Those two dots on the front drew my eye straight away and now I can’t stop seeing them. Interrupts the look of it for me but won’t stop me paddling it. Looks like it’ll be great and can’t wait to see on water review. Wonder how it will be as a boat for getting new people onto the water.
@@WadeHarrison ah nice one. Not a big fan of using creekers to introduce people to kayaking so something like this with decent stability but a tail that rewards good edge control early sounds like a winner to me. Thanks Wade. Keep up the good work.
I absolutely believe this is the boat for me! Love it . One of my black screw covers already fell off from cheoah , but other than that it preforms great. Little fatty ripper !
This boat looks so freaking fun to me! I’m absolutely getting this as my entry half slice. I’ve only paddled creekers with one run in the Ripper 2 which was fine but a little bit of a handful for my first time in anything slicey. This looks much more manageable
Almost identical spec to my favorite boat of all time, the M Antix 2.0 (followed closely by the S Ripper 2). We'll see which one performs better though. I love the Scorch bow and the Ozone hull and stern, so this thing might rip! How quickly it tapers behind the hips will be critical. Antix stays very wide, which helps a lot w stability. Ozone tapers quickly, which makes it very tippy if you get over the stern, but also very easy to tailee and rock splat. Firecracker appears to taper less than Ozone, but vs Antix it’s hard to say until they’re side-by-side. I also really like that the sidewalls are angled, not super steep like the Scorch. That’s sim to Antix, and helps boat be forgiving in cross currents. Negatives: The little black rubber caps are ugly, the logo is kind of busy, same old Pyranha outfitting, and I really dislike not having simple S, M, L naming for sizes.
Nice feedback Kevin! Yeah, if you liked the ozone tail this will feel very similar it's like they made a river running Ozone. It falls in that same market as the Antix 2 some will love it, and some will not. I had a blast in it on the Ocoee where's its lower volume stern stalls and splats. It's one these boats for me that I would paddle from time to time but not all the time. I just love the ripper2 way too much maybe it's because I paddle long boats a lot and when going back to shorter boats feel strange now. But just like with the Antix 2 I liked that one but felt short and slow when compared to ripper rewinds ect I have pretty good ability to get the tail down on most any half Slice so not an issue. But could see this being great for someone that struggles with that. I feel it will do well for pyranha.
Honestly, I'd really like to get a hold of one of those RIP-R EVO 2s when they come out. I feel like my Dagger Nova fits the Firecracker niche for me but with twice the slice. And I love my medium Ripper 2 -- that boat is simply bonkers.
Yes because the Cheoah is a lower volume river I like a half Slice out there but there's just a few spots on the entire river a true half slice can go vert but thinking this thing will go about down in a lot more spots!
Haha I got itchy watching all I could from UA-cam. And like a true addict went and ordered it from cks! Most places I went looking have already sold out the pre orders. I ordered the last one for the April shipment that they were getting. I imagine more to come but supply is extremely limited till this summer.
@@WadeHarrison Well my decision was a bit pre mature since there not a lot out but probably this one. Seeing the boat upclose. I’ve always wanted a half slice that had a high rocker like the steeze, OG, scorch. But had a antix length tail. I thought about getting a one off through the soul guy that make specific boats. But when this came out I was like that’s exactly what I’ve always wanted in my head. Plus it surfs like an ozone, I got stoked! The antix never had the new age bow rocker to me and I always wanted to modify the bow in that boat. Plus the firecracker sits on a wider surface than any other pyranah. And I love me the wider boats like the steeze. So I pulled the trigger. It’s close enough to what I always imagined my dream boat as.
Was about ready to pull the trigger on getting an Antix 2.0. Pump the brakes! What do we have here? Looks like I’m going slow play this and get some more information on the Firecracker. Maybe I’ll end up with one of these instead.
Would love to see a similar boat but with less volume in the bow for cartwheeling The rocker profile is good but if they could just loose a bit of volume that would be good. Problem with the current half slices is they got so little rocker the nose feels like a wood plank and gets blown around by waves. I think trying to increase the rocker without adding too much volume kinda like the nose of the Jackson fun 1 would be an interesting design. And it would help surfing steep waves !
Well the soul glide kinda fits in that category you mentioned it’s like it falls between the ozone and firecracker you can almost cartwheel it and the tail splats everything at will. This one is a good mix or down river meets a east splaying tail..
It does look similar to the Antix 2, but appears to be a little stubbier in the front. Looks wider than the Ripper 2. The Antix 2 does not seem to have lost any of its popularity in the half slice category, so it will be interesting to see your on-water comparison.
Yeah the Antix 2 is so good I feel that it will always have a spot somewhere. This feels different down river then the Antix 2 and handles rocks better. The tail on this is very similar to the ozone the way can just drop it anywhere and spin and splat.
Hi Wade - well shoot, now I need to not only demo the Super Nova but add this to my list. I will be demoing a Super Nova this weekend (thank you for your advice on my question on that) but that begs the question, would I have just as much fun in a Firecracker. I am a huge Scorch fan so the Firecracker is intriguing. One question, at 215lbs, it appears that I would over load the 242 and be better off in the 252. What is your opinion, would I just overload the 242 such that the design features are negatively impacted? TIA and please keep theses vids coming, they are super helpful.
Sir. Are you sure about that volume? 83 gallons I believe you said. Surely that can’t be right. Boat looks awesome though. Hopefully I can get my hands on one in the coming weeks
Actually no I’m not? This was before Pyranha released an specs at all and I had some preproduction specs so it might be something like 70-80gl because it’s actually pretty wide from the knees up? I did notice Pyranha left the volume blank on their website.
@@WadeHarrison I gotcha sir. It may be more voluminous than I think. We’ll see whenever they post the stats. Thanks for the walkthrough. Looking forward to the on water
More like added a lot of volume to the bow tweak the bow and stern rocker widening it up and redesigned the hull but other then that the logos and colors are still close
I have just sold my axiom so looking for a new half slice, I had been holding off when I heard about the firecracker because our runs in the UK are generally low volume. I was really surprised to find out it's the same price as the Ripper 2 here in the UK.. I think it is overpriced for what it is and expected it to be priced more inline with the ozone... I'm probably going to go with the ripper or the rewind now..
That’s a lot of volume for that boat if I compare it to something like the antix 2.0. Relatively the same length and width as a medium antix so that’s substantially more volume, I think about 20 gallons more if I’m not mistaken.
@@codychitwood2383 I think you’re right. After I posted the comment I was like wait a minute, there’s no way that can be right 🤔. Although from the side it does appear to have a more of a puffer fish type bow compared to something like the scorch so 🤷♂️
Yeah it’s probably closer to 73gl I had some preproduction specs from Pyranha and when I was editing this I seen they left the volume blank so really they will update that later but it’s actually wider then you think up In the front and the rocker makes the inside have more volume so I’m curious what they say it is?
I seen your post hahah yeah I had this for over a week and tried it on a few things I feel I’m right on the upper range of the 242 and the L I was told spring
Not sure I like those external 'two dot' screws. I'd like to see some advances in Pyranha's outfitting to reduce complexity and get rid of all external screws.
Yeah there is a small foam wall up there so I get why they wanted to hold that in better and after few paddles you actually don’t even notice them anymore
