OMG!! This video deserves much more view than this. Someone told me how to free mount yesterday and it's exactly the same concept. But you put it in such away so much more easier to practice. Many thanks!!!
Awesome tutorial. After doing your drills, I hit my first freemount in less than 15 minutes (and I've only been learning to ride for 10 days on a 26" muni). One add-on that really helped me was using a dog's squeeky toy instead of a plate to check for weighting of the "wrong" foot. Instant audio feedback!
You win. UA-cam can go ahead and remove all the other free mounting videos. By now knowing your technique, mounting isn't nearly the challenge it used to be and I can get it right just about every time.
yeah this the new era people will share and awake themselves u cant stop us ! it s all about the contact point and have your mind and your Weight centered big up for this!!!
Hey! I saw this video when I started unicycling. I thought "what a funny boy". Then some time after I subscribed to Unigeezer, a 60 yo professional. And now I occasionally saw this again and realized that funny boy was Terry. Funny)
Hahahaha bout a platform?you rock Terry. You've really inspired me man. I watch your videos to comfort myself and you've really helped me with my technique :)
This is the best video what I've seen so far about mounting on the unicycle. I think mounting is the hardest part of unicycling. I can unicycle around for miles without falling, but mounting is tricky. Great video!!
Terry, I finally got around to practicing this technique yesterday. Today I actually mounted with both feet on the pedals several times. I'm almost there. Once I can faithfully free mount my 20-incher then I can order my 29" uni for commuting.
Love it! I can uni-cycle about 100m now but I have to mount against a wall or post, been practising the free mount and its been really hit and miss trying the peddles at different positions, using different force pushing down on the pedals but i now realise that the few times i got it i was actually pushing off with the back foot. So many thanks for the great video, still more practice needed but im getting to the top a lot easier and more consistently and its really helped.
Terry, you are the king of unicycle videos. However the idea of an egg as a pressure sensor may be off the deep end. I actual practice I'd guess that maybe about half of the riders weight is needed to hold the wheel in place when free mounting. If you look closely at this video at 2:05 (and many other videos) you will see a significant tire defection when the first foot hits the peddle. Of course the type of free mount would change the amount of down pressure needed. For a rolling/running mount more down pressure would be needed to stop the wheel and for a simple static step up mount, less down force would be needed. Good videos in any case!
I'm totally gonna try this with my dad. He rides a 24 (and he ain't bad, he can do some singletrack), but he still struggles to mount - he either can't get on top of the uni or he rocks it back (or falls off the front). Hopefully this will teach him to 'roll' onto the unicycle rather than climb up it.
Okay I'd have to checkout all the videos I've watched but I seem to think they're telling me to push down and bring the other foot up. works when I am stood on a step or block. Tomorrow is my third day with my unicycle so this one's a goer. Wish me luck.
Great idea use the squeaky toy. Terry is the man the myth and the legend that I love him and I hope he lives to be a thousand years old. No that would be gross
This video must go down in history as the greatest of all time !!!

Excellent tutorial. After practicing with a paper plate, I had an immediate improvement free mounting my 36".

It makes sense as that's the way to do a static mount. Adding the plate or egg is a neat way to drive home the point.

As one who has struggled with free mounting, this is the best video I've found so far. Thanks!

Awesome! I'm all over this. Thank you!
Sah-weet! I'm gonna take this to heart next time I try to mount mine!

How much weight u put on the saddle? Seems so hurt to the ball

Очень доходчиво! Спасибо.

Haha :D very well put together. Like the "I'm gonna do the opposite". Shame I don't have a 36er though.
You did an awesome job. I guess my favorite part was when you said eggscelent.
if u use a fatter tire it gives u a better overall platform for balance!
