Also to prevent ingrown toenails, give yourself a mini pedi when you hop out of the shower, get rid of any dead skin or cuticle at the sides, as that gathers it will push your nail into your skin. I learned the hard way of not looking after my feet as well as I look after my hands.

A lot of people here don't get it. When you have a severely ingrown nail cutting the corner of the nail doesn't bring any relief. On the contrary, it just gets worse. I had this, and was horribly inflamed for a long time, oozing puss, eww, etc. The only thing that fixed it was a doctor cutting several millimeters off from the side, and applying a cytotoxin to the root so that it never grows back as wide. Also the doctor said never to cut toenails curved, but always straight. That helps keep it flat and not dig into your skin.

Same thing happened to me, surgery recovery was rough because it was done in July. Now I have a white streak on my nail years after 😅 but no big problems anymore ! I don’t miss it, it went on for months and months of appointments at the doctor + my toe was never recovering , it was always inflamed and the nail was just so wide and grew back into the skin immediately. Just walking was a torture at some point 😮‍💨

Application of Vaseline in the corner of the ingrown toe nail morning and night till it softens the nail and the skin..your pedicurist can then cut the nail back..I did this for several month until my nail grew out the way it is supposed to..cutting the corner nail too short causes an ingrown toe nail..good luck!

if you cut and file it it'll just grow right back into the space because of the tension. the floss underneath helps alleviate tension and creates a barrier between the nail and skin, preventing injury and eventually training the skin back into place.

This is a legit treatment that podiatrists will use. It puts enough space between your skin and nail so that it can grow past the skin, not more into it. Once the nail grows past the skin, you have to do your diligence with regular pedis, and dry off completely after showers, pushing the skin out and away from the nails. It eventually helps your nail flatten out and you’ll have healthy skin too! Watch The Meticulous Manicurist, she’s incredible.

I use a tiny piece of cotton ball. Put antibiotic with lidocaine ointment on it. And shove it under the affected area. Then I trim the cotton down. Every time this piece comes out with a shower or a bath, I do it all over again. It will actually help to change the way the nail grows.

    • @nadjak3410

You can use tamponade. They make one that is specially designed for the nail fold. Tamponade stays more flexible and softer than a cotton ball. If you also work with a skin and nail softening ointment, the tamponade can really absorb it and to treat the area more effectively.

Always make sure to treat and cut your toe nails to prevent this from happening. Letting your toe nails grow too long while wearing uncomfortable shoes and on top of that being on your feet all the time can cause this to happen as well. We tend to forget our toes are there quite often. 😊

  • @TamaraNotTarama

I had to get surgery for this. People were saying « just cut it » but it’s actually more complicated. My nail was WIDE AF and was growing in my skin + it was extremely curved. I couldn’t just cut it, I had to go to a pedicure so she could cut it IN my skin with her tools. And it was every 2/3 weeks. Even cut, my skin was badly inflamed and it started again and again and again…
Sometimes you can’t do it yourself, based on the shape of the nail it can be impossible to do it with a damn nail clipper. In my case, it was. Try cutting your nail buried in your skin with this. Every two weeks.
It was so bad that I ended up getting a surgery to burn the root of the nail so it wouldn’t grow back on the sides (so in my skin)

I had in ingrown toenail when about a year ago. It got super swollen and had a TON of pus… I didn’t think much of it until it turned purple and got a lot bigger than my other toe. My mom took a needle and tried to pop it but it hurt to the point where I couldn’t even put on shoes except flip flops. A couple days later I was on the couch watching tv and there was like a tiny little black scab and when I couldn’t gently rub it off with my finger I used my pinky nail to pry it off and it exploded. I’m not joking it was like a volcano 😂 it felt great to release all of the pressure that had been there and 2 weeks later I still needed a band-aid but it felt much better and I could run and wear normal shoes!!

I had it too, a month or two ago. My uncle, a doctor, suggested small surgery. But I just took Onion’s layer, using it like a bowl I pour mustard oil and turmeric in it, simmered it on low heat until oil got heated. Then I put it on my ingrowned nail ( oil not too much hot) , wrapped a cloth strip around it, and left it for a few hours. I repeated the procedure twice a day with the gap of few hours. Im not a podiatrist, but I am a professional nail technician that have been working for years. Cutting the corner of the toenail of someone who has an ingrown toenail (when i do pedicures) does not help them in the long term in my view.
I would only cut the corners of their toenail if they say theirs pain coming from the corner of the toe/they ask (i cant say no to the customer because they start complaining most of the time), then i would tell them that they should go to a podiatrist if it keeps hurting.

Or go to the podiatrist and have them deaden the nerve and stop the growth. Best thing I ever did but please listen to his or her instructions on soaking and keeping it moist and covered. If you cut your ingrown out and have pain shortly after you need this procedure and can not cut your way out of it. When the podiatrist cuts them out till your surgery is scheduled your eyes will water for hours afterwards and it wasn’t much relief to go through that pain anyways. Not even a moments pain since.

I get a nail drill. And just file down the sharp edges of the toenails! Just round them off, they won't Ingrow again because they're smoothed off and no spurs (ingrown toenail) can grow!
Also trim the skin under the nail. Sometimes that can create sharp edges. UK 🇬🇧

I never had an issue like this until I stubbed my toe (hard) and deformed the nail a bit but did not fall off. A few months pass, pain when I walk, ignored it for about 5 months, now the pain was not ignorable and pretty much could not walk on it. I used this method once I knew the problem, and IT HURT LIKE HELL I SAW THE STARS MYYYY GOOOODDDD!! But, if you do it little by little, the area gets kind of used to the pain, and you can just start digging until you find the edge. Then just use the floss and it worked fast!!

This is almost exactly what my left big toe looked like a couple days ago before I got my ingrown removed at urgent care. That morning I woke up and tried to remove/fix it once more only for it to get so bad I couldn’t walk, so I went to urgent care. The doctor probably thinks I’m a puss now since I wailed when the burning started. That shit was not fun but I feel sm better now

From my experience, take small amount of warm water, add crystal salt ( not powder form of salt) in it , immerse the toe finger and take it out immediately like this just do it twice or thrice u will start feeling the difference and we can avoid all these painkilling surgery to some months.

Good, adding bulk to an already inflamed area. All that is going to do is make it hurt more. Go to your doctor or podiatrist. Have them take care of it. You may need antibiotics if it is infected. This one needs that whole side of the nail removed permanently.
