  • About Mukti - MUKTI, a socio-economic development organization, registered with the Government of India Trust Act 64, has been working for Sundarbans people in the Delta region of North and South 24 Parganas, WB, India since 2003, covering 50,000 households, 30,000 SHG women, 3500 children in almost 54 Gram Panchayats for the uplifting of the grassroots who are in penury, social exclusion and myriad discrimination who are extremely vulnerable to climate hazards e.g. strong storms, cyclic cyclone and dreadful disasters resulting in resource dearth, penury, vulnerability and violence.
    About the project - The comprehensive project involves the strategic plantation of four types of mangrove trees and the cultivation of dragon fruit, coconut trees, and various fruit-bearing trees along the embankment. Additionally, Napier grass is being planted to bolster local resources and sustainability, particularly for cattle fodder. This multifaceted initiative aims to address the issue of distress migration from rural to urban areas by safeguarding livelihoods and the environment. The engagement of Self-Help Group (SHG) members in riverbank protection efforts not only empowers the community but also provides livelihood opportunities for local SHG women, ensuring economic stability. Simultaneously, the project endeavors to raise environmental awareness among the local population, fostering a sense of responsibility toward ecological preservation. Aligned with Sustainable Development Goals 1, 2, 5, 13, and 8, the initiative seeks holistic and sustainable development. The active involvement of women from MCDF in vegetation planting and maintenance further contributes to the project's goals, ultimately creating a sustainable and resilient solution for the safety, livelihoods, and well-being of Sundarbans communities.
    About Video - MUKTI has launched the "Mukti Green Defense in Sundarban" project to protect 24 kilometers of river embankments in the Nagendrapur and Kankandighi GP regions of the Sundarbans through an eco-friendly approach. By planting various species of mangroves and vetiver grass, the project aims to safeguard these embankments from the devastating impacts of future cyclones. This initiative not only fortifies the embankments but also promotes environmental sustainability and resilience in a region frequently affected by natural disasters. Now, the project is being supported by various supporters.
