after my feet as well as I look after my hands.
Absolutely. Hands too. Clean the toes, push back cuticle on toes and hands and apply cuticle oil.
Ty!! 🙌🫶 always.
Mani* Pedi.
not mani (hands); mini, like miniature (quick) pedi (pedicure). know you’re right before you correct someone. lol.
@@jurjcluners8490 do what now?
A lot of people here don't get it. When you have a severely ingrown nail cutting the corner of the nail doesn't bring any relief. On the contrary, it just gets worse. I had this, and was horribly inflamed for a long time, oozing puss, eww, etc. The only thing that fixed it was a doctor cutting several millimeters off from the side, and applying a cytotoxin to the root so that it never grows back as wide. Also the doctor said never to cut toenails curved, but always straight. That helps keep it flat and not dig into your skin.
Same thing happened to me, surgery recovery was rough because it was done in July. Now I have a white streak on my nail years after 😅 but no big problems anymore ! I don’t miss it, it went on for months and months of appointments at the doctor + my toe was never recovering , it was always inflamed and the nail was just so wide and grew back into the skin immediately. Just walking was a torture at some point 😮💨
@@TamaraNotTaramaI have ingrown nail very minor but the whole toe is red and I am experiencing minor chills, did you have chills or fever ? Do you think this fever isn't related to the nail?
@@nomoretolerance773 I didn’t get fever from this, I think it might be two different things here for you ! The toe is red because of the inflammation tho, I had this too. You might want to see someone to help with this because it’s going to keep growing into the skin :(
Just had it done on both big toes this morning (for the third time). The worst part is the shot of anesthesia.
Wrong
Physician here. Absolutely do *not* do this. Ever.
Why?
@@r2d2fromstartrek not sterile. Lots of chemicals on dental floss. You could potentially do this with sterile wound packing material.
Exactly
@@Whiskey.Tango.ActualYet we put it in our mouths! 😮
@@katemate2696 our mouths are not sterile environments. But yeah, decent point
Application of Vaseline in the corner of the ingrown toe nail morning and night till it softens the nail and the skin..your pedicurist can then cut the nail back..I did this for several month until my nail grew out the way it is supposed to..cutting the corner nail too short causes an ingrown toe nail..good luck!
This may be helpful to reduce pain right away, but I am confused how this actually treats the issue. Why not cut/file the sharp corner so it's not stabbing into your skin?
BC I’m digging in there and clipping it off!
nail techs arent actually allowed to diagnose/offer treatment for certain health issues or infections, the most we can usually do if refer you to a physician.
if you cut and file it it'll just grow right back into the space because of the tension. the floss underneath helps alleviate tension and creates a barrier between the nail and skin, preventing injury and eventually training the skin back into place.
@@haldouglas4773 it won't. The nails grow straight. They curl because they get dry. Yoi just need to cut as much as possible without hurting yourself and keep the nails sufficiently hydrated.
This is a legit treatment that podiatrists will use. It puts enough space between your skin and nail so that it can grow past the skin, not more into it. Once the nail grows past the skin, you have to do your diligence with regular pedis, and dry off completely after showers, pushing the skin out and away from the nails. It eventually helps your nail flatten out and you’ll have healthy skin too! Watch The Meticulous Manicurist, she’s incredible.
I use a tiny piece of cotton ball. Put antibiotic with lidocaine ointment on it. And shove it under the affected area. Then I trim the cotton down. Every time this piece comes out with a shower or a bath, I do it all over again. It will actually help to change the way the nail grows.
You can use tamponade. They make one that is specially designed for the nail fold. Tamponade stays more flexible and softer than a cotton ball. If you also work with a skin and nail softening ointment, the tamponade can really absorb it and to treat the area more effectively.
Me who just had a surgery type thing for an ingrown toenail on BOTH feet: *Just go to the doctor. Doesn’t matter how severe it is. I waited a year and got too much pain so where I cried when I was even just laying down from pain. Just go to the doctor as soon as you can.*
i have both toe nail ingrown it's been 2yrs. should i need to surgery it instead of using nail cutter?
@@shitsukie6258 yes. absolutely.
@ChaosCouncilWithFriends
I’ve had mine on both big Toes for around 5 months and it’s getting to the point where when I cut them they still kill me around the skin of the toe and can barley walk i don’t know what to do any recommendations?
@@Jason72727 hydrogen peroxide when you cut them, soak your feet in lukewarm water afterwards, put bandages on them and stay off your feet for as long as possible.
And, doctor when you have time
Perhaps an urgent care visit? That’s what I had to do when mine got so bad I could barely walk
im suffering from the same thing. but we dont have any insurance to go to the doctor. i have infected ingrown toenails on both feet and took antibiotics, tried several times to get rid of them, but nothing seems to help. we're trying to get insurance to go to the doctor to get them taken care of
Always make sure to treat and cut your toe nails to prevent this from happening. Letting your toe nails grow too long while wearing uncomfortable shoes and on top of that being on your feet all the time can cause this to happen as well. We tend to forget our toes are there quite often. 😊
I had to get surgery for this. People were saying « just cut it » but it’s actually more complicated. My nail was WIDE AF and was growing in my skin + it was extremely curved. I couldn’t just cut it, I had to go to a pedicure so she could cut it IN my skin with her tools. And it was every 2/3 weeks. Even cut, my skin was badly inflamed and it started again and again and again…
Sometimes you can’t do it yourself, based on the shape of the nail it can be impossible to do it with a damn nail clipper. In my case, it was. Try cutting your nail buried in your skin with this. Every two weeks.
It was so bad that I ended up getting a surgery to burn the root of the nail so it wouldn’t grow back on the sides (so in my skin)
My friend had to do the same
She said acid was used to kill off a corner of it so it wouldn’t return
Burn? What do you mean exactly? What is applied? Will it pain or irritate?
@@MDVoicenotes it’s like a product that just remove the part that shouldn’t grow back ! Someone talked about acid but I don’t know what it was. It’s not supposed to hurt because you have a little anesthesia + some 💉 of local anesthetic in the foot (that part is very uncomfortable I was in mild pain)
The rest is pain free (so when they do the cut + when applying the product)
Yikes, that sounds horrible to have it happen so often :(
Glad you found a fix!
Hi Tamara from another Tamara 😂
I had in ingrown toenail when about a year ago. It got super swollen and had a TON of pus… I didn’t think much of it until it turned purple and got a lot bigger than my other toe. My mom took a needle and tried to pop it but it hurt to the point where I couldn’t even put on shoes except flip flops. A couple days later I was on the couch watching tv and there was like a tiny little black scab and when I couldn’t gently rub it off with my finger I used my pinky nail to pry it off and it exploded. I’m not joking it was like a volcano 😂 it felt great to release all of the pressure that had been there and 2 weeks later I still needed a band-aid but it felt much better and I could run and wear normal shoes!!
And what about that ingrown nail?
🌋🩸🤯
@@Kai_28 Wdym? It’s better now, like nothing ever happened, if that’s what you mean.
@@SophiaR__8722 Yes! It was what I asked. Your experience is very painful. I am glad it is fine now.
I had it too, a month or two ago. My uncle, a doctor, suggested small surgery. But I just took Onion’s layer, using it like a bowl I pour mustard oil and turmeric in it, simmered it on low heat until oil got heated. Then I put it on my ingrowned nail ( oil not too much hot) , wrapped a cloth strip around it, and left it for a few hours. I repeated the procedure twice a day with the gap of few hours. Within few days it was all okay. It saved me from the excruciating pain I would have felt in the case of surgery.
@@Kai_28what do you mean by you took onions layer?
Im not a podiatrist, but I am a professional nail technician that have been working for years. Cutting the corner of the toenail of someone who has an ingrown toenail (when i do pedicures) does not help them in the long term in my view.
I would only cut the corners of their toenail if they say theirs pain coming from the corner of the toe/they ask (i cant say no to the customer because they start complaining most of the time), then i would tell them that they should go to a podiatrist if it keeps hurting.
This is all my opinion and from my experience.
And this video doesn't even say to cut it. Did you watch it?
My problem is that there is no corner to the toenail because its completely hidden behind the forever swollen skin all along the nail. Also, if I was actually able to do this, then what would happen next? What do you just leave the floss in there forever? How would that help?
To reduce swelling I suggest sitting in hot water for around 30 minutes. Replace the floss every few days or so, it should just fall out or disappear from what I’ve seen.
No bud.. you need to see a doctor.
did you end up fixing it
My friends grandma told her to cut a small v into the end of the toenail. It relieved the pressure in the corners and continuing to do it keeps them from coming back. She did it faithfully and after they grew out they never came back. The was back in the 90's. SAHM as you call them nowadays and usually didn't go to get nails done. It wasn't as big a thing to do as it is now.
Es cierto y lime x ensima y se arreglo
Cut a v? How? Lengthwise? Crosswise? I'm genuinely interested
@@FortuneSuzhiIn the middle of the white part at the top of the nail.
@@katemate2696 oh i cut my toe nails real short to keep it clean. No white part there. Thank you kindly for clarifying.
@@FortuneSuzhi You're very welcome! I keep mine cut short too for hygiene reasons and I've never had an ingrown toenail. I also think long toenails look like claws, not very pretty 😄
How does this improve the ingrown toenail?
It prevents the sharp edge of the toenail from piercing the skin
@@Nailcou ohhh gotcha... thanks
@@Nailcou but why not cut it so that it's not stabbing into your skin? The more it grows won't it become worse
How long do I leave it there? I need more details. I'm in pain!
@@shaunaanderson7387 look up videos on how to properly cut it, there's many on UA-cam. This is a very temporary fix.
NO NO NO DONT LISTEN TO HER THIS IS WRONG. THIS can cause a worst infection and more inflammation and pain
I've always done this with a piece of cotton that I spun on the end of an orangewood stick. This is a much better fix, as there won't be little cotton strands getting stuck in the polish!
How long to leave it in?
@@angelbabiesblackbeauty3394 until it grows out! As long as there's no open wound, it's ok to leave it in there indefinitely.
I do this for my clients. It has always relieved the pain and has lasted until I see them again.
Could you please show us demos on how to do toe enhancements on broken corner, toenails can be thin and its hard to maintain them and they take forever to grow back🥺
the reason nothing other than polish is used on toes is because they take a lot more pressure than fingernails do in a day, leaving them more likely to break. so no.
@@haldouglas4773not true. Acrylic and gel can both can be used on toenails. It’s done every day, all day.
@blessedx3338 that’s true but you shouldn’t. acrylics certainly are but should not be used on toenails.
Infected nail equals a need to see a doctor. Any at home first aid should only be used very short term until an appointment can be arranged
I had an ingrown like this as a teen because my nail fully curled at the corner and I trimmed the nail but didn’t know I missed a bit. The doctor showed me to use a little bit of a cotton ball to do this after soaking my foot in warm water with a small amount of bleach (capful in a bucket of water). Soaking makes it easier to get under the nail and the bleach can help with the infection.
I fight for this every month. It's painful. 😢

Cut your nails straight not moon shaped

I had my amazing podiatrist remove the ingrown sides permanently. It didnt hurt with the numbing injection. Best decision i ever made.
How is it now? Have you had any problems.
Another trick is too cut a small triangle out of the middle of your toe nail. It directs your body to grow the toe nail more there and not at the sides. Works wonders.
Tysm, i will have to try this. Had one surgicaly fixed but not the other yet due to insurance issues.
But how the heck do you do that? With what? Wouldn't it be painful?
@@becky2235 with your toe nail clippers, just a tiny triangle. And not too deep, it shouldn't hurt 😊
@@avalonkennedy3200 thanks gave it a go still hurting bad though I'm trying everything but not fun it's mad how you take little things for granted like being able to walk pain free untill it's gone thanks for your help
So you just cut in the middle not the sides?
Wrong! This worsens the condition! Go to a podiatrist to get the side of the nail trimmed to permanently prevent it from growing inwards again
It’s called webbing. I use a tiny, thin piece of cotton ball with triple antibiotic.
I am a dancer with ingrown toe nails and if you have them you can actually get them properly removed so they do not grow back and i got this done it has been amazing
This is a VERY TEMPORARY solution. PLEASE, none of you think you should leave this like this, (even not being "inflamed"), but ESPECIALLY if it's infected!!!
she literally started the video by telling you to go to the doctor. chill.
Thank you for this tip!!!
Uhhh....medical assistant for a podiatrist 🙋🏽♀️ don't do this. Please.
wow great idea ! thank you
Thanks for the tip
This looks like a dumb idea. Don't do this...
It worked! Also first 🥇
listen... atp i dont want nails, hair, teeth, nose, eyes, ears I JUST WSNT NO PAIN DOCTOR
Yes right now on 2nd toe. Hurts like a bleep! Mines way down though. Had a hang nail and pull it
I ended up getting surgery to have my in grown toenails removed on both feet and it was the best decision ever!
Please do not stuff anything in your toenail 😅 that does not sound safe
This is genius!!!! 🤯 thank you for sharing!
What works for one might not work for another
Ouch ouch ouch ouch...
Wow a great tip thanks
Doesn't the piece of floss get embedded over time and create a bigger infection?
Yes
The worst thing to ever happen i swear 😭😭 5 surgeries later for it and i still freaking get them sometimes!!! Ahhhhh but anyway, thank you for this ❤
A good foot doctor can treat better than salon
I always cut my own out. As soon as I even think I’m getting one, I start cutting the corners
I find that the hard skin right a underneath the toenails can cause ingrown toenails. I now ensure I check my tiny feet and toenails daily. A pretty gel manicure 💅 cheers me up and a nice colour is a treat! UK 🇬🇧
Or go to the podiatrist and have them deaden the nerve and stop the growth. Best thing I ever did but please listen to his or her instructions on soaking and keeping it moist and covered. If you cut your ingrown out and have pain shortly after you need this procedure and can not cut your way out of it. When the podiatrist cuts them out till your surgery is scheduled your eyes will water for hours afterwards and it wasn’t much relief to go through that pain anyways. Not even a moments pain since.
DUDE I LEGIT HAVE A INGROWN FINGERNAIL 💀💀💀💀
I felt all those touches
thank you... good job!
I preform my own surgery and cut that crap out! It hurts too much to leave alone
I get a nail drill. And just file down the sharp edges of the toenails! Just round them off, they won't Ingrow again because they're smoothed off and no spurs (ingrown toenail) can grow!
Also trim the skin under the nail. Sometimes that can create sharp edges. UK 🇬🇧
Never round off toenails
This always happens to me but my dad thinks it’s fine and I have to always go to school with my toe hurting
That’s bad u need to go to a doctor, if it gets infected it can even worse
@@JaysWorlddx wish my dad knew that
bro cut the sides a bit so the toe can BREATH😂
I never had an issue like this until I stubbed my toe (hard) and deformed the nail a bit but did not fall off. A few months pass, pain when I walk, ignored it for about 5 months, now the pain was not ignorable and pretty much could not walk on it. I used this method once I knew the problem, and IT HURT LIKE HELL I SAW THE STARS MYYYY GOOOODDDD!! But, if you do it little by little, the area gets kind of used to the pain, and you can just start digging until you find the edge. Then just use the floss and it worked fast!!
Pain yes.
Who else looking at they big toe, like “ you bet not in to no grown nail on me mf” lol 😅
When trimming the toe nails, how much do you trim off the natural nail if you don't have alot of nail 🤔😭 HELP😭
This happens to me but I just cut them off bc it’s not too bad
Does doig this start to correct the issue and move the toenail to grow correctly or this is just something to perforn for relief?
So cool ❤
This is almost exactly what my left big toe looked like a couple days ago before I got my ingrown removed at urgent care. That morning I woke up and tried to remove/fix it once more only for it to get so bad I couldn’t walk, so I went to urgent care. The doctor probably thinks I’m a puss now since I wailed when the burning started. That shit was not fun but I feel sm better now
I actually got one of these seconds after going to a nail salon
You know the feeling when it’s over
Someone did that for me once and it was the most excruciating thing ever
The townel😂😂😂😂
Ohh I have ingrown toenails too but I still have it now but it’s not an infection anymore but it’s a great hack actually!
My ingrown toenail has an infection :(
An easier way that helps for me is (if you have longer toenails) if you cut a ‘V’ shape into the toenail, don’t do it too large tho
From my experience, take small amount of warm water, add crystal salt ( not powder form of salt) in it , immerse the toe finger and take it out immediately like this just do it twice or thrice u will start feeling the difference and we can avoid all these painkilling surgery to some months.
Imma just cut it off 😂 but this seems like a good alternative
Cut, clean it, heal. It's fine
You certainly don't stick anything under and infected toe, clearly see where the infection was starting.
I just take cuticle clippers and clip the side of the nail. It instantly makes it feel better.
But it grows back ingrown
Dooonnntttttt do this!!!
My toenail: oh shoot
I had ingrown toe nail, $50 dollars later, doc removed side of nail and advised me to cut nail straight across and not around.
To prevent ingrown toe nail its better to go for pedicure and manicure every month. Because recently it happen woth me 2 time and both time surgeon remove the partial nail and its more painful
My boyfriend cut my ingrown toe nail with a nail clipper and it haven’t grown back 🤷♀️ it was instant relief
Health provider 😂. This is America, and that is is exactly why I’m on UA-cam
why do this? will it stop the nail from growing?
It prevents the nail from piercing the skin
I think the only time your nails will stop growing is when you’re dead 😅
y'all just get the surgery. Very minor and you'll never have them again.
Doesn't always work the first time, and not everyone has insurance. But if you can get the surgery, it's very minor, yes.
@Emily S 9 out of 10 times...it will work when don't correctly
What surgery?? There's a surgery for ingrown toenail? Please tell me more!
@@hyroprincessTechnically they call it a 'procedure' and it runs $100 - $200 depending on the podiatrist.
@@EmShipp08they use a chemical to make it not come back.
Good, adding bulk to an already inflamed area. All that is going to do is make it hurt more. Go to your doctor or podiatrist. Have them take care of it. You may need antibiotics if it is infected. This one needs that whole side of the nail removed permanently.
I had this problem as a child and it was happening on the other side of my toe. Both toes had to have surgery TWICE, and on the 2nd time, for both they cauterized them to keep it from happening again. Painful.
Wait!... then what do I do???😢
You can also use cotton which I’m doin right now to give it space to grow over the skin and not in it
You can cut a V in the front center area and that will usually work if it's not too bad.
just leave it there??? tf?
It’s not the mail growing into the skin, it’s the skin growing into the nail
They don’t explain why “you’re good to go”. Reason is the nail now can lift out a bit as it grows over that floss.
After the nail is out you need to cut it or not?
I would just file the sharp bit and keep on top of it with creams and oil but everyone is different 😊❤
I use cotton.
I used floss to flip the in grown nail out then I cut the nail. My pain was gone the next morning.
I took care of my own since i was a kid. Turns out, i can cut a nail just as well as paying a doctor to do it.
Mine dose this, but not the pain or infection lol
I went to the doctor for my ingrown toenail and all he did was remove my whole toe nail
Mine did too.
The longest part of the whole process was waiting for the lidocaine to work. Removing the nail took less than 2 minutes.
This is not ingrown, it’s an impacted. There’s a big difference.
Oh when this happens I just clip the nail off oops
My left leg toe is suffering from this
Regularpersonologist here just checking in (😂) and Why wouldn't she just say don't cut the damn thing at an angle always cut the free edge straight across and i know that from my father being a regularpersonologist teaching me as a child😂 seriously tho😳 your welcome for sharing my expertise free of charge! 😂
This is why you have to make sure you're wearing proper footwear and keep your skin and toenails properly manicured. Don't ignore your body!
I have had 3 surgeries, 2 on my right big toe(both sides) and 1 on my left big toe, the one on the left came back for some weird reason (now atm) it hurts but im afraid for another surgery, can an ingrown nail disappear when untreated? I mean its already been cut originaly for 2mm, so its not a nail corner problem
That is what we called here in America, "wife's tale"
